- David and Meagan demonstrate how to cut kangaroo lace from a kangaroo skin. Extremely high quality kangaroo skins and the lace cutter shown are available from the David Morgan company.
We are currently ( June 2021) out of stock of this lace cutter and looking for a carpenter to provide them to us!
David's book "Braiding Fine Leather" is available here

I always wanted to know how the makers cut such long strands if leather from small hides. Very interesting. Great demo. Thanks
Thanks for posting this. I'm looking forward to more leatherwork videos, especially whip making and leather braiding!
absolutely brilliant video! thank you
Muchas gracias... This is absolutely helpful .... Wow!!!
Nicely done, good info.
Nice informative video. Thanks
Parabéns. Muito obrigado por compartilhar conosco seus conhecimentos.
I find it interesting to see the leather dry stretched. Some makers will get it wet first then stretch it.
How do you feel about that?
@@gregsmith6139 Sorry for the late reply. The skins we sell are 'drumstuffed' meaning tumbled with grease when finished, so I don't think they would be good at taking on water. I'll have to look into wet stretching though. I've seen a multi fingered stretching machine at our glovemaker's which pulls a skin from all directions.
Great video! Can I ask how many metres we can cut from one piece kangaroo skin?
How can i make a cutter like this one?
Thank you for the video. Is the cutter still available?
Tawnya Scharber unfortunately we are sold out and lost our supplier, we are looking for a woodworker who can make some more for us.
I'm happy to say we finally have them back in stock!
What oz. weight is the leather you are cutting in the video?
I'm not sure if this is a light, medium or heavy kangaroo skin but if my mm to oz conversion guide is right the 0.7 to 1.1mm thickness range runs 1.75 to 2.75oz
