The R3 was the first Rivian thing that genuinely has me downright excited for a Rivian product.
Hard agree, I'm coming out of a Chevy Bolt and it looks like a perfect upgrade, I can add all-wheel drive and a front trunk without having to go to a much bigger car that's not going to fit my current space. It'll probably be available by the time I'm ready to replace what I've got.
@@AlRoderick But it will cost 2 times more I guess
@@MrRandomguyTomBut multiple times better than the Bolt.
Yuuuup I'll buy an r3 and buy old inline 4 cars for the track until we cant buy em for 200 bucks
R3 will be an instant classic! ❤️✨🧡
I truly loved how the R3x looks. Beautiful.
R3X is just beautiful
It looks sick man! I wish the delivery dates were much earlier.
I'm going to reserve one as soon as it comes out
I loved the R3!! It reminds me of my father`s car in the 80`s. He had a Fiat 147. It was a very cheap car in Brazil at that time. It was very basic but me and my father liked it very much!
As a midwesterner that has never had an EV, I have to say the frunk always seemed like the perfect place to keep the emergency supplies that take up space in my trunk. I like to always have a bag with a change of clothes as well as some food and water plus whatever fluids I might need for the car (wiper fluid, antifreeze, etc.). Also, in the winter I like to keep a blanket or two plus some gloves and winter hats along with the warmer winter clothes I switch out and a small or collapsible shovel if I have one.
So basically it would allow me to keep my trunk more open by moving all the stuff I change out in my car twice a year to the area that doesn't have as good of loading properties. So its a kind of minor thing that actually has a massive impact on my usable trunk space.
These are the types of irrational thoughts that decide which cars people buy.
R3 1000%. i never have been one to try to buy a new car but if that R3 does 400 miles per range i would trade in my 2008 ford escape in a heartbeat for it. btw my 2008 ford escape gets 365 miles per tank. sooo it will remain to be seen.
Doubt the R3 will do 400 miles. I'd say around 340-ish.
@@makatronI would still trade for it. why? less mechanical parts to replace. i like the car a lot.
@@R1ch4rd74 has to do with battery size, larger battery also means more expensive and heavy vehicle.
I was really looking forward to the R2, but after seeing both up close and personal last week at the Rivian HQ, it’s the R3 I actually want!
My new hot hatch 😎
I have a Golf R, R3X is probably my next car.
I'm on the same boat. Got a golf R and really looking to own that r3x
The R3X is basically a super hatch built for offroad... dare I say Group B rally-like? this car is insanely rad
@@user-rm7kb3il6x Group Battery cars cars need to become a thing. 4 Motor Torque Vectoring doing rally stages. Just as absurd and wild as the o.g. Group B cars and FIA please don't restrict what teams can do with Torque Vectoring.
I can ALREADY see RALLY versions of the R3X with wider body and tire rims.
That one will look insane in post mods.
r3x might be my first ev, i hope the infrastructure arond my area gets better by that time so it works better for renters, but the design has me hooked.
R2 will most likely get delayed (as everything does with Rivian), meaning R3 and R3X are also as they share the R2 platform. By then, they’ll all be using the Tesla network and the Rivian network should be quite a bit further along as well.
R2 aims for 2026 deliveries so expect R3 and R3x no sooner than late 2027
Saw a video showing the scroll wheels. Seems they can dynamicly change between infinite scroll, scroll to max/min stops and variably spaced detents.
I want the r3 it looks great and angular with the retro shape. Love
I pre-ordered the R2 after watching your video.
Wife and I BOTH put our money down for the R2
I did too!
One each?
So two R2?
Anybody can put down $100
$100? you must be rich then :)
I think r3 looks phenomenal. I wish I could have reserved it.
“The Maverick is still a huge truck” is crazy 😂😂
bro when I went to europe, I saw a ford ranger raptor and it looked huge against all the other cars. but the maverick is 1 foot shorter, and 8 inches lower than the NORMAL RANGER, not the raptor version.
like dude thinks anything bigger than a city car is HUGE
Exactly. That is a tiny truck!
Just put the size of a truck in context to normal passenger vehicles: relative to those, it is huge.
@@sparkplugbarrens it doesnt matter. the defining characteristic of a pickup truck is having a bed. while having space for the engine, you literally cant get the vehicle smaller than a certain size while making it comfortable inside and not compromising bed space.
Im not saying its impossible to make the maverick smaller. but it is not a big truck. trucks themselves are by default bigger than cars because you still want to have the seating capacity of a car, with a bed for hauling. you cant just squeeze a pickup to the size of a compact car without making compromises, unless its an ev.
Was gonna say, do they make them any smaller 😂
Loved R3. It is a modern Classic
rx3 looks like a modern Ford Pinto or maybe an AMC Gemlin
That charge port location is driving me insane! Why install NACS and put is where you are guaranteed to block a supercharger
If you park in the street, it's an easy location. If you use current rivian, now u have to back up and current home charger location doesn't need to be changed.
