The BHP is one of the most elegant, effective, reliable, and most copied pistols on earth. It was the last pistol touched by the Master: JMB, Served for decades in over 70 countries. On top of all of that it’s beautiful. I carry pistols of more modern designs now, but not because it was ever necessary. Thanks for the video.
I bought my Browning High Power in 1986 as well. Paid $350 or so for it. Love it and still have it. Had it tuned up at Terry Tussey to clean up the trigger, new sights, delete the mag disconnect, then a few years ago, I had it Cerakoted. Late last year i finally got the SA 35. Got a set of Lok Ridgeback, palm swell grips. Fits exactly. Pachmayr used to make rubber bumper pads for BHP magazines. So I pulled the base pads off my old BHP mags, and swapped them onto the SA35 magazines so I have bumper pads. The trigger wasn't bad but a bit creepy. I took it in to a local Smith and had him clean it up and make it crisp. Came back fabulous. It's a bit heavy at 5.5 pounds, but that's about all you can expect with the complex linkage on the BHP design. My BHP Mark III uses a 2 piece barrel whole the SA uses a one piece forged barrel. Th3 BHP also has a firing pin block. The SA does not. The SA frame shoulders that channel the feed ramp had been filed back to enhance feeing reliability. I had to use a Dremel took to grind off the shoulder corners on each side of the feed ramp to allow the hollowpoint feed ramp.
I like your finish. My Springfield SA-35 is parkerized. I bought mine 6/2024 new and it came with a a pistol bag, range bag and four magazines. Mine was $736 take home. Very pleased so far. Great video.
After seeing the serial number on this SA35, I can confirm that this is my old SA35. I had it worked on, and the finish redone by BHSpringSolutions, as it was an unreliable trainwreck from the factory. I sold it because I had problems with both this SA35 and my Garrison, and after that I wanted to be done with Springfield as a company. I am glad to see that Young Beretta was able to pick it up, and I hope that he enjoys it.
Hey, we appreciate the comment man! I bought your sa35 as a range toy so it’ll be fun to just experience the “hi power”. I also bought a Tisas Regent BR9SS, should be fun to compare it to the Springfield. Ps, sorry to hear you had issues with both of your Springfield products. Was your Garrison a 9mm or 45 version? - YB
I own one as well in the earlier serial number. BH Springs had a reliability kit that fixed the issues i began to have (I also used a jewelers file to clean up the extractor channel). Runs great now.
@@TheAardvark211When I sent it to BHSpringSolutions for them to get it working, they had to de-bur the entire frame, guide rails, and extractor channel. I owned a BHP, made in1975. I had it refinished in master blue from Ford's refinishing of Florida and after, it was so nice, I did not want to shoot it, and mar the perfect glossy bluing. Eventually sold it last year for close to 2k dollars. Thinking bout a new shooter grade from Springfield Armory. Thanks for the review!
Currently looking at one of these. My understanding is the earlier models had issues with extraction, etc. SA has resolved those, allegedly. The price he paid is on par with retail but I think he got a good deal, Given the price of those magazines. $30 to $50 each, retail. Back in '91 to '94 I did collections for a rent to own company. Ma and Pa outfit. I worked every weekend for 4 years. Middle of my last semester in college The owners, nice older couple, were in the middle of a debate on concealed carry. The wife of the duo did not believed it was possible to carry a handgun without notice. I reminded her of how long I had worked for her then pealed back my light jacket to reveal the HP Practical I carried in a shoulder holster the entire time I had worked for her. She was surprised.
Considering the work done that the previous owner mentioned, and the amount of mags you got, this was a fair price. The grips look sharp. Let us know how it shoots.
Thank you for your excellent video. I had one ordered thru springfield with military discount for under $600. Waited and waited many months, came across a 2023 FN High Power and I purchased for below msrp. Installed fn g-10 grips, lok grips not available. Installed a front night sight and have sent probably 800 rounds down range with no issues. It is the only fn that I own. Cancelled the springfield sa 35 order.
Excellent Sir! Sounds like you got a very good pistols there. I really hope this is a Great Shooter for Young Beretta. Our Best To You. 👨🏻🚀👍🇺🇸 Beretta Sr.
Great review. I did notice that the slide release on yours is an aftermarket part (RDIH extended slide release), not the original Springfield uses. Also, it looks like the pistol has been refinished in Cerakote or something similar. The original Springfield finish is more of a dull or flat blue finish, and yours looks black, with slight texture you would see on a sprayed on finish. I have the SA-35, and it has been flawless with almost 1400 rounds through it. Nice pistol, enjoy!
Yes! This Springfield SA-35 is Very hard to get your hands on for sure, even in May 2023. Enjoy the Video & we appreciate the “Thumbs Up” if you have the time. Respectfully, B9USA Sr.
I have two SA-35’s and love them both. The serial numbers are sequential and in the 18XXX range. I only shoot one and it’s never had the “bugs” that the earlier models with serial numbers less than 10XXX had. I see this gun in the video has an extremely low serial number. So unless the original owner fixed the feeding and extraction “bugs” in the gun, young Beretta might experience them too. Never fear however! Send the gun to either BH Spring Solutions in Indiana or to mk3 Firearms in Las Vegas. Both specialize in custom work for Browning Hi-Powers and Springfield SA-35’s! The issue was Springfield’s rotten extractor and failure to polish/de-burr the inside of the extractor channel on earlier models. Also either BH Spring solution’s CNC extractor or Cylinder & Slide’s tool steel extractor will solve the reliability issues. But I would definitely have a smith polish the inside of the extractor channel first. Just my own opinions. Also, I agree with another poster that the finish on that SA-35 is NOT factory original. They removed the phosphate or parkerizing finish from the Springfield factory.

