Merritts Gondola is the only 8 person gondola operating in Australia and we were super excited to finally get to Thredbo to check it out. Opening to the public in 2020 the lift has had two interesting seasons thanks to the lockdowns, however this season the lift has been running non stop taking riders from the base up to the mid mountain area.
Merritts gondola is the only lift in Australia and New Zealand (possibly the southern hemisphere) where the lift passes under another lift. Starting down at the valley floor means much of the initial ride showcases some of the brilliant plants in and around Thredbo before you watch the scenery transform into a winter wonderland as you cruise into the high alpine.
