This is probably the most balanced documentary I’ve seen from US based media. Kudos to PBS for bringing quality journalism to US audiences. It takes two to tango. Both sides need to make compromises to make this trade relationship work. Doing that is in the interest of themselves and the world.

The neocons only go after small and weak countries to change their presidents and steal their resources, like iraq, libya, syria, now venezuela, they couldn't even handle vietnam, another ridiculous endeavor in which 1.3M people, mostly very poor civilians, died for exactly nothing.

To do this you need to start deregulating and having a deeper look in government blockers if you want manufactures back in America. Here is an example of what I mean:
If regulations force manufactures to pay more for production raising said market value product from $4.00 to $16.00 then said regulation probably needs amending because nobody is going to buy $16.00 worth of junk if $4.00 is standard price.
This $16.00 issue also goes into perception of labor pay because people might think the company is making 4x profit when in reality they are really making $0.50 profit per sale because of existing government demanded costs which leaves little growth in paychecks and when Unions decide to rise because of perceived growth and be denied because of reality. They will strike and force a massive loss to the manufacture.
This loss in labor participation combined with rising government enforced costs and shrinking market sales due to high priced products will lead to manufactures leaving or closing down again.
So it at least all starts with government deregulation or restructure of regulations to begin with.

    • @jai6491

Vice Montel it is the personal greed of big business and politicians who sell us out. China requires technology transfer to do business there and that transfer of technology plays a big part in our deficits. They take that technology to build their own products, apply tariffs to our products that’s for sale making our goods expensive there while we take in their goods with very low tariffs and sell it cheaply here.

    • @vicemontey4297
      @vicemontey4297 3 роки тому

@@jai6491 Yes they do and it is a huge issue that our government has allowed to occur, knowingly, by both sides. The only way to have stopped this is to push back with companies that deal with China, but it's already too late for that. IMO We can't do much to China because we, under the last 30 years, built China's economy from our own pockets and they used the money to make more money with other nations. The ship has sailed on stopping China economically if the other powers that be do not agree with stopping them and they don't because China already owns huge ports in those countries and has secured itself politically in the U.N. That's what I talked about having our government start with itself because honestly we can't do much to China anymore since both political parties opened their doors to Chinese offers.

Trump was right about one thing; these free trade deals were never about free trade. They were about free investment. MFN status for China has meant that American corporations can relocate their American plants to China where most of the production will take place and then send the finished goods to America. If we also sold American-made finished goods to China like our politicians led us to believe then it would be free trade. But America mostly sells raw materials to China that will be used to make the finished products imported to the US. It was all done in the name of profit maximization. And in many cases, prices for these goods did not decrease.

There are fundamental differences between the two countries, where China can make economic and political decisions top-down (expanding into tech, upgrading manufacturing, etc.) and the American system is bottom-up, where the everyday people are concerned about jobs, and politicians are elected to fulfill these needs by individuals. The Chinese company bought 2 machines with the promise to buy more in the near future. Cool okay no problem. My father never heard anything back from them for a bit but when he went back for another business trip he decided to go back to that factory and see how they were doing and if they possibly needed more machines. My father walks in and he sees his machine in the back in pieces and he sees they just used it to reverse engineer and make their own.. totally ignoring all of the patents.. My dads company based in the US with US employees lost thousands due to them stealing their design.. They refused to sell the China ever again. He laughs about it now but it really hurt the company back in the day.

As the Chinese believe, “Patience is the ultimate virtue - and the only enduring standard of measure - of whomever purportedly considers himself a stable genius - supposedly even a Godsend.”
Charles Darwin would have intelligently attributed China’s long history in effective civil administration - based on institutional meritocracy - to the versatility of Chinese civilizational statecraft.
Evolutionary predominance is determined by the survivors - through time and tide.
      Not by empty vessels.
If the “free market” owes its success to layers upon layers of “trade secrets”, how do the average consumers make rational *informed decisions?
Average consumers are made cannon fodder of Capitalist predators - in the escalating trade war.
According to the father of liberal economics, consumer interests should rule the free market.
      Adam Smith:
      ON THE DIVISION OF LABOUR…
      1. It is the maxim of every prudent master of a family, never to attempt to make at home what it will cost him more to make than to buy…What is prudence in the conduct of every private family, can scarce be folly in that of a great kingdom.
      …AND TRADE SPECIALISATION
      2. By means of glasses, hotbeds, and hotwalls, very good grapes can be raised in Scotland, and very good wine too can be made of them at about thirty times the expense for which at least equally good can be brought from foreign countries. Would it be a reasonable law to prohibit the importation of all foreign wines, merely to encourage the making of claret and burgundy in Scotland?
      ON COMPETITION…
      3. In general, if any branch of trade, or any division of labour, be advantageous to the public, the freer and more general the competition, it will always be the more so.
      4. Consumption is the sole end and purpose of all production; and the interest of the producer ought to be attended to, only so far as it may be necessary for promoting that of the consumer.
      …AND THE DISTORTION OF TRADE
      5. To widen the market and to narrow the competition, is always the interest of the dealers…
The proposal of any new law or regulation of commerce which comes from this order, ought always to be listened to with great precaution, and ought never to be adopted till after having been long and carefully examined, not only with the most scrupulous, but with the most suspicious attention.
It comes from an order of men, whose interest is never exactly the same with that of the public, who have generally an interest to deceive and even oppress the public, and who accordingly have, upon many occasions, both deceived and oppressed it.

Study after study on governance shows the influence-general citizens have over policy in the US is essentially Zero. That is not democracy. When Saudi Arabia or Israel have a perfect record of getting what they want from the US and citizens have no such influence it is a matter of self-deception to call the US a democracy. The press keeps saying China is a dictatorship but look at the improvement in the quality of life for even the poorest Chinese has taken place in the last 10 years. China has become the biggest consumer market in the world, the largest number of people who travel internationally for leisure, the biggest car market, biggest electronics and appliance market. Basically what I learned is the US model unraveled all by itself. They wanted to have it both ways and were short-term greedy for new markets. Market fundamentalists always need new markets right? Growth beyond anything. The US government was half-run by these exact same CEOs. China expertly exploited this relationship for years, always kowtowing to whatever lectures and accusations came at it, saying "oh yeah you're right, oh big daddy US. Teach us more please". And then the US couldn't keep it's own house in order, the economy tanked in 2008 and the entire US model came crashing down in the years after. China is not biting it's tongue anymore. Well played China, well played.
