Everything you do really translates how much fun you're having and how much you want to share it with others. Can only hope I find somewhere I XIV to feel the same way :D
I don't really know why, but I picture Avy Catte's tragic backstory of her family being killed by a deadly field of grass, and Avy going out to avenge them only to be defeated herself! That's when she began the epic quest to become the strongest warrior of light so that she could defeat the true end boss: Grass!
Go to a RP Venue (some tavern/cafe/whatever), slap on the RP tag and say you "want to take in the atmosphere", which means you are just going to observe for now.
I was thinking about getting into role play for a while but I never could find an easy video to help me. You made it so simple to understand and I appreciate it. Keep up to good work and I look for more fun videos from you! :3
As someone who mostly dabbles casually into RP. Don't fret too much over the backstory. Just keep it simple and related to in game events somewhat. Like my character and their mother being displaced during thr imperial occupation of Gyr Abania. She then found work in Gridania for the grand company. There's loads more details. But it's simple and based on where i started in game and where the miqo'te are based in the game.
Happy you explained it. I sort of knew some of it after being confused by it. In 2020, I just randomly joined Crystal because of xp bonus and accidently entered a new world. Just walking into a friendly nightclub and observing works for some of us who aren't into it. Still I now want to go to Balmung to meet Spiderman.
Ohhhhh, very nice guide to the RP! I really like your suggestion with personality tests. Another method I use is just take inspiration from media or even straight up generators. And yes, simple background is a way to go. When I made my main I kept her story super simple but as I did MSQ I got inspiration and lore knowledge to expand on it. I am not a veteran of FF14 by many means but as someone who RPed for almost 15 years, FF14 community is one of the nicest communities. Many will actually help you with suggestions. You can easily find RP discords, and there will almost always be character help section where people will explain lore to you. Just don't be afraid to ask.
I absolutely adore how your miqote looks, I wish ffxiv looked this good without mods... I know I can use mods but the idea that I don't look the same to others makes me not want to use em tbh.
There's actually a program that's out that solves that! It's called Mare, a plugin that you use in Dalamud Plugins. Mare allows you to share codes with people you know so that you can see each other's mods. It's actually super useful and you can even make linkshell-esque groups so that multiple people can all see each other's mods at once with having to individually getting their codes. It's also super easy to set up :D The drawback obviously is that people who don't have it still won't see your mods, but if you have a group of friends, it's great for that! :D
Great video! Have you thought about one explaining the different terms and acronyms that you would find in the character search info? The whole cute and condensed format is very welcoming for people that are curious or dipping their toes in to the PR scene.
Thank you for making this video!! Honestly it's so hard to get into RPing for me. There's barely any easily available information around for beginners and I'm too afraid to just go into it with no information and not knowing what to do. Subscribed, would love more videos like this!
