Who could downvote this? It’s the best cover I’ve ever heard of this song. Been listening to it for over a decade and never gets old. Maybe even better than the original.
Maybe try Swedish band Bob Hund's version 'Ett fall och en lösning' ('A case and a solution'). They also have a live version. Seems more inspired than the Peter Murphy/Trent Reznor/Tunde Adebimpe performance here (I was really hoping Trent Reznor would have added a vintage synthesizer), but still nowhere as good as Pere Ubu's 1976 single.
At different points this song is angry, haunting, beautiful and terribly sad. I wish I could find Pere Ubu performing this live in the 1970s. That said, this is truly wonderful.
Rocket from the Tombs first recorded the song on July 24 1975 (with Peter Laughner on vocals) and it's included on "The Day The Earth Met The Rocket From The Tombs". It is also available on the following period Pere Ubu live recordings: "Taking Shape - 76" (recorded at The Mistake, Cleveland OH on April 7 1976, or May 5 1976); "Manhattan 1977" (recorded at Max's Kansas City on February 25 1977); "In The Shadow Of The Aeronautical Shot Peening Company" (recorded at Pirate's Cove, Cleveland, Ohio on June 2 1977). 'Final Solution' was recorded for Pere Ubu's second single between February 26 and March 8 1976 and released as Hearpen HR102 in April 1976 with Dave Taylor on EML ElectroComp synthesizer and Ace-Tone organ. Allen Ravenstine briefly left Pere Ubu between November 1975-May 1976 as he did not want to tour, but rejoined after seeing several Pere Ubu performances. He heard a performance, demo or rough mix of 'Final Solution' and suggested the sound after the lyric 'guitar's gonna sound like a nuclear destruction' at 2m26s should be a vacuum, instead of an explosive sound Dave Taylor planned to use.
You might care to give Swedish band Bob Hund's cover version 'Ett fall och en lösning' ('A case and a solution') a chance. You can also find several live versions. Still, not as inspired as Pere Ubu's 1976 single.
Trent Reznor, Peter Murphy and TV On The Radio in one band and they manage to make 'Final Solution' sound like a pop song. This performance clearly shows how hard it is to come near Pere Ubu's brilliance.
Every single song on here is awesome! Huge talent from different genre's on stage,, Peter has an amazing voice! anyone who says different is just a plain Moron.. Trent brings a N.I.N's feel to all the songs,, and TV On The Radio is talented in there own right. Id say Bella Lugosi is my fav. from this, that Ive found, Wish I was there! Or could at least see the whole recording..
Saw Peter do this live in the 80s (he grabbed a stagelight by the cord and helicoptered that thing around and around and around and around) and finally in the early 2000s got to see Pere Ubu burn it down to the f&%$ing ground!

+Alexander Webster Not on "this" stage, I'm talking about him in general. Peter Murphy is a legend. Saying that Peter's amazing would be a serious understatement.
Actually, I think David Thomas of the Ohio Band "Rock from the Tombs" wrote the song and, it was released in 1976. It was later covered by Thomas's next band, Pere Ubu. Murphy only covered the song and, it was apparently a hit for him.
hey does anyone know if this is put on cd for fans to have, I would love to have this. If not trent & Peter would have a hell of a cd, they are a great combo...
Does anyone know if these have ever been released on an album/mp3/whatever? I keep finding myself coming back here to listen to all these but would love to be able to add them to my music library.
I don't want to open the whole "worst crowd in the world" can of worms, but I saw some harrowing footage of a group of insane, brainwashed zealots cheering as a defenceless woman had rocks lobbed at her for allegedly commiting adultery. Anyway...this is the video I have watched the most times on youtube.com. Members of three of my favorite bands perform a song by one of my favorite bands. Let's focus on the sheer brilliance of that instead of the audience, eh?
I love the when people make comments about the (lame) crowds in live concert videos. I guess everyone should stage dive, do the wave, pass out, cry, wave flags, jump on peoples shoulders, mosh etc. Just sit there and watch a performance as it is being played. It's not everyday you get to see your favorite band perform. I concentrate on the music. I guarantee I`m enjoying it more than the idiots bouncing around on the floor. If you feel the need to be entertained by people dancing around and going crazy on the floor go to a Madonna concert.
yo beauty dad---what the hell are you talking about!!???Peter Murphy wrote the song for crying out loud!! and every one knows the definitive cover version was done by DC legends RAZZ!!! was d
@@saraivatoledo1842 Yeah I know Pere Ubu and Rocket from the Tombs. I just thought it was a pretty inane comment to make considering that some people are obviously not gonna be familiar with them and there's nothing wrong with that.
I don't feel like this was the best version they ever did. I'm pretty sure I've heard a better one from this lineup. Might could be the Mandela effect.
Who are the black guys?? The man singing the higher notes and the band members are bad ass….sorry but I think Trent and Peter are sucking on this version….how could they possibly NOT KNOW THE WORDS…*facepalm*
Black dudes (and one white) are the TV On The Radio, experimental indie band, great band, you should check out "wolf like me" and "dreams" by them, especially live versions. Class act. Thats why they go so hard here, they were pretty unknown at that point. Dont think Trent and Peter actually paid too much attention to this, they just having fun as successful artists for decades. Btw, what lyrics they forgot? Seems normal to me
What the hell are you rambling about beauty?? Obviously you know not to much about either or the impact both have had on the music industry in one way or another. Why bother watching or making an ignorant comment when you have nothing to base it on other then your poor excuse of opinion.

Trent just sets this song on FIRE when he jumps in.
I love his chorus
fanboy alert lol
True . Great tune. Love it.
It´s always nice seeing a great collaboration, especially when covering a fantastic song.
I knew this would sound awesome. No regrets.

I felt the same. Only a clueless idiot would downvote this.
Not better than Pere Ubu but this is very very good.

This is my favourite thing still on UA-cam
This is a private gig. There was a contest to see them. The album is "Bauhaus radio sessions"

The performance was at Nissan Pavillon, Washington DC on June 13, 2006.

Kool 3-way ('80s/'90s/2000s) collab on this Pere Ubu cover (a sorely underappreciated band)!

Fuckin amazing!! Peter and Trent definitively rock together!!!
I still love this more than a decade later.

Tunde's bari-tenor voice sounds surprisingly similar to David Thomas'.

Who's the guy singing that Peter Murphy grabs at the beginning? He sounds close to Dave Thomas' voice during his verse.
Tunde Adebimpe, who is lead singer of TV on the Radio.

Trent Reznor, Peter Murphy and some black guy.

A great song ruined by a bunch of guys who can't bother remembering the lyrics. These guys are in over their heads trying to cover Pere Ubu.
