    Could I recommend another way, if you cut the lace just like you did, or any other way you like. To round the lace either wet like you did or slick with water and saddle soap, next you need a piece of 1cm thick wood or board with a hole drilled through it. You then take one end of your lace and cut it to a point then feed it through the hole in the wood then you just pull the lace through the hole. It usually takes a couple of times through the hole, but it does leave it very round. Hope that helps

      @@samuelsimard1717 in case you are interested, what I have is a piece of plywood with a variety of hole diameters. That way you just use the hole that is the correct size. It also helps to use some sand paper to smooth the edges of the holes if the edges are too sharp it can roughen you leather strips. Hope this helps

      What is the thickness of leather that you use to make your cording?

    • @popscratchie3985
      @popscratchie3985 2 роки тому +2

      @@Gregorio621 it depends what thickness cord you want, I use between 8 and 10 oz you could probably go as low as 5oz but I wouldn’t go thinner as the cord wouldn’t be very strong

    I just inherited a treadle sewing machine that goes back 4 generations in my family and have started to restore it back to perfect working condition. I need a new belt but I don't want to purchase one when I have a few large pieces of leather to use. Thanks for showing me how to make exactly what I'm looking for!

      Mind me asking, what did you need the leather cord for if ur making a belt? I do a lil leather craft myself, but cant think of what youd it need it for, sorry.

    • @Sporophore_Hunter
      @Sporophore_Hunter 3 роки тому +2

      @@Handles-R-Lame no worries, they usually refer to the part I need as a treadle belt. It's just a long leather cord with a staple securing both ends to each other. They're used to power old sewing machines with a pedal you rock back and forth with your feet that is mounted in a cabinet that holds the sewing machine

      @@Handles-R-Lame so far I've got it running with a makeshift belt I stitched up with some thinner leather I had on hand, it stitches nicely and reliably on anything I throw at it. It runs so smooth and quiet, really is a joy of a machine to work with!

      The belt for that sewing machine is like $10 or $15 dollars on amazon. For that price I would just buy the belt instead of all this time to make a belt.

      @@handmadeleather You do not understand the meaning of this method my friend, this technic has not required any special tool as i wrote in the title, as far as i know it is the simplest way to make round lace, if you roll enough, you can create accapteble meters of round lace, the vidoe you send another method to do it but i do not agree it is better;
      because
      1 - you can create only short lace, in the method i shared you can create really long laces using very little amount of leather, becouse i use round leather
      2- also thickness is matter in the method that you sent, thickness dimension has to be more than hole,
      3- and last you waste leather in that method, but maybe it is not so important amount:)
      i used finishing polish at the end, possible to use tokonele as well.
