First, I greatly enjoy and benefit from your videos, thank you. I was curious if you have ever had to deal with moles. I'm in ohio and backed up to a small nature preserve. I have a fantastic trap, but I can only set it after I notice activity. In one day, one mole can completely ruin a sizable stretch of land. Any experience with moles? Thanks

I’m a golf course superintendent, I love to watch these videos. I take very little care of my yard cause I do it all day work lol. I spray weeds that’s it. First thing I noticed is you have a great spreader, expensive but worth it in taller grass makes pushing it much easier. Second Anderson’s makes really good fertilizer products, although expensive too, you could do a soil test and literally find a product Anderson’s makes that would take care of your soil problems.

I'm a man. I'm here because my goal is to make the grass of the house I own look as nice as possible. After spending so much time thinking, buying things and doing the work to make the grass look nicer my plan is to go outside and look at the grass. Sometimes i'll have people over and they'll see the grass, then say "that grass looks real nice." Then i'll say "thanks, it was a lot of work."

Three times a season for me. May 1, July or August, depending on how dry it’s s been, and November after last mowing. Also, not bagging really helps to fertilize. The clippings become fertilizer. I mow every 4 days at 3 1/2 inches. My lawn is 99.9% grass and beautiful

We purchased a home with 2 year old kbg sod that was in rough shape, with many large stones underneath in hard clay, brown stripes with bare spots running the length of the property. We did something like: aggressive dethatching, digging up stones, shampooing and aerating, a dose of PGF right before doing a light soil top dressing and leveling, then a mix of milorganite and chicken feed. After getting after it for 4 months, we have the healthiest lawn, and it feels good to walk barefoot in our yard finally. Thank you for all your hard work.

The video is good. I no longer use Scotts for the same reasons you mentioned. However, while The Andersons PFG Complete is probably "the best", there is no way it is "affordable" for the average homeowner. Currently, it runs around $37/5K sqft bag. For example, I need about 12K sqft so that would be over 2 bags or around $85 worth per application. I will stick with lawn fertilizers from Rural King or Menards, typically between $28 - $32 for 15K sqft bags.

    • @bradjones2480
      @bradjones2480 Рік тому +1

Larry, I am not even familiar with Anderson but I do know ferts and turf and when someone starts talking about "a bag for so many sqft", the reality is you probably need a bit more education in fertilizers. Did you know there are different forms of Nitrogen used in ferts? And that can affect things like PH. Slow release cost more, always will! It is also both a money saver and time saver. We apply only 2 apps/yr.

I’m so sorry about your wife! I know how this is and the financial burden health challenges bring with them!
I’ve been watching you tube for a while on brain health because my grown son has had some major brain traumas and now mold toxicity plus a tick borne infection. We learned all this through my research, taking him to the correct doctors who look for the root cause, and my person experience with toxicity. a doctor who is also a functional medicine practitioner and certified mold specialist. The functional labs they have are almost miraculous, with exact measurements of what the body is carrying. We also did his DNA. I’m digressing, but they have found the reason for Alzheimer’s… toxins.
If you search, you can find some information on reversing Alzheimer’s. I’m not talking about wacky stuff here.
This method us the cutting edge if medicine and if you can cut down in one any toxins in your life now, she could possibly be better.
I just thought I’d give you some advice from what I’ve learned after having a toxin overload for 15 years. I won’t go into gory details, but I had to change my life around and get out of the condo I lived in that had hidden mold, start eating a clean, almost Keto diet, and getting as much clean air as possible. Water filters are a must as well. I was literally in the verge of death, and this saved my life!
This is immensely helping our son who declined rapidly into psychosis and paranoid schizophrenia with severe dimensia, after attempting suicide. He was living with his father in a home with mold everywhere, and when he came to stay with me, I could tell he had all the symptoms of being neurologically and psychologically ill. After about a year of being in and out of hospitals, my helping him with what I’d learned myself, because I now think my goal is to help others in learning about this tragic problem that is affecting our population.
Our dentist had to stop practicing because he developed Alzheimer’s from mercury toxicity. He has now passed away.
Please look into this, because the doctors don’t mention this… naturopaths, functional medicine practitioners, and integrative health doctors can help and reverse Alzheimer’s. Of course, I don’t know your circumstances, but I had developed severe cognitive issues and had to retire from my teaching career.
I didn’t mean to write all this; I just wanted to say I am sorry about your wife, because it hits home.
I wish you the best, and will pray for you and your wife! 🙏💫
All this from watching a fertilizer channel! I hope I’m not offending you.

