The reason your weapon was breaking so easily is that you were using its special ability. In DS1 and DS2, some weapons have special moves that deal more damage at the expense of the item’s durability. It’s why repair powder is important. Also, your suspicions about the ring were correct!
Truly another masterpiece video from the lore gained / put on the board to the characters met and mistakes made. Keep making videos like this emotional-rollercoaster-masterpiece and I’ll keep watching!
The shaded woods is one of my favorite areas in DS2 for some reason. Doors of Pharros is also cool. I recommend continuing down that route until you get to the end. Grave of Saints is like a side area.
Dude thank you! I'm so glad I can share this with you guys. I'm very lucky to have you guys show me how to patiently experience each area and that is making me enjoy it so much!
@ArkadiBolschek seriously, I've watched ~50 DS1 playthroughs, I think this is the first DS2 one I'm watching, and eager for every time a new episode drops.
2:29:31 Unfortunately you missed majority of Manscorpion Tark dialogue because you first talked to him after defeating Najka. He also would be available as a summon for the bossfight. I recommend checking his dialogue on youtube, it is quite interesting.
Very glad to hear that you appreciate what DS2 is doing! your enjoyment and excitement are palpable, so I had no reason to worry you were not having a good time, but it's great to hear regardless.
Great episode as always. I'd personally recommend doing the Grave of saints next. It's pretty short and is meant to be done with the gutter and black gulch, so that'd mostly finish off that area of the game. Also I'm not sure if anyone else mentioned it, but the laughing you hear is the curse urns.
It s that time again Wuggs, time for the weekly comment as always 😉 Overall I am very happy that you found out that the one key you collected from the lizards leads to a dlc. But DLC is for later times. The Shaded Woods is (for me) one of the most unpleasant areas of DS2 because as you said, if you can t see what you re fighting it s sh@t. But you explored everything inch by inch and made the right decisions so, really good job there. What surprised me the most was the moment that you were allowed to pass through the Metall Shrine of Winter !!! Normally there are two requirements possible for opening that door and you need one of those requirements fulfilled. (Small celebration here: You opened it by fulfilling the most difficult requirement). Keep in mind that the firekeeper said that it is too early to go to the castle. This means that the expected requirement has not been met yet. (That s unfortunately as far as I m allowed to talk about this, the rest you have to figure out yourself 😉) Maybe one last thing with regards to weapons: Big weapons are good and do a lot of damage with one hit BUT in this stage it is only one hit and dodge. In this stage of the game you also need to consider sth like DPS (Damage Per Strike). For instance: two greatswords at this stage and with your profile, give out one hit and do 780-900 damage depending on the enemy and then you need to dodge because you only have stamina to do that realistically, while the hammer can do three hits and one dodge with one hit doing 280-390 damage. You can do the rest of the math and youl will understand what I mean. I am telling you this because now in the early stages you need to find the balance for the weight of your character. 😉 (BUT TAKE YOÙR TIME WITH THAT, IT NEEDS TIME TO BE UNDERSTOOD ) But yet again a fantastic video Wuggs as always and for next time, Pharros is the way to go. But I would also suggest to do the grave of saints too at the start (But it s optional). It does not take long to explore. It s your choice and we are with you
I always look forward to these Pana thank you! good info here and nice compliments that I appreciate too! I definitely get you with the hammer thing, it seems like it might depend also if there is enough of a pocket to get off three of the hammer hits. I'll keep all of this in mind cause I hadn't really considered it before LOL, thank you
39:33 - As a general note re: "51 upvotes" - if you rate a message as 'bad', it still counts towards the total number of votes. 51 is a combination of those who rated it good or bad - there's no way for you to distinguish between the two. So always use best judgement. :)
This might be my favorite episode yet. I have been waiting for you to get to the shaded ruins, and you did not disappoint. Shaded ruins is in my top 5 areas of the game, because there's just so much going on in such a small area. It's just so dense with little secrets everywhere. You're really seeing what I see when playing this game, and I love it. I'm sure people are gonna get on you for not talking to manscorpion tark before the boss fight, but don't beat yourself up. Most people tend to make the mistake of killing him, or don't even remember the ring. You did miss some lore, and he is a summon for the boss you just beat... Don't worry yourself though, because his summon doesn't impact rewards, and the summons in general aren't as important as you've been led to believe. Try to remember he's there though, because you will want to speak with him again after collecting the last great soul. That's the best I can explain without spoilers. Grave of saints is a very small, and not especially significant area. You'll probably knock it out in 20 minutes. You can probably just do it anytime it suits you before drangleic castle. What ever you decide, don't forget about returning to black gulch before going to the castle. As always Wuggs, you're doing great, and I'll see you in the one.
ayyye I'm glad to hear it! and honestly a lot of it was sparked from our conversation about the gutter, so I owe you for that even if we didn't see eye to eye at first, seriously than you. and yeah I do feel bad I missed out on that, but it'll motivate me to try harder to figure out something I don't understand BEFORE the boss door next time
@@Wuggernaut instead of feeling bad, you should give yourself massive credit for finding the fang key, and vengarls outfit.... 1:50:50 was your defining moment for success in this area.
Wugs you are the perfect balance. You’re interested in the lore, your having fun with an unga bunga build, your hilarious and willing to suffer for our amusement. Truly the Master of all four elements of souls. ❤
Dude you are too kind, I really appreciate you saying this. I just want to make more and more entertaining videos for you guys and get the most I can out of these games and you made me feel like I'm on the right track with this comment, ty dude.
The key to the shaded woods is that you have to attack the moaning trees. When u attack them, they attracts the invisible enemies who'll attack the trees for a short while instead of u. You keep doing that as u explore the forest and you'll almost never get attacked.
