I just got my S1 last week Nick. They had to scramble to catch up to the LaserMATIC! They'll have to scramble again when the Mark 2 XL comes out! The whole focus gimmick is way too much IMO. I have to say, comparing it to the Mark 2, it looks and feels cheap for the price. Fun video as always!
While I haven’t seen the Mark 2 XL, the surface scanning is no gimmick. It’s a breeze to use and very accurate. Also, the system always knows the current location of the laser, so you can move the laser by hand to easily specify the corners of the area to be processed. As much as I like Nick and I support his Patreon crew, his demonstration of the S1 was very clumsy. You shouldn’t dismiss the S1 until you’ve had a chance to work with it.
You might want to note that if you get the S1 the RA2 that works with the D1does not work with this unless you buy the adapter plug. The RA2 that you get with this has the plug already on it.
It has some cool features but I'll continue with my D1 20w purchase I thing. I will be working mainly with leather and 3mm bass board. P2 down the line but looking for something just to get me off the ground for now. Thanks for the video Nick, always informative and always entertaining. P.S. @@BuildDadBuild I clicked on the US links and they don't work because the $$ amounts are included in the link. Thus, it doesn't work. It works fine if you remove the $$ amounts from the link, but didn't think you'd want users having to do that.
@@BuildDadBuild yeah I can imagine someone with your experience with better lasers will find the flaws in it but for someone like it me I consider it my gateway drug to bigger and better things. I really want a CO2 so I can do all acrylics but funds just aren't there for that right now. Maybe one day it'll happen lol. I enjoy your videos keep up the great work!

Great video, as always. The only comment i didn't like is to put your contact on the spotlight because "he/she doesn't like you." Don't cry out, you get a lot of things for free. Then you get monetized for doing thing with those things so it's a win-win for you. I would never say anything bad of you if you were to gift me a used laser machine.
I think he made a fair statement. If they sent this to him to review, then include the extras that make it stand apart from the competition. It isn't like he's asking for tshirts, coffee mugs and a bourbon glass
I think they might have been low on them. When they sent me the P2, they included the riser base and conveyor and extensions. When they sent the S1 for review, they did not include the conveyor. I don't think it was ready to ship yet. The first one I reviewed was the M1, and they included a ton of materials along with it. I don't really think they are nickle and diming.
Ive owned one for a week, opened 2 support tickets for a hardware issue and have had no response. Two hardware issues actually. I guess that's why we continue to buy from amazon rather than the dealer directly.
I love my S1 so far! I’m still learning the laser craft. Ha I even have the same workbench you have. Great workbench too. I haven’t tried the rotary or the passthrough yet.
Debating between getting the 40watt or the 20watt version for now i dont need to do any mahor cutting and currently running wverything on my d1 10 watt. And thoughts to help me choose?
BTW the EU version will not have the option for pass through, so EU users will be on the bed size only.

Why am most impressed by the handles on the magnetic hold downs!!! I’m making that upgrade tmrw they are a pain w/o them!

I would probably go with the LaserMatic. I haven't used it (actually have one in the box in the shop) but I've heard really good things.
do you think the thunder bolt is that much better in terms of engraving? do you think this competes?
I think they compete. The Bolt looks much more like a professional production machine.
