I love Lao slow life. I'm very tired of big cities and fast life. I will definitely retire in Laos. But I will have to fly back and forth between the USA and LAOS. Maybe every 4-6 months or twice a year.

Sabaidee sister. My parents have already move back to Laos when they retire in 2018. They love it. They don't have to worry about crime like in the USA.

@@LaoSoftware Thank you, dear. I also have some relatives move back to Laos since 2018. They are from Europe (France). They built their own house with 3 bedrooms and 3 baths in Vientiane, and they love it as well. Laos is very peaceful and quiet. Their children and grandkids visit them almost every year.

Good analysis. yes Laos has not been dealt with the good cards but I believe there are more positives than negatives. as far as history goes this is probably the first time Laos has seen a united country since the last maybe 150 years. We have to remember even before the french came, the country was broken (even fighting one another ) into 3-4 different kingdoms, then was annexed by siam, looted by the haw bandits from china, became a french colony and then the civil war/vietnam war occurred. this all happened consecutively with no breaks so it is even a miracle Lao is still standing. Laos is literally rebuilding from ashes reclaiming our identity/culture and history and now the future. I think that these are some reasons why Laos is off to a slow start and as you mentioned geography is huge issue but i think the future is looking much much better than the past 100 years. thanks!

Just give Laos some time to develop. It takes patience. The roads are primitive.

Looking at the big picture.. 5 to 10 yrs. LAOS will be more touristy...As LAOS develope people will move in.. Don't forget LAOS and Vietnam train is also underway...And LAOS now started growing rice and export to US.

Good point on the Lao Vietnam train. Once that is completed, it should open up more trade just as the current train is doing. Thanks for sharing!

Laos is landlocked. They have to be very good to overcome this obstacle.
How Laos find money to build infrastructure?
Selling electricity from dams to neighbor countries seem limit. China control the amount of water to reach the dams.
    Tourism without beachs is hard.
    Just my honest opinion.

Once you get used to not being as developed as the neighbours and you slow your mind down to match the tempo of the country......that's when Laos becomes BETTER than our surrounding brethren 😄

There's too much Chinese investment in real estate. That whole Beung That Luang complex will FAIL big time! Just look at all the "ghost cities" throughout China - there's roughly over 50 cities China's real estate developers built and they all turned out empty and abandoned!
Look at the Chinese investment to build a city "Forest City" to be exact, in Malaysia. No investors came and that's now pretty much a "ghost city!" That cost over $100 billion USD!
Laotians earn what $2500 per year? The vast majority of Laotians will not be able to afford that those luxury condos or apartments in Beung That Luang!
Foreign investors or retirees will not be buying there either because it has no infrastructure to support, certainly those working will not be earning enough!