Special attacks are balanced by using a bunch of durability. Also an easy way to fight the big hippo guys is to stand behind them and bait their but slam attack. As long as you stand behind them they will always do that move and it leaves them wide open for a few seconds. Normaly you cant enter through the shrine of winter, you have to defeat all 4 main bosses to pass it but, it also let's you go through if you have a soul memory of atleast 1million. (total souls accumulated, can be seen in status screen).
It's heart warming seeing you enjoying yourself so much, with lore, new weapons and the world, I feel that hard that time remembering the first time I got the smelter sword all the way back there as a 11 year kid
Dude it is SO SICK. and I'm super glad you're enjoying it, I'm so thankful you guys have taught me how to enjoy these style of games over the past playthrough and a half, I'm getting so much more out of ds2's story, environment and characters than ds1 because of the advice you all give 🙏
Special abilities on weapons use durability...You can use the Ring of Whispers that you buy from the cat in Majula to talk Man Scorpion Tark before you fight the boss, he actually has some good lore! You can also summon him for the boss if you talk to him first...Great episode!
Love the diversity with equipment you use, many cool items in game. 45:10 - Full on laughed at that death (Thank You) 1:12:50 Usually the door opens by itself when the requirement is met, otherwise it's closed. You pushed it open because of your soul memory (1 million ). Hence Emerald Herald's dialog. 1:52:42 Excellency timed quote. 2:10:07 "Just down the way" :D :D Missed dialogue with scorpion guy by defeating Najka first but do check in on him once in awhile (he was a summon too) Happy Souls has most likely been recommended before but a DS2 player has to see it after finishing the game. Great video and next one should be very exciting. Ba Bye
The highlight of my every week is watching you play this masterpiece. Also someone else said about edge of the black gulch, you should start at the first bonfire with torch (theres few drops) and in the video you explored the black gulch a message said here to the edge and i think it was funny how you said nope
True I need to go back there for sure! and thank you so much for saying that, a highlight for me is reading all your guys' comments and seeing what you thought about the episode!
18:59 Someone probably mentioned this, but the special abilities use a ton of durability on boss weapons. Just the way the game limits how op they would be with no downside, rather than using mana or something. So just stock up in repair powder when you get to the merchant who sells it, and/or don't use the special ability a ton
If you spoke to Manscorpion Tark before fighting Scorpioness Najka then you could have summoned him for the boss fight. and the item on the tree in the boss arena was only a flame butterfly, so you didn't miss out on much in that regard
This was an excellent ep, Wuggs! You found my other favorite NPC, Vengarl! He's right up there with Lucatiel for me, both such fascinating characters. Well done in this area!!
I would really recommend unequiping the serpent rings. The gold one is only good for farming, as it’s a minor boost and you have barely enough time to equip the silver one after a boss kill for the extra souls, with a bit of practice.
In Dark Souls, weapons with a special attack - like the Smelter Sword - consume large amounts of durability each time you use said special attack. Basically, this is a limiting mechanic to stop you just blasting everything with super-powered attacks constantly. You can ameliorate this by wearing a special ring, and by using repair powder and/or the repair spell. Edit: FYI it is possible to wield two smelter swords, so if you are inclined keep that dream alive!
FYI, for the silky smooth stuff - you can drop multiple INDIVIDUAL items and pick them up all together. You just can't drop them with the the "how many" prompt. You can, however drop them one after the other...
You can drop all the Silky Smooth Stones one at a time directly from your inventory, without needing to leave and re-enter it each time-it’ll save you a lot of time! You can also climb ladders faster by holding B (or Circle, depending on your controller) while climbing. Lastly, I believe you can upgrade your stamina continuously, but keep in mind that doing so may stop improving other stats like it normally would. Just something to consider when allocating your points! Hope this helps-keep up the great work!
Also also, Tark has dialog before you face Najka that explains why he gives you the fragrant branch of yore, you can look it up online if you're curious, it is quite interesting and will have something to do with a later area
Wugg, in the Huntsman Copse, the bridge leading to the Chariot Boss still hides two nice items; one at the beginning and one at the end. One item you can burn at the bonfire, and the other opens secret entrances.
Loving this episode. Those lizards were the bane of my existence. Fun fact, you can skip the key by LEAPING off and plunge attacking one of the lizards, but I don't recommend trying! 44:55 has to be my favorite death of yours. Maybe from anyone. :D
1:08:05 The falconers' walk animation is quite possibly the single jankiest/most unfinished animation From has included in any of these games. Absolutely hilarious if you slow it down and look.
-Special weapon attacks consumes weapon durability (Smelter sword has about 70 durability and using special consumes 10). The best use for it is to killk bosses weak to fire (it does it's job admirably though) and be sure to stock up on repair powders -Aurous set has two versions, visible and invisible. The invisible one has lower stats, but has an effect of raising equipment load while also being incredibly light compared to visible version (7.6 instead of 22.9) -For dealing with invisible ghosts, ultra greatswords or any other weapon with wide sweeping arc is recommended -The facetree's purpose is just to attract the ghosts so you don't have to wait them to come to you -The laughing is from those curse-inflicting vases -That's not Gavlan -The guy on wheelchair must be met three times on three separate locations before you can use what you called as "elevator" (you already met him on Shaded Woods, the other area is Black Gulch and Drangleic Castle)
This is true fashion souls...changing clothes every five minutes. And I'm convinced the haters of this game are those who are only in it for the boss fights.
