People still listen to Bach and Beethoven many years after their music was written. When I first heard Steely Dan, more decades ago than I care to remember, I thought in hundreds of years people will still be listening to Steely Dan their songs are now and future classics. You can listen casually and they just sound like "pop" songs albeit funky, jazzy, bluesy, R & B, soulful pop songs but they go pretty deep if you listen closely and they never pale or grow boring. Every time you got a new SD LP you'd play side one, play side two then turn it over and play side one again - repeat until bed time!
☺️ I wore this 45' out. AJA was the Album we all did 8th grade Homework to. Peg was the song you got up to dance to in the middle of doing a Math problem. 😂 Gosh, this brings back memories. Fan favorite during Greatest Hits Nights at the Beacon. 🤗 Also AJA night. 🤯 Hoping for some Rush reactions soons. 😆 You'll be stopping every 5 seconds with those 3 geniuses and 😏 Rush fans will be there for ALL of it .... 🤷🏿♀️ Cause we're a bunch of Geeks who grew up on this Music who get thrills watching you guys. 🥰🐰
Interesting note about the Jay Graydon guitar solo. Six other guitarists submitted contributions, including Robben Ford and Larry Carlton. I haven't heard the others, but I'd say he nailed it!
That was Steve khan on rhythm and sliding his pick on the string on the intro . He does the same on a tune called Some Down Time on his solo work The Blue Man w/ Gadd , Brecker, Will Lee etc ,
Vocal harmonies provided by the incredible Michael McDonald…multiple overdubs with very close harmonics…Michael McDonald was part of the great Doobie Brothers and had a fantastic solo career. Another suggestion for a great band is The Pat Metheny Group….winner of 20 Grammys….give a listen to First Circle or Minuano 6/8
We ( us older folk) were spoiled by all the great music in the 60’s-70’s, so we don’t have any interest in most of today’s “music”. Try “Don’t take me alive” or “Reeling in the years” by SD. They have some of the greatest guitar solos in their music. These start with the guitar solo. Unique.
Sweet thanks for the suggestions Dennis! I am keeping a very even mix of old and new songs here on the channel so dont worry, lots more of the "golden oldies" coming!
Perfect pop music. Hookier than a Peter Pan convention, yet listening makes you smarter. It's up there with Good Vibrations, Eleanor Rigby etc. You won't get tired of hearing this, which you can apply to everything they/you did Baby,. You're one of us now 🤩. #ThreeStrikes&You'reIn Green Earrings or Your Gold Teeth II if you're looking for the next one, or consult the spreadsheet - they're all on there.
This music and the music of Doobie Brothers, Kansas, ELO, Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Tubes, Eagles, and many more spoiled us older folks. Music was made for the sake of beauty and emotion. Today's pop music sounds like it was made by 5th graders on comparison. Many more gems from Steely Dan waiting for you.
Steely Dan was my first high school experience (73-76) and I loved them since then, it made me very picky as a music listener. Then I heard Fleetwood Mac and I followed their path of sound which was much more feminine, which I liked. I didn't know how blessed we were in the 1970s : ) I couldn't stand 1980s music and had to wait until the 1990s sounds and atmosphere to find some rhythm again.
As @lextownes1042 was saying how Michael McDonald was harmonizing with himself, was the same thing the Carpenters did, because no one makes your voice sound better than yourself.
Great reaction! You can continue reactin to Steely Dan with, for instance, "Deacon blues", great chord progression and please, pay attention to its lyrics!
Just checking... That means I pause too much? Honest question from my end because I'm a very new reactor and don't really know what my audience is looking for. (Weird to say I have an audience...)
@@LegacyStudio yes, when you pause and talk for a while don't pause again after 2 notes. But don't listen to me, do whatever you want. I just will not watch it.
Michael McDonald sings all of the backing vocals. I think 2 or even 3 separate takes of him harmonizing with himself at an octave apart.
Peg was originally from the Aja album from 1977. Citizen Steely Dan 1972-80 is a compilation album. Nice reaction. Peg is my favorite from Steely Dan.
Thanks for the heads up on the compilation album!
And I think this version fades earlier than the one on Aja.
Steely Dan songs range from Great to Greater
Yea this song sounds so much better to me now than when it first came out. I hear and appreciate each instrument and the great vocals.
The subtlety of the hi-hat feel is amazing.
Michael McDonald does all the various background parts
Don't need to do a review video but since you mentioned your musical upbringing, take a listen to "Stand" by Denver and the Mile High Orchestra
I added them to my list to check out! Thanks Gregory!

This one finds the "Pocket" , and stays there ...till the end .
This Album "Aja" is definitional "Pocket" .
I'm enjoying the Steely Dan ride. Keep it going.
Deal, I cant believe what is happening with these song reactions Tony. You were right.

American Garage!
That gorgeous bass part is played by Chuck Rainey.

Looking forward to it! Unfortunately UA-cam blocked my reaction to ELO Mr Blue Sky. :0/ really enjoyed that one too.
Do you have a playlist of your Steely Dan reactions? I want to know what you haven't heard so I know what to suggest. Thanks

Try "Green Earrings " .❤
Do you hear the amazing backup vocals by Mike McDonald (lead singer from the Doobie Brothers) playing as a session player with Steely Dan? Awesome!!
Come in Relax with Steely Dan !

You don't have a "love" button unfortunately.
It's such a treat watching you lose your Steely Dan V-card.
Study the MU chord
Great reaction!

You don't pause nearly enough

Okie dokie thanks for the input! I have a lot to learn.
@@LegacyStudio Don't change anything, do it the way you like.
You'll find that the song is immensely more enjoyable without the constant interruption to comment. Just sayin'.
"Peg" was originally from their "Aja" album. Too much pausing of the music makes his hard to enjoy the video.
Geez, listen to the whole song first then comment. You miss the whole essence and mood. Check out Andy and Alex to see how it’s SUPPOSED to be done.
Nope.... Go see my latest and see what I've learned. Everyone can improve. Your looking at older work.
