So what does the test reveal? It shows that no matter what fertilizer you use, if the grass doesn't want to use the nutrients provided it's not going to. In this case I'm 99% sure it was too soon for my area to be fertilizing, and the lawn was using up the nutrients it stored last fall. It was an interesting test for sure!

I’m glad you clarified that. To me unless a manufacturer is lying about the guaranteed analysis on their label (and I don’t believe they do) then results speak to what your specific lawn is deficient in, or alternatively what your lawn specifically can’t use because it’s bound up or unavailable due to some other factor

I've watched a lot of Doc's videos over the last couple years and I've come to the conclusion that he is an infomercial host. I'm not going to hate on him for trying to make money but that's all he cares about, its glaringly obvious. This super juice garbage is pure overpriced snake oil. He makes it look super innovative but the reality is he probably sources all the stuff that goes in there super cheap and bags it and gave it a fancy name and wants you to pay a premium for it. It will not improve your lawn, it will not improve anything, its garbage. A regular feeding program with cheap fertilizer gets the same results, with or without super juice. Mulch your clippings, mulch your leaves, topdress with compost, those are all infinitely more beneficial than that crap.

I wasn't expecting much either. It does have a lot of micros which is good, but the claims on the sales page are too high. Sorry to add to my already ranting post, but do any of you realize how unproven humic acid on lawns is? You have to stop listening to these lawntubers, who will defend it til their last breath. Look for actual, unbiased sources for evidence that humic acid has little if any benefit to turfgrass. The only research I've actually found was done by a university turf program, and the results were basically inconclusive. They said it probably does nothing, and might help a little with the heat and drought stress resistance, and that was a very big MIGHT. It wasn't too enthusiastic about that claim. You have to realize why this product is being pushed, the fertilizer market is controlled by multibillion dollar corporations, in other words the market is cornered. They're trying to sell you something that you can't get at the big box store and make you believe that its the secret that will unlock your lawns potential. People have to get smarter.

It's not about the health of your lawn, it's about what's in (or not in) your soil. Test your soil and choose your product to provide what the soil is deficient in (if anything). A fertiizer can be very effective before either growing season, but only if it is providing things your grass needs that aren't already in the soil. If you fertilize regularly, it doesn't surprise me that you're not seeing a big difference, because your soil probably has everything the grass can use for at least part of the growing season. There's a better chance you may see a difference near the end of the season, or it might even take until the fall season, or even next year, but rest assured, the grass will deplete the nitrogen and later the other nutrients, unless they are replaced. If you bag your clippings, the grass will deplete the soil much faster. If you mulch, you probably one need one fert treatment a year. If you bag, two is better. But you won't know if you don't test the soil.

    • @GrassDaddy
      @GrassDaddy  3 роки тому

Drop spreaders work different than rotory. The reason you overlap is for even coverage since it's flinging it out. With a drop spreader it's precise where you put it. That's why most people don't use them because they will leave stripes of fert / no fert.

My feedback is this. You saw Scott’s did make a difference at the 3 week recording, with a close follow up by Carbon X. At the same time Scott’s was on the lowest, and it looks like the drainage point of that yard. So excellent fertilizer, with most moisture for the grass to take advantage of? I’d say this wasn’t exactly the best controlled test to make a call. What if Milorganite were where you put the scotts? Would it have made a difference? Maybe? Who knows. Great video though! I see what you’re trying to do. Just hard without multiple data sets spread out across multiple lawns.

  • @jasonfournier

The Milorganite is slow release and requires heat to breakdown. It is not a good fertilizer for your first application of the spring. I usually put a starter fertilizer down in the spring and get a big pop of green and thickening. I can really tell the difference where I have too much overlap and the extra fertilizer gives real thick dark bands. None of the liquids provide much nitrogen per application. It is not possible to get down .72 to 1 lbs of Nitrogen per 1000 sqft with just a few gallons of any of the brands at the rates they suggest. You need to do weekly applications of those and will pay through the nose. I just did my second application and used Carbon X. Compared to my neighbors, my grass is on another level of green and I just want to keep it going. I expect a growth spurt and will then use the T-Nex Growth regulator to control the growth and promote root growth before the heat and droughts hit.

You should be able to use super juice all summer long. It appears to be the same as greene County N-ext 0-0-2 product. It can also supplement during times when your not pushing your yard during non growth periods.
Super juice is more of a soil amendment and needs to have multiple apps to build it up in the soil.

  • @joshuab738

Nice test! When I lived in the North, I noticed that it did not really matter what I put down (I use to put down milo, a local liquid compost, or scotts.... whatever, I was in the mood for). Fall was way more important. However, no matter what you use really only matters long term (even fast release). If you have a yard you have been taking care of, the lawn isn't going to go crazy with one app different or even missed. If you never put anything down, it will show up a lot faster. I am learning this isn't as true in warm season Bermuda. To the left of me, my neighbor uses a service that uses liquid urea. To the right of me, my neighbor uses generic weed-and-feed. I use milo and Carbon X. My Bermuda is way more blue-green. Right neighbor burns out (I warned him about the weed-and-feed). Left neighbor looks healthy as mine, but not as think as my turf. Long story short: save your money. Super expensive ferts don't matter as long as they have the right NPK and maybe so micros sometimes. (PS, I have no faith in super juice. I watch doc because he does have some nice hints at times. However, I personally hate liquid and don't want to be in my yard every week spoon feeding liquid.... I do have a life.)

Do yourself and get a soil test. Your Phos levels will sky rocket. I did my first soil test after using milo for 2
seaons and needless to say I have 4 bags of milo and 1 bad of PGF complete that I hope use next year. Let a soil test determine what your fert plan should be. Will save time and money in the long run.

XGRN 8-1-8 from Carbon Earth company is my favorite fertilizer so far. Very small prills and easy to spoon feed.

How often do you spoon feed your lawn?

That's sh*ts expensive. It costs 40 dollars to do a 5k sq foot lawn putting down .5 lbs of N per 1k.

I use cx in my front and random stuff in my back
Definitely prefer the lower rate app for CX and it’s analysis
It’s cheaper than most things out there and has RGS and some amendments

I don’t believe that it has RGS anymore. That partnership with Greene County Fertilizer ended last year. It now has peptides.