I know it’s a little bit late but that old guy reminded me But you missed a small area in the black gulch , it’s a drop in front of the second worm hole , you can see it easily with a torch and it is very important for that old man in the wheelchair and something giant…. I hope you visit it really quickly in the next video . Can’t wait for the rest of the playthrough and sorry for the long comment😅
well while you’re at it 😁 so you make full use of it , there is a door you haven’t gotten to in the big hole in mejula , it is easily accessible with the 12k ladder , but you’ll need to visit the black gulch first to access it
@@azzazel994 I’m not very sure . The area I mentioned is the only one I know about , it is technically 2 rooms on top of each other if that’s what you meant . But if you remember what it is , it will be helpful to describe.
I love Vengarl! Meeting him feels so special I'm glad you got that Fang key. I had to search that up in my playthrough ^^' Well done getting the ring too! Also just gonna say that the Forlorn armor's lore surprised me
Death by enemies : 68 Death by gravity : 47 Death by invaders : 23 Death by traps : 7 The pursuer : 5 Mytha : 2 Dragon rider : 2 Executioner's Chariot: 1 The lost sinner: 1 Old Dragon Slayer: 1 The Rotten: 1 Ruin sentinels: 1 Bell gargoyles : 1 smelter demon: 1 iron king: 1 best death : 30:00
Tip for the smooth and silky stones - you can drop them all without exiting the inventory screen, you just have to drop them one at a time(I figured that would save some time)
Oh wow, I finally caught up. I've been bingewatching your DS1 and now DS2 series while (re)playing DS1 and now playing DS2 myself for the first time. And I've to say, it's been a blast to experience this in parallel with you. Thank you so much for the vids. I just love your enthusiasm when going in the games, that's what had me captivated. Keep up the attitude and please, never go hollow. I'd hate to see this (and future) series go unfinished. You rock, man. Also, will there be a series with Mrs. Wuggs playing through the series? I'm trying to get my wife to play it, too, and she is considering after seeing her trying it out as well :D
Omg that’s awesome about your wife! And yeah we’ll keep the Thursday streams as her playing dark souls unless she goes hollow 😅 and tysm for the kind words dude, it’s so awesome to know you are enjoying the videos, especially when playing alongside me, that’s cool 🙏🙏
Great job, man! You were really on fire this episode - literally, at some points! Also, great call on the Hammer & Shield build, it really served you well when you were fighting those dastardly shades in the forest (picking the wrong weapon here leads to serious tears, as they are fast and you can't lock on to them... you need something with a wide swing). Even though you were building for the greatswords, your tremendous strength still yields dividends with one-handed strength weapons, like the Artisans Hammer. (The hammer itself is a fabulous weapon, though you might also consider Vengarl's rust red sword and scimitar, which both scale excellently with strength. Unfortunately, it all takes twinkling titanite to upgrade, though.) It's good to have multiple options for builds... I like to have an arsenal of different weapons for each of my characters to play around with, and maybe a light and a heavy armor set, though that's probably excessive in the eyes of most DS players. I would make an investment in VITALITY going forward, so you can wield your cool swords AND your cool armor at the same time. You can probably hold off on more STR... unless of course you do really want dual smelter swords! -IIRC the biggest bonk of them all comes in at about 50 STR. After that you get diminishing returns, so the only point becomes absurd dual wield powerstancing builds.- Edit: Lol, was I wrong! The biggest bonk is 70 STR to one-hand. Absurd!
@@Wuggernaut When I did DS1, I never carried any weapons I couldn't 1-hand. Shields are less necessary in DS2, though, so I usually had one super-heavy bonk that I couldn't 1-hand for each of my characters in DS2. (Part of it was also that I got more coordinated over time, so it was easier to switch on the fly.) DS2 also allows you to effectively double your STR by two-handing, meaning two-handing the big boys is easier than in DS1: with 35 STR you can wield even the heaviest weapons, and you've already cleared that handsomely.
You actually missed the Rebel’s Greatshield description, which has some really key DS2 lore. Also, if you got the ring and talked to Tark before Najika, you could get some conversation and summon him. I’d keep him in mind if you defeat any other insect/arachnid bosses, because he has some really important dialogue if you wanted some DS1 connection, especially with these ‘great souls’ 👀 You could also go around to those DLC fountain/shrine things and read the tablets next to them to get some more lore for your board and a little taste for what’s to come. And yes, DS3 does balance boss fights and story/exploration really well :)
FYI, there is a way to disable the poison in the earthen peak. When the poison is disabled, the Pharos lockstone fountain releases cleansing healing water that can cure you of poison. The fountain you found before the smelter demon also has this healing effect, and had you soaked yourself, it would also increased your fire resistance quite a bit. On a related note, getting the flash sweat pyromancy, sure resist ring, soaking in water, and wearing the highest fire resistance armor, and pop a healing crystal, you can survive just long enough to grab the loot on the fire paths of the iron keep. For your build, it’s not really worth it because the loot is all pyromancy related.
So glad you remembered Shalquoir until the last minute 😂 I was just about to remind you of my comment from last episode As for the time where you found the message near the white tree next to the Hippo-dude? It's a hint that you'll understand when playing DS3... Other than that, another great and exciting episode. The love you expressed for the game is something I can totally relate to. ❤ Can't wait for next week! 🤘😎
@Wuggernaut No worries, buddy! The important thing is you're having fun. When I replayed the game a few weeks ago I discovered completely new things that I never saw back in the day 😅 Dark Souls is the series that keeps on giving 💪😎
Another great episode! A small tip for identifying hostiles vs NPC's -- use the lock-on test. Press R3 and, if you get a lock on, it's guaranteed not a friendly NPC. At most, it could be an enemy with odd behavior, but as far as I'm aware, you can only lock onto hostile/enemy targets. Obviously, if there's any doubt, it's better to be cautious. I would really hate to be wrong about this and screw you over, so maybe it's worth verifying with someone else if you plan to do it, but I can't think of a single time in any Soulsborne game where you can lock on to a friendly NPC. Oh, and keep in mind this rule doesn't work the other way around. Sometimes certain enemies can't be locked on, even if they are hostile.