As someone who has done text based RPs around the web and just starting to dive deep into FF14 (recently beat ARR) I was fascinated by how RP worked in FF14 and pleased to see its basically the same how Ive done it before just with some extra stuff to fill the immersion. while I may not do it in FF14 I will say this is extremely well done and a lot of useful info is here including the unspoken rules of RP which a lot of people do not know about lol I also like how you suggested a personality test for new RP players. A lot of people really don't know where to start and feel they need to make the edgiest char of them all but really you can just be the simple "im excited to start my adventure!" type and everyone will love it lol
It amaze me how the three point you just make at the beginning of the video fit well to the Roleplay community, but in an international way xD Awesome video btw, It was really entertaining and makes me wanna get back on the community :D
Funny rp encounter my friends and I had with the owner of a hotspring venue. Real beautiful place with very relaxing choices in orch rolls. I brought a party of 4 with me and we invited a Lala researcher in with us, she was really cool and she's working on studying a dragon egg she's raising. My character formerly being in league with Ishgard had doubts but since his service was less than voluntary- he atleast wished her luck in her endeavors. Trouble started when the owner decided to join in. See the owner had been afk so when I saw the other patrons simply go to the springs without paying I took it as "I'll just pay for my party + Lala afterward." - owner comes back saying he was busy, well and good enough. He then joined in on our bath which wasn't really an issue in itself, but his choice of clothing was easily an attempt to appear naked. He then stated something along the lines of "putting clothes on animals is a crime" he himself being a Hroth. My character being a Hroth as well agreed to disagree. He'd lurk in the bath looking at each of our characters, the majority party being women. Not to mention He'd changed the music to something along the lines of a boss fight which was a bit unsettling. But after a few minutes he'd leave the bath and just passout on a stage in the middle of the springs. After we all concluded our time spent, my character went to pay for our collective time, the owner insisting payment in 'headpats and scritches' since he has enough Gil. But once again, agree to disagree and I insisted on paying in Gil. He wouldn't have it and I didn't want to just not pay, so I got one of my friends to "pay" him, now my character owes her a favor... Right before leaving I complimented the owner on his venue and service since admittedly it was a very nice place. Soon after a rather scantily clad woman in the opposite bath regarded if my character were "part of the service" she'd gladly come back as well. Now I'm working on a new character, a Thavnair born fighter wanted to see the greater world of combat sports as a martial artist. Gonna need to find some fightclubs and connections. Roleplay is fun I swear!
I just found your channel, and as an RP'er since the good ole' dial-up days, I totally agree. My main has a really bad habit of being rude, abrasive, and sometimes just downright hateful to people who annoy her. But while Nora is fuming and making Roegadyns piss themselves in fear, I'm OOC lettin gthem know my intent, why she's behaving that way, and making sure that I'm not upsetting them as the player. I'm not afraid to fudge in a full-stop if any parameters are causing problems.
Clubs for beginners can be overwhelming, however piece of advice. BArtenders in clubs are a good practice target. Just be prepared to spend a bit of gil. Also, make sure you know what the icons represent. Many clubs do have their websites, so smart idea to scout ahead.
Amazingly fun videos and i am glad to see more light shed into the RP side of FFxiv. That being said i wanted to add a bit to the video if i may. Although Balmung and Mateus are probably the most popular RP servers, it might be hard to deal with timezones if you are not from the NA. To that end i want to mention that Omega (in the Chaos server) is the most popular EU RP server too. Lastly, although public RP is great to run into, for beginners it might be a tad easier to join the RPC (RolePlaying Community) servers on Discord, where there are venue directories, FC listings and character listings. Serves as more of an archive than anything (think argentdawn archives from WoW)
i feel the need to point it out-but each time i check up on balmung quicksands (it’s funny to go and explore what’s going on there) there’s those big green roegadyns there EVERY single time. does anybody know how long they’ve been there?
Ahahah dont ask me but here in EU i started playing 1.5 years ago and i just browsed throught some of my early screenshots (i got about 31 000 screenshots now) only to spot this one pink Hrothgar posing in Limsa lo Limsa and he's still standing there!, i have only seen him move a few times between his posing spot and the marketboard where he does some crafting and then goes right back to his spot, so they are living statues!
For about the past month or so. They're basically just troll trial accounts who just stand there all day to be an awkward presence for both normal RPers and ERPers.
I know for a fact that Cevoh'a in the Lane on Balmung would love to interact with you, your plots, or any new chars getting into FFXIV RP. Look for him! xD
The most cursed thing I have heard of are those people who dress up as 8 foot babies who hang out at The Golden Saucer. I do not play Final Fantasy 14 though I was regular in the UA-cam FF14 community at one point.
I want to role play but i play on controller and everytime someone ends up interacting with me it takes forever to type or remember which emote is what I wish there was an Role Play hot bar guide for controllers and, its also hard to roleplay when I cant afford the emotes on the Mog shop or dont have some thing to grind like high five or something and its so akward to respond with out the same emote :(
I have also met a few that typed with a controller and it was fun to wait for a response for about 2 minutes but you would also appreciate their words more since you knew the struggle and the pain that they had to endure just to give you a response, so dont feel bad about it :D
depending on your console, if it's a ps4 there's an app that allows you to use your phone for typing. PS5 has something else, but I forgot what it was.
