    The energy in that building was crazy 27 straight wins at home, two wins against the Chicago Bulls and now game 5 at home it must have felt like fight night. These were the day the classic days of bulls vs knicks. although I was a Knicks fan I would watch these games over and over and over for the sheer excitement. These moments can rarely be captured by today's NBA.

    My goodness, what a game! I had forgotten how much Pippen had contributed offensively in this game. Jordan was obviously off offensively as there was no way the Knicks were going to let him light them up for 54 points, like he did in Game 4. But these clips show that Jordan did all the LITTLE things it takes to help his team win other than just score: double-digit assists, offensive rebounds and putbacks, blocked shots, steals, etc. Whatever it takes!

    This is probably one of the top 5 best playoff games ever. Most people think of MJ as a scoring machine but he actually KILLED the Knicks in this game with all the intangibles: offensive rebounds, finding the open man, hustle plays, and getting it done on the end where it really counts: defense. It’s hard to say if Smith was fouled at the end there for sure but unless it was BLATANTLY obvious they weren’t going to call it in a frantic situation like that.

    What a game! I remember me and my father and uncles all in the front room watching this game. My father just got us a big screen tv that winter with a surround stereo he hooked up to the TV. Living here in Chicago watching the Bulls was must. Those last seconds my house was going crazy 🤣

    This game shows why Pippen was important during the championship reign of the 90's. Scottie in the last two games against the Knicks he basically helped Jordan carry the Bulls to the Finals and my favorite part of the game was the facial dunk on Starks (7:45).
    Maybe even more nasty then the Dunk on Ewing (in my opinion)

    This game had so many storylines, even two nicknames. Bull fans call it "The Block Party at Madison Square Garden" Knick fans call it the "Charles Smith Game."
    Chicago vs New York; Jackson vs Riley, so-called grace vs so-called power; Jordan vs Ewing & the best teams in the NBA, who were on a collision course all year.
    There were great plays & bizarre plays, like Jordan & Pippen in transition, mistaking an official for a teammate & throwing the ball at him. (even Phil Jackson laughed)
    Bulls went up 8, then Ewing hit a "3" Bulls next chance to regain control, Grant missed a free throw, Cartwright fouled out going for the rebound & "control" was replaced by anxiety of Ewing vs Will Purdue or Stacy King
    Marv Albert said "this game could define Ewing legacy." not long before Knick's biggest off-season acquisition was stuffed over & over, with the game on the line.
    When my legacy is defined, I hope I play the way Ewing played that night.
    Bill Murray poking fun at the all-consuming Jordan media coverage, which I feared might drive Jordan into retirement after '93 Postseason. Seems crazy to think about that now.
    Thank God the Bulls were there to carry Cub & Bear fans like myself thru the 90s

  • @cschnei2014

    For me, this game just confirms that Patrick Ewing was screwed as an NBA player. Jordan had guys who could step up for him, Paxson hit the big shot in 93, Kerr the big one in 97, obviously Pippen always came through for Jordan when he had to. Ewing's guys? Get point blank layups blocked over and over again like Smith. Or go ice cold in Game 7 of the Finals like Starks. Ewing's no Jordan, but he'd have gotten his ring if he had teammates that could deliver in the clutch.

      kerr and paxson both averaged under 5 ppg wtf are you talking about. Pippen, who became an all star in 1991, never averaged over 20 in a playoffs. John Starks and Charles Oakley became All Stars for the Knicks and they had tough guys like Xzavier McDaniel and Anthony Mason to wreak havoc in the post. Chill.

    • @drlee2
      @drlee2 4 роки тому +3

      @@3245mair You're ignoring that the Bulls' played great team defense, too, plus their size and length. Their depth is underrated. The supporting cast and role players under Jordan did so much that they get undervalued: defense, big shots, smart play. The Knicks were tough, but they were hardly as talented as the Bulls. Jordan had Dennis Rodman, Horace Grant, Ron Harper, Scott Williams, Stacey King, Luc Longley, etc. These guys were banging for him, getting rebounds, perimeter defense, and helping keep the team in games from a defensive standpoint.

    From my perspective of the first 3peat team. This was the greatest game played where legacies were at steak. Would fans still consider MJ as an all time great and would haters change their opinions on Ewing not being able to step up in crunch time. This game decided the fates of Jordan and Ewing.