Patience is key for this game. Most ppl who hate it because they try to rush the game but the game doesn't let you and it becomes frustrating. I think you are doing very well on ds2. Most of the challenge will come from the dlcs though. The boss fights from dlcs are amazing and base game also has some pretty good bosses.
I'm really excited for the DLC boss fights, but at the same time they can wait cause I am just basking in these areas and characters right now also thank you :)
Just commenting to say I'm still immensely enjoying your DS playthroughs. Haven't been commenting as regularly as I'm not nearly as familiar with DS2 as DS1, but it's still a great game with a lot of replay value just due to the immense wealth of possible builds/playstyles. If you want to play another game that really rewards exploration, try Hitman some time. The devs put so many details into each level (or "map") and there's SO many creative ways to carry out assassinations. You can easily spend days on a single map just exploring every nook and cranny, and it's so rewarding when you come across a new conversation that gives a hint for how to carry out a hit. Like DS it can be frustrating as it's a real challenge doing things the "right way" (nobody spots you doing anything illegal, nobody finds the bodies and/or you make hits look like accidents), but seeing that "Silent Assassin" rating pop up at the end is SO satisfying!
I'm really glad you're enjoying them, and all good on the comment thing 🙏 also thank you for the suggestion, I've never played a hitman game but you make it sound really fun
if you still havent noticed: you can read all the lore of every item that is being sold in a shop/ by a merchant/trader. you dont have to buy the item first. you just need to press the same button as you would normally do to read the lore. after all you need to know what you are buying
It's kinda fascinating to see what you deem important enough put on the lore board. There's so much that I completely glossed over in my own playthroughs. I already love this game and its story but you're making me appreciate it even more. Can't wait to see what the board will look like by the end. Although I think you might run out of space soon 😅😅
Another awesome episode! I might misremember, but I believe Vengarl has more items on sale for you now. :) In general I would always double check what's for sale every time I visit a merchant since they often update their wares. Might be worth seeing what the stone merchant in Majula carries now, for example. So good to see you experimenting with fashion and weapon combos. :)
Ahhh that’s solid advice thank you! I haven’t made a habit of this yet but I’ll work on that next :) and dude it’s so fun! I didn’t experiment hardly at all in ds1 but I definitely see the appeal now!
1:05:33 It's a reference to Dark Souls III. By then you'll have already forgotten about it tho! 2:06:00 You'll need find this old man twice more, seek the dark feeble cursed one.
Talk to the shopkeeper in the Iron Keep after you’ve spent 10K souls on him. He’s also the spice guy. Spice is a mechanic I wish the other games had adopted. When you use simpletons spice on a spell, it lowers the spell’s intelligence requirement by one, with enough spice, even an unintelligent simpleton could cast the mightiest spells. Skeptic’s Spice is the same but works on the faith requirement of miracles.
32:35 with the key you also picked up a shield that you forgot to read( Rebels Greatshield), it has an important lore and a bit of foreshadowing👀 so after you read it, don't forget to write it on the Board of Lore😁
I like your whiteboard idea, you will definitely need a bigger one soon though lol. Good job on the shaded woods, it's small and easy if you know where to go but sucks your first time or if you are trying to pick up the loot. Those salamanders are the worst enemy in the game, they suck. Too much damage and health and weird hit boxes even by ds2 standards. You can jump off the high ledge above them and do a plunge attack with a unique animation to get into that room earlier and without the iron key, which is neat. You went slightly off the "correct" order by going to the castle already, which is why the emerald herald said your soul is weak. Normally to open the shrine of winter, you need the 4 great souls but it also opens if you have had a million souls collected so far in the game. Good job with the ring of whispers, I left a message about it before I got to the end, then had to edit this since you did it, if you had managed to talk to the scorpion before the boss fight, he was a summon and had some rewards. Nothing major but nice. And you will find Ornifex's home later. It's just right down the road... Do the grave of saints first, it's small and leads to the gutter, so it will be quick since you've already finished the gutter.
The laughing dark vases, Wugg. Which annoyed the hell outta me when I first played the game LOL! Solely because getting cursed in this game reminded me of DS1 curse but apparently has different effect in DS2.
If you burn a Bonfire Ascetic at Shaded Ruins you can revive Scorpioness Ninjak as the boss. You found her quite easy so you may enjoy the fight at NG+ difficulty more. This should let you talk to Manscorpion Tark and get his dialogue before the fight - and now you can summon him for it. Will give you another chance to break the tree with the item on it too. Also, NG+ Ninjak drops a powerful item that first playthrough doesn't. The Ascetic will respawn all wooden chests but not metal ones, and enemies you've unpetrified you don't have to again.
That’s good to know thank you! My first priority is to use an ascetic at each get eat soul to n et more lore on them, but after that this is a good next one 👀👀
Gold serpent ring stacks with the jester mask, the prisoners tatters dropped by hollows, regular and golden lucky coins, and the watchdragon parma you got from that red drake in Heide’s Tower. So if you ever really wanna farm for a specific item, you can combine all those things and even join the champions covenant from Viktors stone in Majula momentarily so that enemies will infinitely respawn. Boss weapons in this game tend to be ridiculously strong and most of them have special R2 attacks but these cause the durability to drop dramatically per swing. But it can be slightly delayed with the bracing knuckle ring
@@Wuggernaut just a heads up btw, If you wish to talk to Mr Manscorpion, you might want to peruse the wares of a particular feline. Also, Vengarls set is indeed one of the best sets in the game in both fashion, equip load, and armor resistance Edit; Nvm! Just finished the video 😂 Major congrats for figuring it out solo!!