Followed your advice and went to the balmung quicksands. It was quite the.... Experience XD. But it was fun to see what was going on there and so many cool glams too. Hope you keep having fun and thanks for the beginner tips

I only hope I don’t creep people out by hanging out at a distance, but I figure if they’re rping in public spaces with lots of people anyway, they probably don’t mind too much. Hopefully 😂
Best RP on a Saturday night. Crystal/Bryn Golden Saucer/Super Cactpot Stage. 7 PM ET - 9 PM ET (Winter) or 8 PM ET - 10 PM ET (Summer). Hundreds gather here to wait for the numbers to drop. The Bryn Cactpot band plays every Saturday and HUGE crowds come to see the band, join the chaos and RP. EVERY SATURDAY
Me, when I first started FF14 RP: "I'm going to make my character an adventurer who's seeing the world!" Me, now: "My character is grumpy, retired, and I'm going to make him a Host at a Lounge because watching him grump through interaction with people is precious."
Everytime i see someone with the RP tag i just think to myself that "oh its one of THOSE people", but now that i think about it, i dont think that i have never even talked to person with a RP tag, since they always roam around with about 3-7 other people and you sometimes find them in odd locations around the world doing poses or somekind of ultra deep RP storyline that you dont want to interrupt by stumbling to the scene
@@TheBadassTonberry yes there are RP events but sometimes you see a bunch of RP people that are gathered outside in the world and you have no idea of what they are doing there, maybe they are filming a music video or maybe its just some part of their roleplay storyline
@@soldierorsomething They are referred to as events as well, or more specifically, FC Events. Usually part of a story, DM‘d by a member of said FC, psrt of the FC member‘s story line. The reason they appear to just be standing around might be because it‘s over Party chat. Or VC. Or both.
I know this will sound weird and I don't want it to sound weird, but you have such a nice accent lmao Also thanks for the explanation, I've lowkey wanted to join RP as I want more to do in ffxiv after farming all mounts and most of the achievements the 6 years I've been playing. But social anxiety has been getting the better of me.
I have found my own little niche of playing a slice of life gay catboy romance with my friend's character (also catboy) and events in the MSQ happen in the background of the roleplay, as mentioned/referenced, but not engaged with all that much, except when the story focuses specifically on the MSQ and what's happening there. I found that taking more obscure characters and putting them into your roleplay (ex. Squadron members) can add a lot of fun scenarios for the stories you're making. Me and my friend have integrated 2 catboy squadron members into our slice of life story and it makes stories so much fun. Yes, the slice of life format still is in effect and sessions are usually one offs or tangentially related to one another, but sometimes we engage in multiple session spanning story lines. Example: Reconnecting with old friends, those two old friends getting into a big argument and you having to help them solve their differences and communicate better, inviting them to a new years fair in the Doman Enclave. These three were full fledged multiple day/weeks sessions and were so much fun to write :3
You want to know what’s really hard? Joining in on RP as a free trial player. It really is awkward as anything. I always make sure to give everyone a heads up that I’m on free trial when I walk into a room. I don’t actually take part in much that goes on, partially due to both myself and my character(feels weird to say it like that since I treat her as a self-insert)being rather anti-social; but I like to let people know so we don’t get the “oh. I can’t trade with you” at some point. I feel like free trial players have the hardest time joining in on anything in FFXIV than anyone else. Tell me if I’m wrong, but I’m pretty sure.
