That job in and of itself makes it hard to be very warm and outwardly empathetic on a daily basis. Not sure how they could solve that really, since it's just a part of the job that would wear on anyone.

It looks same but it is way different & better than the show.
Its a podcast medium, meaning way more listeners hear it from countries where the show never aired or was on very late night time.
It is freely available to everyone through official websites & podcast apps like spotify, apple, google, seriusxm etc to every open source podcast app making ir available.
On the podcast there is no filter of saying curse words & no pressure of it being censored for being too gory like explaining a man's accident injuries etc.
There is no hard time limit & usually 1 hour is the average guest talk time which is way longer than any show without any censoring & limiting.
You get crystal clear audio because it is a podcast & you could listen to it at your own time.
Casual nature & being open about everything is only able through podcast.
Just look how conan swears & goes into real dark comedy in the podcast compared to the show where it is clean.
I'm saying this cause we never had conan's show available in our country & through this medium there are definately millions of new conan fans growing from countries like mine

Burr understands he needs to be truthful, but with just the right amount of tact and humility. We need more of Burr-type humor to release the pressure. Maher's humor has a similar effect. The common thread is truthfulness.

I witnessed a somewhat similar bike accident a couple of years ago.
I was from uni, on a Friday afternoon, when I heard a glorious motorbike engine coming from behind.
Looking through the bus window, all I could see was a red lightning on the highway - he was there, then he wasn't. I got scared for the rider, so I said a little prayer for him, "I hope he returns to his loved-ones home safely."
But before I could return to my book, I heard the woman in front of me scream: the biker hit a Toyota Quantum, and the impact sent him up in the air.
Almost everyone stopped on the highway to see how he was doing while someone called an ambulance.
I think of that man every now and then and hope that he did make it out.

You should never take life serious to where you can't at least later laugh at how stupid everything & everybody is. Comedy provides at least some relief in such an insane world. Thanx for providing me with much relief, Bill Burr! You're the man.

Bill's story about the tape reminds me of how my first copy of Pink Floyd's The Wall was a cassette-to-cassette rip that I made myself with the built-in recording mic accidentally left switched on, so the result was that the first time I ever listened to this album that's known for having lots of background detail in the sound design, I had to analyze it closely to be sure what was the stuff on TV in Pink's hotel room and what was just my Dad, for instance, calling out to my Mom, "JANE??? ARE ANY OF THE TOWELS CLEAN??? I NEED A SHOWER!!!!"

That's a perfect example (The Great Santini) about how people can completely miss the greater narrative in a film or show, and instead they identify with a character and see themselves vindicated. Scary to wonder how many are acting out the worst characters from shows in which the identify with the bad guys i.e., Breaking Bad thinking its cool.