Best Souls 2, let's gooo. Excited to watch this. Edit: saw you using the smelter sword. When you're using weapons that have a weapon art like that (a lot of boss weapons do), it costs durability when using the weapon art. Using the weapon normally, it holds up well but if you just spam the weapon art, it will break fast.
1) Divine Blessing is like an Estus flask, but restores health a little slower and removes all negative effects (poison, curse etc). 2) An interesting thing: there is a so-called Name-engraved Ring, which helps players belonging to the same god to more easily find each other to play together. When putting on a ring, a list of the main deities that exist in the game world should be displayed. So... that corner at the bottom of the board will not be enough for all the deities. A little information about the gods you`ve noticed for now. Quella is the goddess of dreams. Her image is an angel. The embodiment of Quella is a tree mentioned in legends: “Once upon a time there lived a boy who was afraid of everything, until a talking tree from the dream world turned itself into a shield to protect him”. Her fables talk about a great divine tree that is capable of talking and can access the "dreamworld". The Blue Sentinels worship this goddess. Zinder is the god of desire. His image is a golden pig's muzzle from the front. The embodiment of God is the serpent, which is said to be both his servant and manifestation. Zandroe, God of Greed is known for exactly the same attributes as Zinder, and the two might have originated from the same legend. Caitha is actually an interesting goddess. In the times and region of Drangleic, Caitha was worshipped as a compassionate deity that is with people in times of tragedy. She was called the "goddess of tears" because she was said to mourn the undeserving dead, shedding tears as red as blood, and those who have lost loved ones, shedding pure tears of blue. These tears of the deity were believed to be the stones set in magical rings, with the same powers and gems that actually originated in Catarina and Carim. It can be theorized that Caitha is actually a "reformed" and "cleansed" version of Velka, Goddess of Sin (but it`s only a theory). However, the sacred chime blessed by her (The Sacred Chime of Caitha) cannot perform miracles and is used exclusively to create spells of the forbidden art of corruption. Because of this, there is an opinion that in fact Caiaphas is “a demon who drags the unfortunate into trouble”. Some believed that Caitha was in fact a demoness that guides humans towards misfortune, as her chimes have the ability to cast hexes, a type of dark magic banned in most lands that is rooted in both sorcery and miracles, instead of the miracles typical of a god. 3) 45:14 that death was so funny, i cant D D D 4) Yeah, Heavy Iron Key is for the DLC. 5) The guy with a blue big sword is Benhart of Jugo. You can meet him 3 more times, I think. First place - Forest of Fallen Giants: he will be sitting in front of fallen giant past the Pursuer's boss arena. Second place - Drangleic Castle: you can`t miss him there. Third place - Memory of Orro: it will be pretty easy to spot him too, just like in Drangleic. You can also get his equipment, including his sword. To do this, you need to call him for help on all bosses near which his summon sign will be. You also need to defeat the bosses so that Benhart is alive at the end of each battle (otherwise the victory will not be counted and you will not be able to get the equipment). So long as you and Benhart complete 3 of any of these fights (or 2 of one and 1 of another, etc.) and he survives each, he will reward you with his gear and achievement if spoken to in the area behind the Pursuer fight. 6) When you reached Drangleic, the Emerald Herald said that your soul is basically weak, since you haven`t killed one more ancient boss yet (but you can still explore the castle). The doors in the Shrine of Winter (a little location with an altar for the DLC before Drangleic) open either when you receive 4 souls of ancient bosses, or when you accumulate soul memory from one million (soul memory is the total number of souls you have received so far). So that basically means that your soul memory is more than one million souls. 7) So since you are using two big swords you might wanna just upgrade hp, endurance and vitality. I`ve played this game a lot and I can tell you, that HP 30, END and VIT 40 (or something around that, if you will not have enough souls for that) will be great for your character, cause: more hp is always good; you will need endurance for attacks and dodges; more vitality will allow you to wear some armor with those swords you are using. But END and VIT are better options if you have a small amount of souls for now. 8) You shold`ve talked to the scorpion guy (Tark) before defeating Najka - he would`ve told you a love story between them or something (don`t remember). And you could`ve also summon him for a boss fight - but it is what it is. 9) The old man in a wheelchair is Darkdiver Grandahl. He is a member of the Pilgrims of Dark covenant, a group dedicated to exploring the depths of the Abyss and unlocking its secrets. Grandahl is a mysterious and enigmatic figure, with little known about his past or motivations. He offers the opportunity to join the Pilgrims of Dark covenant, allowing you to undertake a series of trials in the Abyss to prove your worth. Grandahl has a vast knowledge about the nature of the Dark and the Abyss. He worships the Dark as "the mother of all things" and he firmly believes that by facing the Abyss one will discover the "truest dark" within himself. A thing not far from him is a portal to a new location. You`ll need to find him in two more places so that you can join his covenant and explore location beyond the portal. The first one is in the Black Gulch in a hidden room accessed using the Forgotten Key. There is a ledge you can drop onto off the main path, with an arch door. You can gain the Forgotten Key by killing two Elite Giants in a cave located underneath the door's platform. The second one is in the Drangleic Castle. The Drangleic Castle access point is located in the big room just off the bonfire room. The very last room on the left will contain a partially broken floor. Stepping on the floor will result in falling into the shrine, along with a bonfire.