My SA-35 has been great. In fact I seem to have excellent experience w all the Springfield armory handguns I’ve owned over the years, from the HS produkt striker guns to their 1911’s.
I like the work BHSpringSolutions did on the gun. Looks like it's worth every penny Young Beretta paid for it. After shooting the new FN High Power side-by-side with a 1983 Browning Hi-Power, I'm looking forward to picking up the SA-35. The new FN isn't at all true to the Hi-Power name.
Picked a new one up from Scheel's. Love it. Utterly reliable. Only thing I don't like about it is im getting alot frame bite from the beavertail. I ride the safety. Taking it to my gunsmith to have it rounded a little.

Well wishes on your recovery from "the plague" and delighted that you have the SA35 for review. Congratulations on such a splendid discovery. You have a superb sense of the "reset" on the trigger and on the BHP if you check it out with only the fame, slide off, looking down into the trigger well you will 'see' what you felt and so aptly described. BTW, did you have an extra slide stop? The one on the gun is the upgraded Cylinder & Slide version for their SFS set up. I noticed the tiny logo on the front by the pin. Disassembly with that can be accomplished by a shortcut without locking the slide back, just pushing out hard on the pin head on the right of the frame disengages it from the locking cutout on the slide stop pin. For more info on this and other sidearms consult the late Steve Camp 's Texas Ranger book of essays about High Powers and the many sidearms he had extensive experience with. There is an insight about those 15 round magazines from MecGar, as good as they are there is a caveat of his and he recommended the original 13 round ones for extra reliability. Looking forward to your upcoming presentations.

Purchased mine back in Nov. 2022 and paid over MSRP. Very disappointed with it’s fit and finish but maybe my expectations were too high? Will keep it, but it certainly isn’t my most prized pistol in my collection.
Mine has a 3lb 12oz trigger out of the box. I don’t care for the sights or the trigger reset. I wish the safety had a more definite feel to it. But ergonomics are terrific & very accurate!

@@BERETTA9mmUSA absolutely, I have a lot of Springfield Armory pistols and rifles. I love their products for the quality and affordability. I've had zero issues with any of mine.
I wasn't very happy, in terms of accuracy, testing a new copy, SN around 14,000, if I'm not mistaken. Even at 10m. I tested about 50 rounds of reloaded ammunition, it worked perfectly, but the accuracy disappointed me. I'll test it later with it supported. My biggest practice is with strike-fire pistols. Suddenly I'm the one who's wavering, but my fear is that the finish on the barrel crown isn't perfect (just a suspicion).
As I'm not a fan of the High-power the quality just is very apparent in the Spring Field. And to own an original Browning HP would be cool. Looking forward to a review of the new Wilson 1911 on the range 🤜🤛🇺🇸💀💪
Nice pistol, excellent overview... I prefer my Girsan MC P35 version. Grips and finish remind me more of BHP Mark II/III from the 1980s and 1990s. I don't mind the magazine disconnect on the Girsan and a bit worse trigger as a consequence.
Thanks very much Sir! I have never seen or handled one of those either. Thanks very much for sharing about it, and I always appreciate the “Thumbs Up” on our videos if you can. Stay Safe out there. Respectfully, B9USA Sr.
1) Feel better. I hope the side effects from a 2nd round of C19 were minimal and short lasting. 2) I look forward to you two taking this to the range and seeing your opinions and observations of shooting it. 3) Could this be a concealed carry defensive piece? Is it a fully supported barrel? Would something like Speer GD 124 gr +P ammo be a safe round to carry for "social business?" Or do you feel this is strictly a range tool? Please keep up the great work and enjoy your retirement.
Hi Rick. I think it was fully supported. I would like to see if Springfield Armory says +P is OK. On “Carry” If I could tighten up that safety a bit, I think EDC would be just fine. B9USA

I don't believe Springfield Armory was going for a true replica of the renown Browning Hi-Power. They did a great job with it and I love mine.
Thank-you for the owner comment. We appreciate you taking the time to watch & for the “Thumbs Up” We appreciate it. Stay safe out there and enjoy your Springfield Armory SA-35.