@@AbevlifeIt wouldn't be that hard to fit 2 ports though
Completely agree! This seems to be a recreation of the whole fuel doors/caps location issue all over again. Th NACS standard should include a mandate for the port to be driver's side rear or passenger side front - that way you go head-in or back-in and no extraneous parking spot will be blocked. The passenger side front is probably even better than Tesla's default in that it also would allow for curbside (parking meter type) charging units
@@bosstowndynamics5488 I thought about that also and I wonder what would happen if someone decided to try and use both at the same time
@@rcuadro It's all software controlled, so the easiest solution would be to have the car refuse to open both ports at the same time, and as an extra safety refuse to connect to a second charger while already connected to a first.
R3 looks like the first electric car I’m actually thinking about buying. It would actually be more in my world of msrp and looks super cool and futuristic but also still like a normal car
Getting that r3x looks amazing
I kind of want the whole line up at this point haha. R1T as the work truck, R2 for the family, R3 for the daily driver.
15:55 no, the mavrick is NOT a "huge truck", it's the size of a tesla model x which is not a huge suv. for a truck, its pretty small. not tiny, but definately not HUGE.
when I was in europe, I saw a couple ford rangers driving around. that actually did look "huge" compared to all the other cars on the road. but the maverick is not the size of a ranger, its small. it is 1 foot shorter, and 7 inches lower than a ford ranger. so no even in europe standards its not a huge truck, its just big when comparing it to tiny European city cars. but it is by no means a HUGE TRUCK at all.
The teal R3X with orange highlights and (what I call the Palomino color interior) looks sick (as the young folks say).
Absolutely want the r3 to be my first ev. Awesome little hatch.
R3x is what I’m excited about
R2 for daily for sure, but the R3x makes a compelling case to be an insane hot hatch. Drop the air suspension and maybe putting high performance street tires and drive it like a hoon.
Not a car person, but if that R3 eventually gets to Europe and still looks as good as it does now, I'll get one for sure.
Thank you for bringing rivian into the spotlight 🙏
As a Tesla owner I will absolutely switch to an R2 on two conditions:
-the price remains reasonable
-the company turns a profit. Last thing I want is a car that can’t be fixed down the road or isn’t supported.
They're even building vans for Amazon these days, I'm sure they'll be here to fix the R2.
I’m kinda loving the R3. Right hand drive when? 🥺💀
Really looking forward to the day they begin selling Rivians in Europe. I honestly love the look of these.
I saw an imported one the other day and it looked just like something I can see myself driving. I cannot imagine how much it would cost to import all the way to Finland though. Even importing from Germany costs a fortune.
Hoping they reconsider adding an air suspension option. Can live without a removable speaker or flashlight.
P sure a flash light is way cheaper than air suspension...
It would be VERY nice if they could at least have that speaker as an option
The big issue is they need to build a factory in Georgia for these which is going to cost something like $9Bn to get production started. They don't have that and, given their cash burn rate and current stock price, there is no easy way to get it. I thought about buying some stock the other day but I chickened out.
All manufacturers do that, trick is to look broke on paper for tax reasons.
Steve-O has come a long way 🎉
R3X for me .. What an awesome car. 🚙
The cellphone camera not quite cutting it in the dim hotel lighting
The R2 is in my future for sure, BUT Rivian needs to build a compact truck/ute on that same platform!
love the r3. even more attractive than the teslas. There are a few electric cars that are really attractive. Volvo xc40 recharge, porsche taycan, the teslas.
If you're not choosing a car based on external looks, there are lots of other cars to consider.
There should probably be a prize for most attractive production electric car, and right now I'm saying the R3 probably will get it unless one of the big oems is able to up their game before the r3 gets produced. too expensive for me though.
I agree "timeless silhouette".
I’m pretty much ready to buy anything Rivian is able to produce in RHD and send to Australia. 😊
Can't wait to see the R3 in some rally l8r down the line...
Rather than a Maverick, I think the small form pickup should keep with the retro cues and follow suit more with something like the 80s Toyota SR5.
17:10 its only bigger than a model 3 in the height, by 2 inches. in terms of footprint, its actually much smaller. the model 3 is 186" long and 57" tall, the R3 is 161" long and 59" tall. and the R2 is acrtually narrower than the model y so its safe to say the same for the R3 is narrower than the model 3
so it is actually physically smaller in terms of total area taken up than the model 3. its not even really an suv, or even a compact suv. its literally closer to a vw golf in every dimension than it is to a jeep renogade, or a subaru crosstrek
Love all 3.
Dyson should find a way to licence out their electric car or platform and get it into production. I think it had the potential to compete in the BEV SUV space
I wonder if the wheels are enough controls for a steering wheel
Datsun 210. That’s my dad’s car. Still rolling. Amazing car
The front end looks like a Ford Bronco and the side profile and rear looks like a Jeep. If they price it right, it might sell more than those competitors
Really? The R3 gives me early Range Rover vibes
They can’t afford to sell these priced right
@@TheFury295 I can see some Range Rover design influence as well
@@arethouready true. I heard they are already selling each R1T at a loss. Maybe they can make it up in volume sales with the R2 and R3
It just really reminds me of my old 98 Blazer for some reason.