I appreciate this breakdown dude ty! I had to skip a few things just for spoiler stuff that I wanna avoid and try to find on my own, but I appreciate this huge amount of info!
@@ManiacTobi Well, spoilers are everywhere. And what's the point of hiding something that may not be discovered? Sometimes people replay the same game and places like 20 times and still there is content they cannot see. For example, I found out about the wheelchair guy and his locations from my friend, and he didn't know about it either until he looked it up or randomly saw in a video. Plus there is some info that you can't learn anywhere but from the wiki or developers.
@@rupture2944 you don’t know yet if he will complete Benharts questline or find out about the Pilgrims of Dark - because he isn’t even at a point in the game where he could have done all that. And as Wuggs said in his reply, he wants to try to find stuff on his own.
@54:00 If you haven't spoken to the guy with the blue sword since you un-petrified the statue that was blocking the switch, then you should talk with him to progress his quest-line.
@@Wuggernaut Good that's what he should do. It's just that if you don't talk to him after you un-petrify the woman, then he just sits there forever and you might miss him later.
Glad you like the game for the areas :) Some are great, some are not so great, but honestly, the same applies to DS1 and yet DS1 gets praised all the time while DS2 gets a lot of hate. And I personally think that DS1, while being a great game, still had its flaws and DS2, while not regarded as that great, still has quite a lot of strengths. A few things like always: 1. You would have gotten some dialogue before from the scorpion dude AND you would have had him as a Summon for the Boss Fight if you would have used the Ring earlier. But he will not appear at other locations. However, if you acquired another Great Soul, you should talk to him again. 2. The laughter are the Curse Barrells. And yes, the Ring of Foes also lets you hear the Lion Mages who are growling. 3. "Down the road" aka the home of Ornifex comes up in an area you have yet to find. 4. If you want to decide whether to go to Grave of Saints or Doors of Pharros first, do Grave of Saints. It connects to The Gutter, so once you are done with it, you are done. 5. Scorpioness Najka only resembles Queelag, she has nothing to do with her. The Devs probably just wanted to make a Boss looking similar to her, because it is a cool design. 6. The guy in the wheelchair is at three different locations. Once you have found all 3, you can do his quest. One Location is at the Black Gulch, where messages told you to jump down, which is not a troll.
I completely agree, and as always thank you so much for these tips, you always tidy up my confusion with certain things without any spoilers. I really appreciate that :)
hold on to quella god of dreams for later XD. and maybe the description of the ring of restoration.i spoke too early. the area after doors of pharros gives me the willies XD
„There's no way you can hate it. You shouldn’t, you mustn’t!!“ Heed the words of the Enlightened One!

Your innocence when reading 'try plunging attack' on a tree face with a wide open mouth is so funny lmao
omggggg LOL how did I not catch that

Unga bunga neurons activated
LOOOL big yup
The reason your weapon was breaking so easily is that you were using its special ability. In DS1 and DS2, some weapons have special moves that deal more damage at the expense of the item’s durability. It’s why repair powder is important. Also, your suspicions about the ring were correct!
trying to explore shaded woods is like trying to navigate a supermarket if the lights were off and your vision was upside down
That sounds about right to me 😂
Truly another masterpiece video from the lore gained / put on the board to the characters met and mistakes made. Keep making videos like this emotional-rollercoaster-masterpiece and I’ll keep watching!
I'll do my best dude! I appreciate the kind words
The shaded woods is one of my favorite areas in DS2 for some reason. Doors of Pharros is also cool. I recommend continuing down that route until you get to the end. Grave of Saints is like a side area.
ahh gotcha, thank you! I agree shaded woods was very cool
I don't think I've ever seen anyone enjoy DS2 this much. Your enthusiasm is contagious! 😄👍👍
I definitely will, it's a bummer I missed out on it :/
Very glad to hear that you appreciate what DS2 is doing! your enjoyment and excitement are palpable, so I had no reason to worry you were not having a good time, but it's great to hear regardless.
I'm glad it shines through :) I'm so happy my initial fears were wrong about this playthrough LOL
18:41 Special attacks consume a lot of the weapon's durability, it is best to use them only when you can buy Repair Powder.
Thank you for that tip! Fair enough 🫡🫡
Thank you this'll definitely be the itinerary :)
2:10:04 I’ve been so hyped for you to find this person I’m so glad you actually did find her.

@@shoobydoo this reminds me, he hasn't reacted to Dark Sauce yet, has he?
It s that time again Wuggs, time for the weekly comment as always 😉
Overall I am very happy that you found out that the one key you collected from the lizards leads to a dlc.
(That s unfortunately as far as I m allowed to talk about this, the rest you have to figure out yourself 😉)
Maybe one last thing with regards to weapons: Big weapons are good and do a lot of damage with one hit BUT in this stage it is only one hit and dodge. 😉 (BUT TAKE YOÙR TIME WITH THAT, IT NEEDS TIME TO BE UNDERSTOOD )
But yet again a fantastic video Wuggs as always and for next time, Pharros is the way to go.
Daaaaamn ds2 is evil for that 💀
This might be my favorite episode yet.
As always Wuggs, you're doing great, and I'll see you in the one.
ayyye I'm glad to hear it! and honestly a lot of it was sparked from our conversation about the gutter, so I owe you for that even if we didn't see eye to eye at first, seriously than you. and yeah I do feel bad I missed out on that, but it'll motivate me to try harder to figure out something I don't understand BEFORE the boss door next time
@@Wuggernaut I second gulch! Bring a torch, look for extra paths below!

Dude you are too kind, I really appreciate you saying this. I just want to make more and more entertaining videos for you guys and get the most I can out of these games and you made me feel like I'm on the right track with this comment, ty dude.
