@David Byrne Who are you, really? What possesses a person to start a fake channel and pretend to be someone else? Are you just empty and sad - a talentless shell - or is your intention to mislead for some nonsense and/ or general animus?
I love how nervous and awkward Byrne seems at first, eyes darting looking to the choir then the choirmaster, hands in pockets. But then the choir fills the room with love for him/the song/the experience and he’s won over and at 3:15 or so he opens his throat and howls with conviction and strength. Very moving to see how each lifts the other, lovely.
So many great things about this. Tears. One of my all time favorite artists singing one of my all time favorite songs by another of my all time favorite artists. (With a nice big Brian Eno connection - another favorite!) Inspiring. Thank you!
Totally sums it up for me. It's such a great idea. I've always enjoyed bands/singers paying tribute to others. At a gig when they launch into a fav song of theirs. Love it.
yes! It seems like many of us here felt the same thing :) For me the fact that this was in NY, in 2018 and so many awesome people where there singing with them, makes it even more powerful.
my favourite moment is when David Byrne watches the choir conductor. I SHOULD KNOW HIS NAME, but don't. But thank you to all of you singers. sUCH a great Bowie tribute (sidebar: Brian Eno co-wrote this song).
"Heroes" is one of these classic songs, you should never mess with. Even Bowies own later performances never matched the original. But this version gave me chills. I have always admired Dawid Byrne, and together with this choir in this very unique interpretation, I heard for the first time a version that I will return to. Amazing. But I still prefer the original Bowie version, no doubt.
Don't get me wrong, I am both a David Bowie and a Talking Heads fan, putting those two together is a recipe for success. However, the CHOIR easily makes this a powerful performance....they compliment Byrne's exceptional rendition of this song to a T.....easily my most favorite Choir Choir Choir song....easily! I'm sure those that were there on the day felt the emotion involved....I can listen to this anytime!
This was just amazing. The message of the song, David Byrne's performance & the fact that I'm STILL not over losing David Bowie was enough to bring a tear to my eye.
Another excellent version of Bowie's classic ' Heroes ' .. Incorporating the audience to do background vocals. is awesome.. Talk about audience participation.. Just amazing.. !!!
This was a powerful but fantastic punch in the gut. (In a good way). Takes your breath away with the sheer powerful beauty of one legend singing another in a legendary song. Tears.
so important...in these troubled/fertile times. I listen over and over. The editors of this tape are 'heroes' of their craft - such a smooth soundtrack - with eyeglasses hoping on and off the front of David's shirt. Peace all...
I try to come back to this at least once a month, and it ALWAYS stirs a powerfully beautiful emotion and I have to watch it more than once to keep feeling the feels.
My limited experience singing in a group like this was incredibly joyful and powerful 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤❤❤ A favorite song best by Bowie but beautiful by David Byrne and the choir 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Spine tingling. That choir was beautiful in providing the perfect atmosphere and backing to mr byrnes amazing vocals . Quite superb and Thankyou all!!!
What a treat. Singing a David Bowie song with David Byrne and captured on tape so everyone in this room can show their children and grandchildren. Loved it...
❤💞🎼 Wonderful David Byrne, his voice is unique, a tone of unmistakable voice, all his own: always innovative .... timeless, in the time of this moment, his, unique, particular and universal💞❤🎼
I was brought here right after watching a video of Choir! leading an audience in Montreal (where I am) through Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah. It's wonderful too.
I noticed how 96 people gave this a thumbs down. How??? It was a beautiful tribute by David Byrne for the late, great David Bowie. How can this possibly be disliked? I love it!
It's a lovely song and I wish I'd been in the crowd to sing along. But at a certain level we all know this is his and his alone. Always will be. Can never hear or sing this without feeling his presence and never never will.
I can't believe that it wasn't until only about a month ago.....that I FINALLY got around to seeing 'Stop Making Sense'. I had always heard that it was considered to be one of the greatest 'live concert' films ever produced.
Shame you had to wait over 30 years. In an amazing series of coincidences, I happened to be visiting NYC the freezing February it was released. It was probably the most moving, soulful and amazing cinematic musical event I've seen, especially being a Talking Heads and Eno fan. This heroes performance channels the original Bowie performance I love and is better than many of Bowie's live versions.
I normally don't like covers of this song because I love the original so much but I also thought this was great and David Byrne was the man to front it, well done all
Was and am still a big Talking Heads fan and ofc David Byrne, was gutted when they fell apart but still love hearing David sing, such a distinctive voice and always thinks of Psycho Killer everytime I hear him speak
I lost my voice for a long 3 months this year (late February through late May) - bad cold late February followed by probably exacerbation of GERD - & it was hard for me to listen to choral music. But my voice is back now. What a phenomenal experience to sing that song with David Byrne! I don't know when we will be able to gather & sing that way again - if ever - but I long for that kind of unique togetherness. Well done!!
Ok I’m English but that’s no excuse. I only became aware of Choir Choir Choir abt 4 mths ago having come across their epic version of Hallelujah. Have been a fan since. This haunting version of Heroes is awesome, David Byrne’s voice reaches my inner soul n C C C in that beautiful setting go right through me. Am sure Bowie is looking down on you all x
David Byrne, whom I have loved ever since I was 11 years old, performing one of the best songs from one of my other all time heros, together with so many awesome people... Goosebumps do not really describe it. It filled me with love and optimism. Thank you! from Berlin
Tears and chills. David B. seems so beautifully determined to do David B. proud. He did. He did.
@David Byrne Who are you, really? What possesses a person to start a fake channel and pretend to be someone else?
Are you just empty and sad - a talentless shell - or is your intention to mislead for some nonsense and/ or general animus?
Me too 😢
One genius sings another.
Tears in my throat
Dan Gilboa me too
With ya
There is no one else that I would prefer to cover Bowie. All respect to David Byrne
Bowie byrne...same as it ever was...epic
Just speechless. Fucking speechless.
All those people... thinking about nothing but this song. Beautiful.
I've never seen David look more relaxed than he does in front of this crowd.
I love how nervous and awkward Byrne seems at first, eyes darting looking to the choir then the choirmaster, hands in pockets. But then the choir fills the room with love for him/the song/the experience and he’s won over and at 3:15 or so he opens his throat and howls with conviction and strength. I noticed that as well. Truly a special moment in a very special video.
Perhaps you should watch this video?

