In north east India locals make their houses with this technique. As this place is earthquake prone, this technique keep them out of danger. Their houses are made on wooden pillars and frames. Floors are made with wooden planks.

@@a-mpmccarthy6782 galvanized diamond mesh, 2'x8' sheets. Aluminum pan head roofer lock the mesh to the backer. Although you could use coated ribbed nails with a retainer disc as well. Either or works fine. I like aluminum, no potential for rust

Either way you'll use a wire but you would have to attach the wire if it's a fieldstone style stack wall with mortar you would have to use a 3in stainless steel or aluminum nail with a flare panhead to secure the wire. Nailing between the joints. If it's a block style crumbling wall then you would use a Hilti style gun with a ring fastener

When you install the wire you want the lower part of the v to the diamond to be cuffed so it's slants inward so when the motor is placed on the mesh it cups and holds the mortar agai and prevents the mortar and prevents the mortar and prevents the mortar and prevents the mortar from falling off the mesh

So what you should be doing is applying the mesh directly onto the brick. They sure when you use fasteners such as a Hilti gun, that you're not too close to the edge to blow apart the brick. So typically when you're wrapping brick such as a fireplace or something similar you usually dry form your wire for your corners we're pre cut before you start fasting. The idea is to get it secured so it hugs The Brick and doesn't belly outward. Any place where the wire pulls away from the brick you'll want to secure with a fastener. Show the biggest rule here is also to make sure that the wire mesh caps in word on the lower portion of each Diamond so that it retains the mortar as it's being applied. In short wire first then two coats of mortar
I have a customer that has parging on a insulated foundation. Its cracked and crumbling, some spots you can see the foam insulation. She wants this redone. Could I just appl felt paper right over the old stuff and then put the wire mess on top?

The wire mesh is a veey common product at box store or concrete retail store. Straight masonry application would crack overtime and separate and fall. So you must use mesh for this application

Most builders will use mortar to put a two coat porch over cinder block that's usually okay if there's two coats the first coat is a base coat and once applied score grid line across it using a nail or a tool. That will assist in holding the secondary coat as a bond. First coach called a scratch coat second to the finish code. In this video the wood frame attached to lower portion of the building then protected by plywood then felt. So there was a definitive need to hang wire mesh with two coats of masonry over top of it as the masonry is attached and connected to the mesh wire itself and not the surface of the plywood. So in a roundabout way to answer your question to copart on cinder block surface is okay with a first coat being a scratch coat. Just make sure you use a good quality masonry mix such as Masons mix which has a high concentrate of lime.
I can't get premixed stone veneer mortar mix in my local stores - do you have a good recipe for creating an equivalent - I have read so many variations that I don't know who to trust.

So in this video the backer board was only used to create a bump out frame so that the foundation pushes past the exterior wall. If you're going over straight block and you're not dumping out the wall we're making it thicker you can attach your wire directly to the block

Yes. Without wire masonry coating will pull and crack. With wire it becomes almost stand alone veneer although pinned to the the building. Remember everything expands and contracts.

Pinning mesh will prevent loosening of the veneer due to elimates. Also yoy will be binding mortar to the block and mesh at the same time. If you look at block foundations that have just a pass of mortar over top of it 9 out of 10 times you'll see cracking and flaking and chipping away in chunks. It's never a good idea to parge directly over smooth block as it will not last it will separate over time. A solid firm pin Foundation is the key to longevity
I screened the front of a cement pourch and few spots some big chunks fell out so it has a gap behind the sceen... should i fill the gap with something first?
I would just make sure you have a fast and felt barrier and long enough anchors to secure the wire to the face of the foam and the felt so it doesn't pull off

What i want to do is place this wire mesh on dirt and cover it. Keeping ground hogs from digging holes around the house also in the yard. Then place pavements. Is this a good idea?
I wouldn't recommend it. If you're doing pavers there's a system for that which requires 4 in of crush to be compacted for a bed and then an inch of sand and then the paver
For this particular job yes because it had to be packed out to match the above siding grade which was packed out with 1 by 3 furring over top of the block wall

No other option. 1/4 diamond galvanized mesh. Comes as 27"x96" lengths.

Just use carbon fiber stucco lath.
I find that if you don’t have a trowel, in a pinch, using a picture frame is a very suitable alternative.

The mesh should be pinned snuggly against the block wall to avoid any gapping between mesh wire and wall, "if I understood correctly"?

spray foam the inside with architectural closed cell foam. boom it would be insulated very well

All fir members are attached to the block via hilti gun. Verticals at 24" oc. The horizontal members to box. All wood 1/2" off the grade
