In my first couple races, I spent a lot of time going the wrong direction, but sighting was a real struggle - I nearly came to a complete stop each time and it really made me super tired. So, after that I added sighting as a semi-regular drill to my pool training. Then it became much easier. And in my last race I was comfortably sighting once or twice every 3 to 4 strokes and stayed in line almost the entire race, and most importantly it was no longer a struggle. Practice does make perfect.
I did a time take. Switching to breastroke and using the lift head technique doesn't make differences. I prefer switching to breastroke as u can see land marks clearer.
Hi guys, I recently tried OWS for the 1st time and it made me really dizzy /disoriented, like motion sickness, Any tips /suggestions to stop this? I'm an average pool swimmer.
Peter Steel Since it was your first time, I’d strongly suggest just doing it some more. It takes practice and pool swimming doesn’t translate perfectly to OWS. If possible start w short sessions in calm water
Peter Steel did you swallow any water or get water leaks in your googles? Was it a day where the waves were choppy? Because I know when I first started OWS I would swallow water and it made me feel sick but I know that motion sickness can be caused by motion of the waves so I suggest going on a calm day