Who needs lore videos when Wugg is gonna spill his take on DS2 storyline! History lessons from Sir Wuggs everybody, pay attention!
LOL it may not be accurate but it will be extensive!
The key to the shaded woods is that you have to attack the moaning trees. When u attack them, they attracts the invisible enemies who'll attack the trees for a short while instead of u. You keep doing that as u explore the forest and you'll almost never get attacked.
ahhh Okay, so I was kinda onto something just didn't apply it well at all LOL
Special attacks are balanced by using a bunch of durability. Also an easy way to fight the big hippo guys is to stand behind them and bait their but slam attack. As long as you stand behind them they will always do that move and it leaves them wide open for a few seconds. Normaly you cant enter through the shrine of winter, you have to defeat all 4 main bosses to pass it but, it also let's you go through if you have a soul memory of atleast 1million. (total souls accumulated, can be seen in status screen).
I didn't realize I've gotten so many souls LOL
It's heart warming seeing you enjoying yourself so much, with lore, new weapons and the world, I feel that hard that time remembering the first time I got the smelter sword all the way back there as a 11 year kid
Dude it is SO SICK. and I'm super glad you're enjoying it, I'm so thankful you guys have taught me how to enjoy these style of games over the past playthrough and a half, I'm getting so much more out of ds2's story, environment and characters than ds1 because of the advice you all give 🙏
I'm glad you're enjoying the game. This one is unique in its sense of going on an adventure and that's why it's my fav souls game
I totally agree! That's a good way to put it, I think they captured that feeling really well
Special abilities on weapons use durability...You can use the Ring of Whispers that you buy from the cat in Majula to talk Man Scorpion Tark before you fight the boss, he actually has some good lore! You can also summon him for the boss if you talk to him first...Great episode!
Thanks dude! And yeah I really wish I talked to him before :/
@Wuggernaut Don't feel too bad, it took me 3 playthroughs before I figured it out! lol
The laughing is from the curse urns lol
Love the diversity with equipment you use, many cool items in game.
45:10 - Full on laughed at that death (Thank You)
1:12:50 Usually the door opens by itself when the requirement is met, otherwise it's closed. You pushed it open because of your soul memory (1 million ). Hence Emerald Herald's dialog.

So just stock up in repair powder when you get to the merchant who sells it, and/or don't use the special ability a ton
good tip thank you! here I thought it was cause it was getting wet LOL
If you spoke to Manscorpion Tark before fighting Scorpioness Najka then you could have summoned him for the boss fight. and the item on the tree in the boss arena was only a flame butterfly, so you didn't miss out on much in that regard
Damn I'm really bummed I missed out on some of his dialogue and a cool summon, and thank you for letting me know about that item 🙏
This was an excellent ep, Wuggs! You found my other favorite NPC, Vengarl! He's right up there with Lucatiel for me, both such fascinating characters. Well done in this area!!
Same feelings here! His situation and his perspective on it is so fascinating
I would really recommend unequiping the serpent rings. The gold one is only good for farming, as it’s a minor boost and you have barely enough time to equip the silver one after a boss kill for the extra souls, with a bit of practice.
Ohhhhh damn I thought it would improve item discovery by a lot my bad. I recorded ep 11 already but in 12 I’ll switch the ring build thank you!
Edit: FYI it is possible to wield two smelter swords, so if you are inclined keep that dream alive!
omg... that would be epic.... also thank you for that info!
FYI, for the silky smooth stuff - you can drop multiple INDIVIDUAL items and pick them up all together. You just can't drop them with the the "how many" prompt. You can, however drop them one after the other...
ahhh gotcha, this'll make next time so much faster LOL thank you dude
You can drop all the Silky Smooth Stones one at a time directly from your inventory, without needing to leave and re-enter it each time-it’ll save you a lot of time! You can also climb ladders faster by holding B (or Circle, depending on your controller) while climbing. Lastly, I believe you can upgrade your stamina continuously, but keep in mind that doing so may stop improving other stats like it normally would. Just something to consider when allocating your points! Hope this helps-keep up the great work!
Thank you for these tips dude! they're super helpful, especially the silky smooth one lol, that'll save time. and I will!
Glad you found Vengarl, his story is very neat
You also might want to check what Vengarl's head has for sale now also
Also also, Tark has dialog before you face Najka that explains why he gives you the fragrant branch of yore, you can look it up online if you're curious, it is quite interesting and will have something to do with a later area
he's one of my fav characters so far! and I will do both of those for sure thank you!

Wugg, in the Huntsman Copse, the bridge leading to the Chariot Boss still hides two nice items; one at the beginning and one at the end. One item you can burn at the bonfire, and the other opens secret entrances.

Thank you!
-Special weapon attacks consumes weapon durability (Smelter sword has about 70 durability and using special consumes 10). The best use for it is to killk bosses weak to fire (it does it's job admirably though) and be sure to stock up on repair powders
-Aurous set has two versions, visible and invisible. The invisible one has lower stats, but has an effect of raising equipment load while also being incredibly light compared to visible version (7.6 instead of 22.9)
-For dealing with invisible ghosts, ultra greatswords or any other weapon with wide sweeping arc is recommended
-The facetree's purpose is just to attract the ghosts so you don't have to wait them to come to you
-The laughing is from those curse-inflicting vases
-That's not Gavlan
-The guy on wheelchair must be met three times on three separate locations before you can use what you called as "elevator" (you already met him on Shaded Woods, the other area is Black Gulch and Drangleic Castle)
Appreciate all these tips thank you!

Absurd!
