Aristocratic women put up with a lot. A lot I tell you. Lady Anne Glenconner's time with Colin Tennant is enough to chill ones blood. The man took her to a brothel on their wedding night. During the marriage he best her Black and blue, and when she went to her mother, her mother told her to stop being a wimp. He had affairs, so she took took a lover, but he was angry at her for taking a lover. It was just one thing after the other. Pure disrespect.

I haven’t watched the Crown sans some clips however the writing & acting seem top notch along with the dialogue being very clever. Though I don’t think this show is really my cup of tea, as they say, but I’m starting to get intrigued. It’s pulling me in so I might have to binge it.
He was loyal and generous to Margaret, allocated her the plot on Mystique, wherevshecwent on to build her house (which her son then sold from right underneath her). Collin was loyal to Margo, but treated his wife, Lady Anne Glenconner badly. On their honeymoon he took her to a brothel...and that is how their unholy matrimony began and stayed that way till death and beyond. The man piled humiliation after humiliation on that poor woman.
The direction of this scene is SUBLIME! She enters as the true Princess she is, regal, tiara, gown, commanding, taking control of the room all while he is a bloody, drunk mess, stationary on the bed. Immaculately showcasing how so far out of his league she is!
Probably you wouldn't, people say she was very nasty with nearly anyone she considered beneath her. But that from some safe distance, she was just charming and hilarious.
My mother always felt sorry for Margaret and thought she should have been allowed to marry Townsend. Over the years, though, the more she read about the princess, the less regard she had for her. Margaret could be petty, spiteful and rude, even before she met Townsend. When, years later, my mother read that he said he had "dodged a bullet" when the engagement was called off, she said he was right.
3:37 Shawl with her gloves to 3:38 no shawl with her gloves. Anyone else noticed this? The outfit is brilliant though, elegant and glamorous yet soft and everything matches!
Judging by the way the other gentlemen were acting, I’d say Mr Keen is lucky they didn’t just shoot him without bothering with the duel I like that they felt they had to protect Margaret’s honour even though she wasn’t around
It was sad how the talented editing and beautiful composition of the series was completely absent from the last two seasons. BTW: Vanessa Kirby's voice, beauty, and elegance make my heart melt.
I looked into Wallace after this episode. For a guy who was part of the royal circle of friends, there really isn't much to know. Inherited wealth from his father, was considered a dandy by most other guys, was sickly for most of his life, and died young in 1977. Seems like one of those relationships where two single people have the same group of friends and everyone pressures them into dating, which fails because convenience is not a suitable foundation for any relationship.
it was a mix of both. The guy was so accepted as likeable by all the pretty girls of London society that it annoyed the men, who saw this plain faced, flamboyant guy who won not just a princess, but apparently all the pretty girls too.
I don't think they'd show the story he wasn't telling Margaret if he was making the whole thing up. We clearly saw that he didn't "step up to the mark". Also, why would he make up a story about another man fighting for her honor? Granted he probably knew already he was in the doghouse at that point.

She’s mad at him because he slept with another woman while he was engaged to her. That’s what he means by having a ‘fumble’ with the actress at Blenheim. Her friend Colin finds out and challenges him to a duel. He lies about his courage during the duel, but the duel is real.
Also, she knows him well enough to know that he is lying about his courage during the duel. She is also embarrassed that her friends know he’s a cheater and a coward. So she breaks off the engagement.