As much as I was into roleplay, before FFXIV, I tried in another 3D world, and I cannot get back into it because waiting on someone to type such long paragraph for 1 hour just to find out they already fell asleep or went playing other games in another window or went our doing errands without informing is too common for me... also stalkers... yeah... stalkers disguised as roleplayers... now I find the RP stuffs hard to trust....
i RP outside of FFXIV pretty often but only among friends. i tend to be rather shy so i would love to get into the world of FF XIV RP but i get nervous about where to start and fear people not liking me OOC or i do something wrong like make some stupid mistake. so i end up staying silent instead. im not sure how or if i can break out of this shell im in
Make an alt and join a server and area you wouldn't normally go to and just try random scenes by yourself. Maybe you'll have fun alone or someone will join in. Either way there's less pressure. I used to hang around the beginner smithing area in Elder Scrolls Online as a very low level vampire.
Hey, I am considering starting playing this game and I really liked the way your character look like. Can you please tell me what skins/clothes your blue shirt character is using so I can use that as a reference?
I got an ad for FF14 before the start of this video. It was the anime short. WHat's funny is that the new character started in Limsa. UA-cam knows what's up?
The tag says nothing to me. If the Devs really wanted to encourage RP, they'd increase the text limit tenfold, and have a textbox similar to the one in FFXI, which is a throwback of the original FF Textbox.
I'm spanish native speaker, i thought the same about practicing english in a RP room in the PF, but the first time i went to a venue... I feel really awkward, don't know why. It was like going to a party you dont know anyone. I speak with no one and left. Now with your video, maybe i'll give a second try
As someone doing some roleplay of one of those "things you haven't even heard", I'm always amazed to see there is more normal RP going on too. I don't know why someone would do that, but hey, I'm not judging. I really shouldn't anyway.
IDK, like, Balmung Quicksand sounds like a place for memes, random stuff and just general craziness. Which is interesting, but not so much for roleplaying purposes. Seems like a place I'd show my friends when I want to mess with them, but only if they don't already know about it. I'm not a FFXIV player yet, but I will visit it once to experience it myself. As for more serious roleplaying, not sure. I'll take a look at it, I guess, but there's so much to do in the game, so don't know if I want to spend time on it. Maybe once I'm done with quite a bit of other content and want to take a break from endgame or something.
I personally haven't done this part of the game however i refuse to negatively judge it because this one run of i think it was aether font we had a rp tugged warrior who solved the last 45% of the bosses health.
Wait, Crystal is the unofficial RP hub? It's just the one I joined when new; now WONDER there's so many people advertising their FC houses as nightclubs. I honestly didn't know, just picked the first thing I saw.
How did you get so much character customization with the makeup? I thought you had to pick one but maybe I'm missing something obvious. For example blush or eye shadow but not both.
I really wanna go into RP and adventure, but men, all my tries ended up with "clubbing RP", or ERP. Why are people so horny in this game... I'll try to apply the advice in your awesome guide ! :D
You talk about the Quicksandsn maybe it's not thesame place over the servers. 😋 On mine, I personnaly avoid Lisma's etheryte (can't TP elsewere sadly). I do some RP with my guild, over time, we have a evolutive headcanon on our own, but sometimes I wish I could do RP elsewhere (not enough to my taste 🤭). But with the search, it's mostly emotional RP involved...
Well I'm one of this person's that i fear to get i ti the RP of FF cose i always know the weird or ERP obsessed person's so... Hehe i really try to do it in pas but now i feel to much cringe cose all these weird experiences and now i just give up
Ironically I roleplay outside of FFXIV but the thought of doing it in game is surprisingly frightening.

@@soldierorsomething They are referred to as events as well, or more specifically, FC Events. Usually part of a story, DM‘d by a member of said FC, psrt of the FC member‘s story line. The reason they appear to just be standing around might be because it‘s over Party chat. Or VC. Or both.
Thank you Avy! This is really useful
oh hey, me and my buddies over in the mateus qs featured. hella.
And here I thought ERP = Extreme Raid Progression
Hahaha i saw at least three friends in the Balmung QS footage.
