@@aucklandguy6362 mostly just surfacing? There is a lot more going on. Think about all the barrier poles that need to be put in. They need to be hammered into the pavement and each one can easily take 10 minutes or more. There are thousands to do as they're usually no more than 2m apart. Thousands of plants, lane marking, sweeping, concreting, drainage, testing and more. Also asphalt doesn't go straight on top of what you see on the left, there was at least 1 more layer of something between. Probably just the chipseal layer but could be another. I did a survey on it in it's earlier days up the northern end where they were doing tests but haven't been on it since.
@@CreedBrattonTheOffice yeah I get there's more to it. But a year to do that ? Fuck no unless it's just one person doing the whole thing. They're milking ratepayers with unnecessarily stand-around man hours per usual, no question.
@@aucklandguy6362 Sure we all know kiwi construction is a bit on the slow side compared to many countries, but a lot is not always due to the construction itself but the red tape and QA checks the government require for new builds. Takes a while to do all of that. They do definitely need to have more people working at same time though. Is annoying to see just a couple people doing something that takes ages instead of teams of people that can get it done much quicker. Weather is another thing though that we have to factor. We have very unpredictable weather in this country (just see whats been going on recently. Yesterday in Hamilton we had cloudless beautiful morning, then severe thunderstorms and flooding mid arvo, then nice and calm/clear in the evening). Lot's of construction stuff, especially in roading can't be done if it's wet, which Dome Valley area in this case gets a lot of.
@@ethandutoit Eventual plan is for it to continue on, and this one's motorway end will be just a big offramp for Warkworth. But who knows when it'll be continued, it's on politicians rather than NZTA.
I agree it will be a real bottle neck particularly during holidays. As part of the upgrade they have removed both the north and south bound uphill passing lanes going over the hill in and out of the Dome valley, how stupid is that. The trucks really struggle over this hill and now they can get out of the way. The only good news is that finally this week the road is back up to 80kph
@@davedriver248 my guess is that they'll switch it to two lanes, the tunnel is wide enough for it, just requires new paint and to remove the hit sticks.
Great to see it nearly finished. Has anyone driven the Warkworth to Matakana road how is the state of that its like a roller coaster in some parts and it needs a complete rebuild in the worst area’s me thinks.

A year ago most of the base course was down, it appears that it has been very slow progress over the last year and we still have another frustrating 5 months at least until we can get on it.
Looking good - keep up the great work, love the flyovers
Bit off topic, but look how green the grass is compared to last year…
Seems like the only major difference. 1 year for mostly just surfacing ?

Looking great. . . now just need to extend it from the SH5 / SH1 junction near Tirau up to Whangarei
looking Great, Well done!
when this is finally opened, the bottleneck is then going to be the dome valley
Indeed - seems the motorway ends at a roundabout and merges into one lane

The bottle neck for me will be the Tunnel Northbound,

Once this opens, State highway one will be about 220 km of 4 or more lanes from Cambridge to Warkworth.
Awesome. Will make the drive north safer and quicker.
Looks good. What was the approx cost per kilometer?

May 2023 open?
😢 why is it long time? It sounds ok to be opened…
whoa mind blown. I was wondering why the road to orewa looked so different

Sure as hell taken a long time Far North to Auckland 🙄
It is terrible there isn't one lane open to cars only for the Xmas holidays. When they are that close...
Why call it Ara Tuhono? Isn't it State Highway 1? It just doesn't make sense.
That is a terribly bad sound track you play, with the "BANG, BANG, BANG, BANG...." noise. It really is NOISE. It is not desirable music.