Yeah I love mix and matching weapons and armor! I was too stubborn to do it in ds1 so I’m glad I changed my ways 😅 also 70!?!?
I’d keep him in mind if you defeat any other insect/arachnid bosses, because he has some really important dialogue if you wanted some DS1 connection, especially with these ‘great souls’ 👀
You could also go around to those DLC fountain/shrine things and read the tablets next to them to get some more lore for your board and a little taste for what’s to come.
And yes, DS3 does balance boss fights and story/exploration really well :)
Oooo thank you, I completely forgot, I'll write that down! and YEEESSSS to ds3
@21:10 The 'special' attacks that are tied to heavy-attack use extra durability. Light attacks use durability as normal.
Understood, thank you for letting me know though! 🙏
So glad you remembered Shalquoir until the last minute 😂 I was just about to remind you of my comment from last episode
As for the time where you found the message near the white tree next to the Hippo-dude? It's a hint that you'll understand when playing DS3...

Sometimes certain enemies can't be locked on, even if they are hostile.
ahh understood, that's a good rule to keep in mind thank you! and I'll test it out with a few before relying on it 100% 😅
Patience is key for this game.
Although I think you might run out of space soon
😅😅
dude that's so awesome, thank you so much for letting me know that! and YUP, I'm going out to buy more whiteboard panels very soon LOL
Im proud you became an dual wield ultrasword madman, lost sinner ultra sword and persuer's are a great combination since they wast less stamina
Oooo I’ll keep that in mind!
2:27:02 Yes, that is the correct ring. The description is vague 🙂
I should have waited literally one minute before commenting 😂😂
@@Sabreur23 😅 still appreciate you looking out!
2.5h of Wuggernaut taking on DS2, so excited.
Let’s goooo, Ty dude 🙏
1:05:33 It's a reference to Dark Souls III. By then you'll have already forgotten about it tho!
2:06:00 You'll need find this old man twice more, seek the dark feeble cursed one.
👀👀👀
Talk to the shopkeeper in the Iron Keep after you’ve spent 10K souls on him. He’s also the spice guy.
Spice is a mechanic I wish the other games had adopted. When you use simpletons spice on a spell, it lowers the spell’s intelligence requirement by one, with enough spice, even an unintelligent simpleton could cast the mightiest spells. Skeptic’s Spice is the same but works on the faith requirement of miracles.
Will do! And I getcha, maybe I’ll try that out in some later areas 👀👀
@@pirateskeleton7828 unfortunately, offensive spells and miracles usually scale with stats so they will be much weaker
@@Tony_409yeah so it would be ok for auxiliary spells.
@ Pretty much, though weapon buff spells/miracles have a shorter duration
32:35 with the key you also picked up a shield that you forgot to read( Rebels Greatshield), it has an important lore
and a bit of foreshadowing👀
so after you read it, don't forget to write it on the Board of Lore😁
Thank you so much for letting me know! I'm writing it in my notebook to remember to read next ep
Ahhh okay thank you! And I’m pretty upset I missed that, but next time I’ll try to prioritize figuring out those kind of things before the boss 🙏
I raise your salamanders and give you reindeer
@@andrewbowen2837 You are correct, I meant to specify base game vs dlc.
The laughing dark vases, Wugg. Which annoyed the hell outta me when I first played the game LOL! Solely because getting cursed in this game reminded me of DS1 curse but apparently has different effect in DS2.
true! yeah they were bothering the hell outta me as well lol
🤣🤣🤣 you were definitely on the right track. Good thinking!
45:00 sit at the bonfire the do your experiments i didn't even know that those things move if you hit them
I 100% should've done that
Gold serpent ring stacks with the jester mask, the prisoners tatters dropped by hollows, regular and golden lucky coins, and the watchdragon parma you got from that red drake in Heide’s Tower.
Ooooh good to know! I might just do that for a certain pyromancy set 😈👀
@@Wuggernaut Yeah sure and I bet Rosabeth would appreciate a new change of clothes 🤣
@@totalgarbage2053 You’re on to me
@@Wuggernaut just a heads up btw, If you wish to talk to Mr Manscorpion, you might want to peruse the wares of a particular feline. Also, Vengarls set is indeed one of the best sets in the game in both fashion, equip load, and armor resistance
Edit; Nvm!
@@shoobydoo I hope you enjoy dude :)🙏
The amount of weapons in this gane is crazy
3) 45:14 that death was so funny, i cant D D D
4) Yeah, Heavy Iron Key is for the DLC.
@Wuggernaut you’re welcome)
Way too many spoilers in there.
@2:20:26 Yes, there is a summon for that boss fight, but you have to speak to a certain NPC to make it available.
the durability of your weapon goes down when you use your special move
@54:00 If you haven't spoken to the guy with the blue sword since you un-petrified the statue that was blocking the switch, then you should talk with him to progress his quest-line.
I thiiink i talked to him after unpetrifying Rosabeth, and then he left, but i could be wrong
A few things like always:
Not sure if anyone told you but you can reset points at the old ladies at the beginning if you want to change build.
I appreciate that! I'll keep that in mind, so far I'm loving the bonk build though
@ it requires a soul vessel which is rare anyway(only set number available).
1:31:09 "...including Lothian?" another lmao. "I know _one_ thing about your country, let me bring it up!" :D
hahahah you got me there
the smelter deamon greatsord isn't that fragile , the heavy attack does a special move but it costs durability

And the ring of whispers would have allowed you to talk to the scorpion. He was your summons.
I’ve never used the smelter sword, but I know in DS1, some weapons special attacks killed the durability.
I assume that’s what’s happening
Yeah you're definitely right