@@BERETTA9mmUSA absolutely, I have a lot of Springfield Armory pistols and rifles. I love their products for the quality and affordability. I've had zero issues with any of mine.
A local range had one and I shot it better than my own carry piece!
Hello from Israel sir🎉
Hi my friend! I hope you are well.
B9USA Sr.
Thanks for the information Sir. 😎👍🇺🇸. B9USA Sr.
He paid toooooo much. Picked mine up for $700 and my BHP in 1989 for $400.
He has no car payment so he is fine with it. LOL!
Sweet
As I'm not a fan of the High-power the quality just is very apparent in the Spring Field. And to own an original Browning HP would be cool. Looking forward to a review of the new Wilson 1911 on the range 🤜🤛🇺🇸💀💪
Thanks my friend! 👨🏻🚀👍🇺🇸💥💥
@@BERETTA9mmUSA And I'm sorry to hear of your C19 , I hoping for a fast recovery for you , Stay Strong friend 💪
@@BERETTA9mmUSA You definitely earned the Thumbs Up from me... Hope you and Jr enjoy the SA35, look forward to future updates!
What's the finish on this SA-35? They come with a matte finish but this looks more like a traditional hot salt bluing.
This was purchased used from a guy who customized it…. Plus 5 magazines.
B9USA Sr.
awesome handgun 😍
Thank-you! B9USA Sr.
B9USA
Nice pick up
Man, I was hoping you guys would go over the SA-35.
Thank you for the great review!
Also really nice it came with
extra mags.
Thanks my friend! I appreciate you watching and giving us the “Thumbs Up.” Every little bit helps us keep the lights on. 😎. Stay Safe.
Beretta Sr.
I hope you are on the mend. Looks like YB got a really good deal on that pistol. My jaw dropped when I saw all those mags! 👍👍
I like that I presented it that way! LOL! It is not easy to come up with a slightly new way to present the products week after week. I am liking my New Job of “Presenter of Detailed Tabletops for the Gun Channels.”Or at least the best I can.😎 I try to cover what I think is important with a bit of personality. Trying to educate the new shooters about single action pistols at the same time on this video. We have a few videos that are gonna be 23 minutes or slightly more coming up. Thanks for the comments and the “Thumbs Up” my friend.
Respectfully, B9USA Sr. 👨🏻🚀👍🇺🇸
Do you guys own any Ed Brown offerings?
Great question, but no. We just never purchased one, and no T&E models from Ed Brown to date.
We appreciate you watching & sending us a “Thumbs Up.” B9USA
Informative video…I believe you would be a great paid speaker at events.
I always appreciate your comments Sir! My Best to you & your family.
I tried my best on this New Springfield Armory SA35. It was kinda great that I owned a Browning High Power. My old HP looks allot like this New SA35 that I owned in 1986 and 1987.
So I had a bit of life experience which helped a little. Thanks so much for watching and for the “Thumbs Up” it all helps our Channel grow. Respectfully, Beretta Sr.
It looks great! Congrats to Jr. Take care of yourself. 👍👍👍👍
Thanks very much Sir! We are all back to almost 100% . I appreciate your comment and the “Thumbs Up.”
As you know every little bit helps the Channel. Respectfully, Beretta Sr.
Does dry-firing harm the SA-35?
Not that I have been told or seen.
Young Beretta could have gotten it new at Bud's for $799 + tax. Granted that has one mag(Springfield is being cheap).
Good review now go buy one.
It probably shoots combat and not 6:00 even worse it shoots an inch higher than a traditional combat sight and you can't get target sights
Walnut
King?
$899 for a used one. No thanks!
Good thing it was Young Beretta who has 6 or 7 Expensive Pistols. ($3,500 Custom 1911 Pistols) He feels like he got a good deal on this one. With the Extra Magazines and the Custom Finish & performance parts maybe he did OK.
Thanks for watching as always. Respectfully, Beretta9MMUSA Sr.
The gun itself is what, $699- 799? He got an SA-35 with an aftermarket slide release, looks like it was refinished, and what, 6 mags that normally cost about $35 each? He got more than what he paid for.
@@SRVNORMANDY Thank-you!
Beretta9MMUSA Sr.
Looks way better with the grits you put on
Thank-You! We both agree. LOK Grips#1
Respectfully, B9USA Sr.
The slide and frame looks refinished. The original finish of the SA35 looks like a rougher grayish parkerization
Agreed, it appears so. B9USA Sr.