Part of that also has to do with the fact that he has Asperger's which he revealed recently.
Right? Its like he’s surprised it’s actually working and at how beautiful it sounds. “Holy shit this sounds amazing”
He’s alway looked like that when he sings. kind of pulls you in and makes you hang on to every word with him
Who is watching, getting chills and tearing up in 2021? This guy, for one.
2023
Watched it in 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024! 😊
2024, most grateful.
And in 2024…..
December 2024.. 😢
Imagine if the 2 David’s had sung this together. Both total legends and both smashed this
David Byrne fans knew this was brilliant before anyone even started singing.
Yes!
Yes
Yep.
Yuppers!
This performance makes me feel glad just to be alive!
So many great things about this. Tears. One of my all time favorite artists singing one of my all time favorite songs by another of my all time favorite artists. (With a nice big Brian Eno connection - another favorite!) Inspiring. Thank you!

Although it is sad they missed out half the song.
the two greatest musicians in the modern era are named David B.
Dear God! That was Beautiful!
I'm crying...
Me too, 2024 August.
So relevant in this chaos of 2023. Peace brothers and sisters.✌️
ditto in 2024
An Academy Award winner singing along with ordinary people...such a beautiful example...brilliant guy...
my favourite moment is when David Byrne watches the choir conductor. I SHOULD KNOW HIS NAME, but don't. But thank you to all of you singers. sUCH a great Bowie tribute (sidebar: Brian Eno co-wrote this song).
Excellent, thanks Neal.
cant stop coming back here every few weeks. really a masterpiece.
The choir is great!
The choir is Awesome but to me Mr talking heads from Glasgow ,Bonny Scotland fills me with 😍🏴🏴🏴
Gosh! A perfect reinterpretation and tribute. Byrne singing Bowie turns out to be beyond moving. Thank you all!!!
"Heroes" is one of these classic songs, you should never mess with. Even Bowies own later performances never matched the original. But this version gave me chills. I have always admired Dawid Byrne, and together with this choir in this very unique interpretation, I heard for the first time a version that I will return to. Amazing. Same as that. 😊
I'm going to listen to Bowie's original to flush this out of my head forever.
Don't get me wrong, I am both a David Bowie and a Talking Heads fan, putting those two together is a recipe for success. With ya Jimmy
The desperation in his voice! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Wow, just discovering this. It's beautiful. Crazy my 2 favorites artist of all time are both David B's - so glad I found this, that was awesome
David Bowie gave my teenaged self the courage to be an artsy weirdo and I'll always be grateful for that.
he would be very honoured to hear that I am certain.
David does David! Amazing performance.
Hey, how about David and David doing David doing David! ahh symmetry. And yes an amazing performance.
Tears.
Only David Byrne could arrange this, he's so good at it. Bravo
Stephin Merritt (The Magnetic Fields, Future Bible Heroes, Gothic Archies et.) did a v. nice cover girl.
Just found this and am gobsmaked. Adore David Byrne and this is my favorite Bowie song. This is exceptional.
David Byrne and Bowie together? I'm in heaven... just like in heaven! thank choir, choir, choir!
Wow. I cant stop listening to this. David Byrne was born to sing this
so important...in these troubled/fertile times. I listen over and over. The editors of this tape are 'heroes' of their craft - such a smooth soundtrack - with eyeglasses hoping on and off the front of David's shirt. Peace all...
Wow, this made the tears stream down my face! So relevant and perfect example of how and why we need music and art in school and at home!
I try to come back to this at least once a month, and it ALWAYS stirs a powerfully beautiful emotion and I have to watch it more than once to keep feeling the feels.
Every single one in this choir is beautiful.
David Bowie, David Byrne, Choir Choir Choir, just way way WAY too much awesomeness to pack into 5 minutes! Fantastic rendition of a timeless classic!
This song always, and I mean always makes me cry. Especially in these times of such despair. And yet, it gives me hope.

