  • ♥ In today's video, I share my newly found love for cold therapy, cold showers, cold swimming and what it was like to attend a Wim Hof Method workshop in Stockholm! I have been getting so many questions about the cold showers I have been taking so it was a no-brainer to make a video about this whole topic and experience. I had so much fun at this workshop. It was challenging and crazy at times, but it left me wanting more. And the results I got immediately afterward were mindblowing. I couldn't believe that my body could change so much literally overnight. I can't wait to see what the future has to offer if I keep this up!

    now I just want a baby yoda in my shirt pocket. *goes to google* ----
    edit: as someone who ADORES scalding hot showers and absolutely cannot stand even the slightest lukewarmness to any body of water (heat it up, please!), the thought of anything cold-water related sounds like the most miserable thing on the planet lol. But I'm glad I got to hear your experience with it.

    Your mom is amazing, I want to be like her when I grow up. I am a huge water baby, obsessed with swimming etc, but I get seizures from being cold and taking a hot shower calms my seizures. I think that water is so therapeutic, it can totally transform the state of a person physically and neurologically. Most of our planet is covered in water for a good reason.

    At my work, a Wim Hof workshop was actually part of the training program one day! An ice bath was set up in the middle of the office space and we all did breathing exercises and went in. I didn't have prior experience and it did hurt to go in, but it was really amazing to have done this

    One thing that I have learn from ballet is that your body gets "used to pain", in a streaching kind of way, so it could be a real physical change that you experienced, in a way that with this cold baths you are more used to pain, feel it less and you can streach your muscles and ligaments more. It is a thing that happens! I am very happy that you are seeing good changes come and I hope it helps you feel better!

    That was a really interessting video! Never heard about that method, but it really makes sense to me! Breathing methods are important to many meditation methods and yoga as well, for a good reason I think. And the cold? Well,I did very much sauna in the past. The most thing I enjoyed was the cold shower and the cold swim afterwards and then walking arround outside naked. I thought about that it was a really good feeling and I felt refreshed and relaxed. Your video inspired me to maybe do some sauna more often again, to work on my idleness to do more often my yoga exercise and maybe to start wirh cold showers. Thank you for that!

Was pretty shitty at it at the beginning and couldn't even hold my breath for more than 30 seconds, but I'm getting better and better at it! What I noticed is it really calms my whole body down. It's time for me to include the cold showers now, which is something I'm absolutely not comfortable with, but seeing your video has motivated me a lot! I've read a study that said that if you end your shower with 30 seconds of cold shower gives you health benefits, longer cold shower doesn't give you anymore health benefits by that studie. I got nauseous after I took showers so I just started ending my shower with a 30 second cold shower and it really helps. I'm not nauseous anymore after a shower and have more energy. I'll definitely look more into the Wim Hof method.

    • @Katrinberndt
      @Katrinberndt  4 роки тому +1

      When comparing research you need to be very careful what you’re referring to. ☺️ Perhaps some benefits end at 30 seconds, perhaps some benefits start at 2 minutes. Perhaps some benefits only appear when the temperature changes from hot to cold, and so on. 😃 But yeah I do recommend looking into the WHM more. It’s fascinating! And cold showers are the best!

    I think pretty much every professional athlete uses cold baths, so there’s definitely benefits! I personally have heart problems, so I first go into a warm shower, then in the end go colder and colder and it does feel very good and refreshing!
    The only thing I wish you did to make this video perfect, put the disclaimer of “check in with your doctor first” sooner and more obvious. I mean it’s your channel and your videos... I just think it should be said right away, before people get excited about such a thing. Coz it’s very serious matter if you have heart/blood pressure problems, many people don’t know they have. For someone who has heart/blood problems it can be life threatening.
    So if you read this, pls, ask your doctor first if you can do that without any risks for your health.

    I started taking some cold-ish showers after working out so I can feel energized afterwards, but I wouldn't turn the water all the way cold, because here in Croatia (maybe in other countries as well) we usually take cold showers to lower a fever, and since I have naturally a lower body temperature (35,8 - 36,7°C) I don't think that would be the best idea for me 😂 but would love to try this method sometime in the future, especially to experience the health benefits

    I have Raynauds syndrome-- whenever I get stressed or come into contact with anything cold (air, a drink can, a tile floor) my veins contract in my hands and feet reducing circulation and turning my extremities white. I wonder if I could safely take a cold shower...I saw someone on the internet claiming it even helped their Raynauds. 🤔

      I don’t know what he has said in the past but all I’ve heard in recent material is that he absolutely does not say it cures cancer or any kind of illness. @@Katrinberndt from very reputable Dutch newspapers :) which I could link but you couldn't read. He has taken conclusions from scientific research that the researchers themselves disputed as unproven and they have warned him not to give false hope to chronically ill patients. It's good to hear he's come back from that if he has taken down those claims and does not support them anymore. I think it's fine to try his method in a controlled environment, but I think it's also important to stay cautious.

    I'm so sceptical to everything like this, but when I see you praising it the way you do.... It kinda makes me want to try. Because you're the kind of zero bullshit factual person that I woulz trust, and you're always honest with your viewers. Do you think it would be beneficial to try it, even though I'm still HELLA sceptical? Or would you have to go into it with a mindset of "Yes, I can't wait to feel the benefits!"?

    • @Katrinberndt
      @Katrinberndt  4 роки тому +1

      I don’t “believe” any of this stuff to be honest. The Wim Hof method is based on science that is actually measurable, but still I’m like naaah it can possibly work haha. But then after seeing the effects on myself I can’t help but believe in the benefits. But you really have to do the three pillars combined. Just the cold showers didn’t do much for me immediately except feeling really nice. 🥶😅 I mean as long as you practice safely and listen to your body you have nothing to lose!