I've been roleplaying in this game for about 5 years and rping in general since 2012, time to learn what I already know! WOOOOO! :D
FF14 is a rabbit hole you probably don't wanna go down, as someone who went down that rabbit hole I regret it, but I did meet some very nice people
I’ve been thinking about RP for awhile now but I just never know how to approach someone starting out especially being shy/ introverted.
Improv is your best in slot.
This is a lovely guide to be honest.
Ah Yes The Lalafell Classic Step On Me!
Fun and informative!
Walking into Limsa and seeing the Weaboo Police was my biggest wtf moment in 14
Hey, I am considering starting playing this game and I really liked the way your character look like. Can you please tell me what skins/clothes your blue shirt character is using so I can use that as a reference?
When a random youtuber catches you beating up Viera in the quicksands 😅
Something tells me you have dabbled with SL CCS or NCS, very good explaining OOC and IC bc that can be confusing :)
Quick fight ! Wich rp community in FFXIV has the most drama?
The french community ? Or the english one?
Anyone know if there's any rp communities or something at the JP servers?
Can someone show me their carrd links? I wanna learn more
I must now travel to Balmung Quick Sands...
Wait, Crystal is the unofficial RP hub? It's just the one I joined when new; now WONDER there's so many people advertising their FC houses as nightclubs.
I honestly didn't know, just picked the first thing I saw.
TY
How did you get so much character customization with the makeup? I thought you had to pick one but maybe I'm missing something obvious. For example blush or eye shadow but not both.
It's probably mods, that's what I use to get that level of customization :D
How many times she mentioned “role-play” in this video?
I really wanna go into RP and adventure, but men, all my tries ended up with "clubbing RP", or ERP. Why are people so horny in this game... I'll try to apply the advice in your awesome guide ! :D
ERP *can* tie into your RP, even sleeping around, but there should still be a character, and not just sexting.
These videos always make me laugh and agree about Balmung is not the place to begin Role Playing.
why is my servers weeb police everywhere or are they everywhere on each datacenter
Out of context but… really curious about which top is the Viera wearing?
It's Rivera Doublet from the gold saucer!
@@avycatte thank you ;3
It's so funny on Louisox we don't really have people in Quicksand 🤔
It really is a Balmung only thing
Wait, so the people play the game on these roleplay servers or its just pure RP ?
Been playing the game for a week now and i have to say....
it scares me
I'd like nothing more than to enjoy Roleplay in FF XIV, but the Nature of my Character's is limiting and very much not suited for most scenario
Carrd sponsorship. Smh. Already selling out.
The dark side The good side
Touching grass really isnt as great as eveyrone makes it seem
I suck so hard in combat -the only role I can play is the role of the victim
And remember the number one rule of Final Fantasy 14 roleplaying:
Don't.
i love rollenspiel
💙💙💙
Well I'm one of this person's that i fear to get i ti the RP of FF cose i always know the weird or ERP obsessed person's so... Hehe i really try to do it in pas but now i feel to much cringe cose all these weird experiences and now i just give up
I'm the only player that deals with colorism with rp xD I'm black in-game and i play on Dynamis and i travel for role play venues
If you play as a roegadyn, you won't have to deal with any of the bad parts of the roleplay experience. Because no one will roleplay with you.
"EMOTIONAL" Role Play 🤣🤣🤣
hello i am heeeere i am realll i am involveddd
time to touch some grass
Nothing wrong with erp! :(
avoid it to save your sanity.

I'll stick to my toxic legacy server thank you.
if English isn't your main language use that to be a foreigner x)
Me shamelessly giving all my characters accents... xD
@@avycatte we all have our way haha I learned English all by myself so I used that to make my character sound like a foreigner best idea ever haha
mew mew
roleplay as my naughty lover.
"Because touching grass is overrated" -- Yes
cant understand you... speak clearer
Idk my friend and I always have trouble finding good venues because most of them are sex clubs 🥲