I'm so glad you put out this video. Keep it simple. I'm so burned out of all the people pushing all the Humic products like they are the best thing since sliced bread... they aren't. Does Humic Acid work? Maybe a little bit... but nothing what these companies are claiming. I put it out on my yard for 3 years in conjunction with my standard fertilizing program and my yard was no different than before and my yard is really, really nice. I just don't see how more people aren't realizing it??? Again great video!

    • @SilverCymbal
      @SilverCymbal  3 роки тому +7

Well said. Keep it simple is best. I have no issues adding extra elements like Humic Acid & like Sea Kelp a lot but I do them separately when I want to. The base fertilizer is the MOST important part of your lawn and if you keep that going without anything else you will be ahead of the game. It costs a lot of money to take a lawn that is 90% good and get to 100% and some people want that but most of us don't and love a 90% perfect lawn and it looks great without being a burden.

    • @SilverCymbal

I agree, the Anderson's products are excellent. I live in northern Lousiana and use The Anderson's pre-emergent with NO nitrogen, and their post-emergent WITH nitrogen and that alone seems to be almost enough fertilzer. I put each down twice a year at absolute max rate in the spring, and middle rate in the fall, and have great results. Once or twice a year I add something else like a lower nitrogen granular, or spray a Greene County liquid fertilizer product (low nitrogen like Flora Greene, or Greene Effect) again at max rate.

Scotts and other brands that cover 15,000 sq ft there's some left over. Anderson's didn't make it halfway. It covered front and one side to the back of my home and nothing for the left side and back yard. Two bags of this stuff will not cover my front and back. Hey people, fescue WILL lighten up as the temps climb,it's the nature of the grass, not a lack of fertilizer. The only time I fertilize is in the fall when it starts to cool down. I try and hit it in late Sept and then hit it strong in Nov-Dec. Your yard will be green as can be when it wakes up in spring with zero need for fertilizer. IF you over seeded in the fall I would recommend a light spring fertilizing but otherwise not.

    Clumpy fertilizer?
1). Be picky as to what you pull from the big box pallet. If the bag feels like a brick, Fidel a different pallet of ask for a new pallet to pick from.
2). Drop the bag on your driveway multiple times and multiple sides to break the contents into pourable material.
3). Buy a small section of 1/2 inch galvanized chicken wire of sufficient size to fit over your spreader when pouring. Anything of size will not go through the wire and can easily be crumpled by hand to pass through the wire.

I've got a shaded area that just won't grow any grass. I've tried multiple blends , shade mixes and ziltch. The patch seems to be growing
larger every year too. I've had sod brought in and "professional" nettings with the seeds in them ...still nothing. I'm tired of dumping
$2 grand in everytime they say they'll fix the area.
I aerate in the spring and summer, don't have thatch...but the soil is only about 2.5 to 3.0 inches of soil and then it's clay underneath.
It's also on the bottom of a small hill (less than a foot from the rest of the yard) and I find that most seeds will accumulate in bunches
    after the first rain.
I'm at my wits end . This year I'm going to just try to continually seed it. With aerating (liquid...which I've never used) hoping the soil stays
loose enough for the seeds to bury themselves) I mean seed it every 7 days and keep with the same watering schedule (3 times /week)
that has the rest of my yard looking strong and healthy...that I've done for the last 25 years.
Any advice on a situation like this ?

They shed like mad too....maybe that breaking down (onto my side) is preventing the soil from being rich enough to grow seed ?) I dunno.
It's been 2 weeks since my first seed (decided to reseed every 3 weeks instead of 3) and I'm not seeing much growth.
Might be time to just put in a few trucks worth of dirt and resod.