What a song! What a wonderful people. What a wonderful interpretation. Love from all around the world.
It takes a good singer to pull this song off and he did.
The more perfect the voice, the less believable what they are saying. David Byrne
David has aged like the rest of us but his voice is still WONDERFUL. Real nice to listen to this.Keep it up Choir Choir Choir.
well yeah..of course I cried. its a beautiful rendition. also..I've been drinking tonite, and this song always reminds of someone I miss.

Great & Just Beautiful Thanks
I was brought here right after watching a video of Choir! leading an audience in Montreal (where I am) through Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah. It's wonderful too.
They got to be heroes.
I noticed how 96 people gave this a thumbs down. How??? It was a beautiful tribute by David Byrne for the late, great David Bowie. How can this possibly be disliked? I love it!
There's always a troll somewhere. I REALLY liked it myself.
Amazing! David is a living legend is a smaller and smaller crowd 🎉
There are so many beautiful angles to this video, David Byrne, the Choir and Bowie, WOW epic!!!!!
David Byrne even has a Bowie haircut. Outstanding.
Wonderful. Thank you for this. This needs to be our theme song as we move forward in these challenging times. Miss you Starman.
Keep coming back to this video again and again, so uplifting and inspiring. Especially in light of 2020. 💙❤️💜. Good thing inspiration is timeless.
One DB to another DB with a fantastic choir thrown in just to make it even more special.
Just made my day ❤️
wow I love David Bowie and David Byrne this is so great!!
Amazing David byrne
My first Choir! Choir! Choir! performance to witness. Soooo much power in all those voices and in the attitude that they come together. Thank you.
A fantastic version from a musical genius. Singing a song by another musical genius. Bowie is smiling.
David Byrne still has an excellent voice, 'cause it can't be easy to keep up with such big choir! =)
It's a lovely song and I wish I'd been in the crowd to sing along. But at a certain level we all know this is his and his alone. Always will be. Can never hear or sing this without feeling his presence and never never will.
This fills me with spirit and could soften even the hardest of us.
This put tears in my eyes... so beautifully done!! Thank you to all you great voices out there!
My goodness ❤😂 truly beautiful.
I will never get sick of this. Always a link away when needed.
Glorious performance by all
just WOW............................. thank you
Think David Bowie would have loved this, perfect voice and performance
Universal song for every win, birthday etc.
Wow, chills! Kinda haunting & a little sad, but beautiful all at once. Probably my favorite David Bowie song & this is just a great cover.
This is so beautiful. And the Public Theater is a sacred space, even more magical after this incredible moment. Thank you.
I can't believe that it wasn't until only about a month ago.....that I FINALLY got around to seeing 'Stop Making Sense'. I had always heard that it was considered to be one of the greatest 'live concert' films ever produced.
Yup. Directed by Jonathan "The Silence of the Lambs" Demme, nonetheless.
The film actually used footage from three successive shows. Still an amazeballs movie.
People danced on the stage at the local movie theater when Stop Making Sense played.
I am of the belief that concert movie finds you when you need it most.
Wow that was amazing, the build up was fantastic. very 'uplifting' and David was as brilliant as he always is
Love love love this! David Byrne does a great job. Choir sounds great too! Wish I was there
@David Byrne honored you replied. Big fan.
I keep coming back to hear this when I just need its solace and joy. It really is quite brilliant.
This gave me chills. ❤❤❤
I normally don't like covers of this song because I love the original so much but I also thought this was great and David Byrne was the man to front it, well done all

Just Beautiful . . .
Was and am still a big Talking Heads fan and ofc David Byrne, was gutted when they fell apart but still love hearing David sing, such a distinctive voice and always thinks of Psycho Killer everytime I hear him speak
God what a voice. David is such a wonderful talent. Thanks for this great post.

Catness, Reach out to friends who may know someone who could take on that role.
