    Thanks. Although I have done this job several times ... it was great to have your video because I was able to make a list of the items I needed to buy or pull out of my workshop. I will now place all of these items into a wheelbarrow and get started on replacing an older mailbox that was hit by a farmer's tractor.

    Thank you so much for this video. I got a new mailbox for a wood post just like in the video and had absolutely no clue how to mount it. Worked like a charm. Much appreciated.

    This was very helpful to me as I had to replace my mailbox. Great details. My main issue was finding a piece of wood to fit underneath the mailbox. In the end I had to cut a piece of pine. and cut the width down. I bought apiece treated that was supposed to fit a standard mailbox but did not. Too narrow. I can't believe they do not sell the right size. Also in the end I was able to just use a narrow spade and did not need the post hole digger. I did have to sharpen the new spade. Do you have a show on that? I used a grinder attached to a drill. The quickcrete worked great. I let it sit 30 min and was able to attach mailbox.That stuff sets fast. Oh, the worst part was buying stuff at Home Depot and Lowes. The people were so unhelpful. Your video was great help.

      I believe the USPS has regulations on height regardless of the choice you make. The ones that are sold at store are within regulation as far as type or style.

  • @dannyh8288
    @dannyh8288 4 роки тому +3

    Yeah....try that in NE Ohio. First of all we need 30" to get below frost line. You will need jack hammer like hands to get through the hard soil. Then you have to decide what to do when, about 20" down, you hit a big rock. So you move over a couple of feet, and start again. And then again, and again.....until finally, your Saturday is shot, you made up a few NEW swear words, your wife is ticked that you aren't done yet, and you realize it would have been WAY better to have gone fishing instead.

    how high up does the mailbox need to be from the ground? or does that matter

    • @TheHandymanToolbox
      @TheHandymanToolbox  6 років тому +1

      It depends where the box is located. Is it urban, rural, on off road, or on the highway?
      Please check the USPS mailbox standards. I went to the USPS and spoke directly with the post master and she gave me a parameters. Each PO will give you their standards.

    I can't believe you people put you post in the ground with cement. How about the next time you have to replace it. You are going to have a chunk of concrete to deal with. Put the thing in the ground deep enough and it will stay just fine. Not holding up a house. Geeeeezzzzzzz
