Gilbert says he likes all players, Magic Johnson, Shaquille O'Neal, Lebron James, and Larry Bird because he enjoys the NBA. Rashad doesn't like all these players so he doesn't like watching the game.

It’s hard for me to understand how a student of the game and a fan of the actual game can dislike LeBron as a player. Some people dislike him as a person (or his overly nitpicked perceived personality), and they hate all the media praise and MJ comparisons. But if you take the media out of it, he is the best all-around basketball player ever. His on court game shows that and the recorded documentation (stats) solidifies it. That doesn’t mean MJ isn’t a GOAT, they can both be the GREATEST. The word can be literally plural and singular.

A fan is someone who likes the game
A student is someone who is interested in learning about the game
A purist is someone who has probably played every level of the game while studying it to be adept at another aspect of it that gives you new perspectives. Kenny from HoH would be an example of a purist that hasn’t played but definitely studied it.
You don’t have to like everyone to be fan , and you don’t have to know everything to be a student
But a purist would be able to drop knowledge that makes you question what you think is great vs what actually is.
I root for bron even if I don’t like him , I think he’s too soft for the caliber of player he is.
That’s how great of a player he is. Even being so soft , we’ve seen him turn on that switch in his prime and he lasted the test of time which is not an easy feat.
I don’t think he’s the best , but he could have been the best had he not hopped teams for rings and quit the complaining. He should have stayed in Miami or Cleveland . His eastern conference record would have been insane. Going to the west outside of his prime years was a mistake to me. Giannis basically took his role , and won a chip just the same without a super team. Being in the east would have guaranteed Lebron more chances to get the ring he’s been crying for. Trying to eclipse or be apart of what Kobe and magic and other great lakers have done was never going to happen.