    • @jasonrichards9431
      @jasonrichards9431 10 років тому +7

      Ewing had a great Series especially Game 5, but he lost
      To me legacies are pointless. Jordan's includes great teammates; Ewing's doesn't
      But the GM's were the tall, thin guy with great hair & the pudgy guy covered in doughnut crumbs; not Jordan/Ewing.
      92 Knicks better, IMO X-man McDaniel & Gerald Wilkens no longer affordable, because of blockbuster Clipper trade & payroll that came with it.
      Riley obviously expected a lot from Smith & if he admits he should have replaced Smith with Oakley for the game winning play, well that tells me Smith didn't meet Riley's expectations. If that's true, then blame goes to Riley, not Smith
      Anticipation for this series began 30 seconds after Game 7 of 92.
      Most sporting events fail to live up to their hype. This series exceeded it

    • @jasonrichards9431
      @jasonrichards9431 9 років тому +3

      Here's why it's unfair to judge players on titles. Dynasties prevent a lot of great players from winning or even reaching them.
      In the '60s, '80s & 90s, a lot of 1st ballot Hall of Famers failed to win titles due to the Celtics, Lakers/Celtics & Bulls Some failed to even reach the championship round.

So annoying watching a team try to take advantage of a switch with a big player v small player in the post. It is almost an automatic offensive foul for the big player.

    This game was an absolute battle, this was when the NBA was actually worth watching and not this washed up league that we see today. I think the early-mid 90's Knick's team would beat any team today. No way that Dwight Howard and any other center today could hang with Patrick Ewing. Scottie Pippen on the open floor was just murder.

    My fuck was this great ball in the 90's!! Todays game just lacks any cohesion and team play, all about showboating/dunks and there isn't the same feeling as was then

      nor fundamentals. Back then, most the great big men not only could power dunk and rebound but also had outside games and could hit FTs, and if they were open from 10 ft, they'd bury it. Nowadays, all the C's are horrendous FT shooters who have no finesse game what so ever and god forbid they can hit the shortest of jumpers, or even take em because they are that bad. DeAndre Jordan would of been a scrub in these days but in todays NBA, hes gonna end up getting a fat contract next summer. Ewing could do it all, as could Olajuwoun, Admiral, Brad Daugherty, and Vlade Divacs, Alonzo Mournings..etc

      +DASCO2136 Of course he forgot Miller.Why not?We made it to the finals twice,the Pacers made it once,when the Ewing era was over in 2000.Miller is overrated.

    let's always remember that MJ's Bulls was not a super team unlike the Heat of LBJ and the Lakers' of Kobe in this era.he may have Pippen but the rest were just role players,but still got through w/ 6 rings and it could've been 8 if Jordan did not retire when his father got murdered.

      The 96-98 Bulls had Rodman too tho, thats 3 hall of famers in one team

      @jaboo82681 wrong . U forgot the dpoy awards and rebounding titles Rodman got in Detroit while winning two rings. Rodman was solidified before coming to Chicago

    Cuatro jugadas defensivas en los últimos segundos: Grant con el bloqueo, Jordan con chispar el balón, y los dos últimos bloqueos de Pippen. Sí, algo que en estos días ya no se ve en la Nba: el básquet se gana por defensa.

    The Knicks were 60-22 in 1993...and the Bulls wiped the floor with them.
    Still, the Garden was so alive back then. It was the hottest ticket in town. There were so many celebrities at Knicks games (besides Spike Lee). Now, no one gives a shit. People care about the Knicks as much as they care about the NY Liberty.

      +Peter Parker The Knicks cleared defeated the Bulls in games 1 and 2. But they lacked the strong mental savvy that Detroit possessed and always lost their cool in pivotal moments. The small factors is what did them in as a die hard Knicks fan, i watch these games over and over and analyze what could have been. Today's NBA is not close to the suspense and intensity that this old school basketball brings!! KNICKS!!!

      +Shawn Thomas We just didn't have a good enough supporting cast for Ewing.I love Starks and Oakley but they had Pippen plus better role players than us.

    I just tortured myself again watching Charles Smith miss 3 layups - life of a Knick fan, wound still fresh after all these years - I still hate the Bulls

    Had to rewatch this game for entertainment and nostalgic purposes. Yeah, Charles Smith is under the microscope because of the finish, but the Knicks lost this game at the foul line: 20/35, and they lost by 3. Only a handful of free throws would've changed how this game and possibly this series ended.