It doesn't have the same dimensions, but its presence sorts of hits the same.
I really want to get the R2 or the R3X!
I love the look of the R3. Awesome car and a good size even for Europe (please Rivian Europeans love Hatchbacks)
I need that r3 in my life
R3 is as if Rivian and a Mk 1 gti had a baby! Lov it. I want a spare tire on the back...
Was an easy decision for me to preorder the R2
Would preorder, if it was in Australia 😢
Looking at the R3, I am getting some serious Ford Pinto vibes.
I hope Apple invests in Rivian, so they actually survive. Their designs and tech looks awesome. The only alternative to Tesla I'd consider
Disappointed that no one worked in a R2D2 reference!
I’m more excited about the RV than any new EV’s out there other than the Renault 5 ev. Hopefully it comes to USA. With our luck it would go the way of the Honda E.
I really want rivian to survive; not sure if it made more sense to release R3 before R2
Who knew Steve-O works for Rivian now 😮
CEO, he got his act together
Why is it looking like the RR cullinan?
Y'all too young to know that old-school Broncos had those vented rear windows that were manual to open and close.
Good idea to get rid of the Forester before the head gasket blows. (Personal experiences on two Subarus).
R3 is not Model Y size the R2 is. The R3 is around the size of the Bolt EUV.
R3 😍
I can't believe we are talking flashlights for so long and not the charging port longer. Seems like a design flaw for the charging port being on the wrong side. I am also a fan of the speaker.
I thought the same at first, but if mass adoption of electric vehicles will happen charging will likely need to be on the right side so you can charge it when you parallel park on streets.
RJ seems so normal and rational! More pf that please!
It was clear David has had enough of the shenanigans
Car manufacturers try to save pennies on each component, so saving $30 (to not the removable speaker) is a savings.
If the headlights of the R3 were round, it would look retro af and i'd sell everything for it
Then it would look a little TOOO much like a Jeep…lawsuit
@@benprovan Hmm, the rest of the car’s aesthetic may save it from that. Plus the Broncos and new land cruisers have all gone circle headlights with no issues.
@@gideonaggrey27 imagine someone else with same Rivian iconic design light but with a totally different body. Can you see the incoming lawsuit as well?
None of you tow? Boats, trailers, camper?😊
I reserved r2 but I really want r3
I applaud the new cars, but I don't understand why they thought they need to make such a long hood on a purely electrical vehicle - especially the R2, which based on the graph at 10:55, has almost the identical length of hood as the R1 series. Surely some extra cabin space would have been more welcome.
Rivian owners use their frunks and like them kinda big.
Nothing says "we would like an early, free review unit" quite like 3-4 videos about it
Those LED headlights have to be tuned down. It's gonna blind everyone on the road!
Steve-o
After the Fisker review, I just don’t have that same blind trust that I used to have with this channel.
I’m not so fond of Rivian but I really like that R3
R3 looks like old Soviet cars (like Lada Niva) 😂 R2 looks awesome though
They sell the flashlight and charger for like 200)
I would have thought R2T/truck would be Ranger size & not Maverick.
Apple and Rivian should combine and make the Apple Rivian
@@design_actualAmazon already uses Rivian custom made vans.
Can't wait for my R2. Currently trying to convince the wife into an R3X
2-Door R2T please
R2-D2
They won't even bother with niche low volume variants.
R2 and R3 looks solid, but let's see if Rivian will be around in 5 years.... you can't keep a company running selling under 60K vehicles a year.
You guys made too big a deal and took too much time on the Bluetooth speakers. Just bring your own. OMG! - I agree with liking the R3. I like all its looks including the rear light. Others I talked to also like the R3 like as is. Lastly, how much interest do you think you earn on $1,000? I have $10,000 in a saving account and earn less than .10 cents a month. You're not losing a lot of money with your preorder deposit.
Only a third of trucks are ever used to ever actually tow anything apparently. They're more a fashion choice than anything.
I just wish they had CarPlay. I would cancel my Cybertruck order right now.
But Tesla at least has apples apps on their cars.
I’m waiting for the R4
Mini Cooper sized?
That R3X gives the "humble wagon of old" vibes while being able to easily tear up any dirt road and smoke the Model 3 in the quarter mile.... if Rivian delivers their promise.
A model y sized ev not made by Tesla looks like a lot better purchase looks a lot more attractive now that it has access to the Tesla charging network.
No one would consider the Maverick a “huge truck”. Dude is confusing it with something else.
To bad you won't see them till 2026 and even later and got their factory configured. Making a Prototype is easy but manufacturing a car is 100 times harder so good luck Rivian
R2 is the EV that Subaru needed to make, not the lame Solterra.
They weren't build for the Tesla network, but rather for the rivian network
problem is people who buys trucks are not crazy about EVs.
YOU ARE??!!!
How much loss per car built?
