  • This is the definitive documentary on the media-shy Metropolitan Police Special Escort Group, which is charged with protecting and escorting heads of state, government ministers and the Royal Family through London and the south east.
It features all-new footage covering every aspect of the world-reknowned group's operations, shot in HD from a number of locations across London, combined with re-edited video from the original Inconspicuous Ingenuity film shot on an escort in November 2000.
Highlights include all-new HD footage filmed in 2013, from the seat normally occupied by the principal VIP, in the lead vehicle in a motorcade on an epic journey through central London. It features some of the capital's most iconic buildings and landmarks.
The 30 minute film is produced, filmed and narrated by journalist Antony Loveless, an expert in police and and defence issues, who was given exclusive and unprecedented access to the group.
This is a unique and totally exclusive look into the secretive work of one of the most media-shy close protection units in the UK.

Years ago, before sat nav was a thing I was part of a transplant surgery team. We were in an ambulance trying to find the Chelsea and Westminster hospital. We ended up outside Buck Palace totally lost and the driver asked one of these blokes on a motorbike for directions. They decided to escort us as we were in a bit of a hurry. I have never travelled so fast through zone 1 of London. It was quite an experience.

The second part of the film shows in the main one of the years the SEG team escorted 10 families with disabled or terminal children as part of a special visit to London. Sadly for some of the families each year the filming we do of the day is the last memory the family have together smiling. For other families they continue to enjoy their special day and relive when they were escorted as The Royal Family, PM and visiting Heads of State have been by the SEG team. To date they have provided this escort with Sporting Bears for 50 families from children's charities across the UK. We are grateful for their roadcraft in London and thank the Met Police for adding support to a special day to these families lives.

In the early seventies I had to drive a very large wheeled earthmover in convoy with four others from Dartford where we had been working on the new power station on to Bristol where we were going to work on the new Portbury dock. We were escorted right through the centre of London by a similar crew of motorcyclists to the M4 where we had to wait for daylight before proceeding down the motorway with civilian escort vans. Between Dartford and the M4 we didn't stop once, even for traffic lights that we damaged because they were not wide enough to allow us through. This is not allowed now and all oversize machines have to be transported. For the technically minded the machines were four wheeled Caterpillar dumptrucks, 769Bs, that were fourteen feet wide. A normal truck is 9foot 6ins.

Brilliant. More than a few "Blue Light Brigades" around the world could take more than a leaf out of SEG's book. This is what you get when security needs to be real and not theater. Quick but not fast, but more importantly very dynamic. I would be interested in how the rear guard prevents "chasers"

@@afcgeo882 This is a fairly normal way to protect even high value targets. By moving through the city at 25mph but rapidly changing the route minute by minute it makes it almost impossible for terrorists to set up an attack. Compare this to the US where if the President had to go from the White House to the UN building then the streets would be barricaded and it would need a few thousand police and many other security people just for a minor trip. As any terrorists would know the cavalcade timing it meant that snipers etc would have to cover every roof top. A typical Hollywood Rambo type set up. In Britain we use our brains and commonsense which usually works very well..

    • @afcgeo882
      @afcgeo882 3 роки тому

@@richarddickson747 There are only so many routes one can take from point A to point B, without needlessly exposing the customer to added risks. The unit primarily escorts low threat targets this way. High value targets get significantly larger escorts with more cycles and more armed personnel in vehicles, especially when it’s a foreign head of state, because they always up their protocols on unfamiliar terrain.
Also, the White House is in Washington and the UN is in New York. While there is a lot of security for the US President, the timing and specific routes for such trips are actually made up last minute as well. During the UN General Assembly, the entire area around the UN compound is closed off and snipers are deployed, not for the US President specifically, but for the hundreds of dignitaries from all around the world that move around the area every day, for a week. Even the East River is closed off for that time, as the UN compound is on its banks.
You seem to be running low on intelligence and high on moronic hate of the US. Better make that NHS psychiatry appointment you seem to need, mate!

The leading rider needs to have nerves of steel, especially as his colleagues rush closely past him to race ahead to stop the traffic.
Fascinating with very skillful riding an manouveres..

I actually wonder how that system would work in other countries. I see a lot of cooperation that may not be present in the USA

“He hasn’t put his feet down yet”. This reminds me when I was a member of SAM (Suffolk Advanced Motorcyclists) we often had a “slow race” whereby the winner was the slowest between 2 points without stopping or putting your feet down.

Really good, calm and in control. As Ive already got the silver car, if I get a personalised number with prefix or suffix SEG and look serious I should be able to get about a bit easier?

I like the use of whistles, certainly gets your attention ! I was in Colombo Sri Lanka a few years back and I stopped where I shouldnt, and got the whistle treatment, I soon moved off pretty quick.

To be fair the whistle thing is 100s of years old and still used as a policeman's main tool in many countries.

But why the unbearable music for the second part? Switched off.
    Just some feedback.👍
