You've got an audio spill creating an artificial reverb - which is a shame because Steely Dan's audio production is as important as their music structure.
Yes sir ! Cmon now you liked it. 😊They are awesome. So many more good ones from them. Thank you Jennifer. 💕✌️ in 1978 they won a Grammy for this album. Fantastic musicians. You got that right.
You know, there's no harm in looking up the lyrics to these songs and reading them while you listen. I do it all the time when my two 20-something kids come by and want me to hear a hip hop or rap song! (Lol) Steely Dan is a great group! Glad you are enjoying them!
#NoLimitNation Twon! Definitely more Steely Dan! Great Band! Other Great Songs by them are “Decon Blues” “Reelin’ in the Years”, & “Rikki Don’t Lose that Number”
We used to call Michael McDonald the Human Casio, I don't really like everything he did but man those self harmonies are incredible. My recommendation for another Steely Dan track is "Don't Take me Alive", when I was a kid that was the first time I really stood up and noticed a SD track though I didn't actually know who was playing on the radio. The sound of it and the lyrics had me riveted.
De la soul sampled this beat. Steely Dan sampled by lots & lots of hip hop/rap artists. Listen to Black Cow off this same album. You’ll recognize the sample.
"Don't Take Me Alive" has the best guitar intro ever , by guitarist Larry Carlton. Also, check out "Haitian Divorce". The opening guitar had two guys playing, then their riffs were sampled through a "TalkBox", attached to a keyboard. That's how complex their song compositions get. Keeps it interesting!
Everything from pop rock to dirty jazz lounge numbers. Never know what you're gonna get with the Dan, just that the writing and recording are top-shelf. Great group to expand your tastes into places you never expected.
Here's the guitarist who did the solo talking about it and playing it with session musician/youtuber Tim Pierce back in 2018: ua-cam.com/video/Ghp88V3Qm8w/v-deo.html
All in all, this album Aja is a great album. The whole album is reaction worthy as are most of their catalog. Your comments section holds some good advice for you . Steely Dan isn't a job, it's an adventure! Lol. I suggest Home At Last and Aja and from the album prior, Kid Charlemagne is special , as is Green Earrings. Check them out though.
I hear a very distinct echo in some of your reactions. Do you know it, or is this a copyright workaround? Anyway, great tune and love your honest reaction.
you are correct, that is NOT a saxophone, it's Tom Scott playing a Lyricon.. if you like that upbeat tempo check out Kid Charlamagne from The Royal Scam, also on that album Dean Parks plays talk box guitar on Haitian Divorce, one of the best ever.
YES!!! My favorite Group! Since you've reacted to them before, you know how they are the perfect blend of Jazz, R&B and Soft Rock they are, with some of the snarkiest lyrics to be found; Kid Charlemagne: 'Is there gas in the car? Yes, there's gas in the car" 🤣 My favorite: Jack Of Speed
My favorite all time band. Check out Green Earrings and Night by Night for some more funky SD. One of my favorites off this album is Home at Last. Very jazzy. They just never made any bad songs.
Check your EQ! Some messed up reverb going on here. If you're hearing it the way I'm hearing it, you should listen to it again, once you sorted out the issue. Steely Dan's all about the details and the production, which are getting lost sonically here.
This is almost disco Steely Dan. The poppy funky dancable groove is somewhat of a response, or entry, into the "dance song" trend. The record Do it Again comes fromismore of a rock album. This cut is evolved, experimental, maybe even reaching, Steely Dan. The fans and the gen pop loved it. SD's top commercial hit. A danceable soulful funky guitar-horns-piano-drums-hook masterpiece. This is one of the best modern electric guitar songs ever made, ever.
Would like to give you thumbs up but you didn't really bring much reaction here. More sips of soda than enlightened opinion. And maybe look up the songs you reacted to from steely Dan before you do the video....ya know, preparation.... Separates the good reactors from those that didn't study for their tests. Not trying to be mean. I like you so want you to be successful. Your reaction to Bob Dylan was great. Need more of that.
This is a great song by them, doesn't crack my top 10 though. They are very sarcastic and hard to understand. I believe this song is about bribery (I got your picture...it will come back to you)
Do you hear a Michael McDonald singing backup on the chorus? It’s iconic.
He really puts his stamp on everything he shows up in. Unmistakable sound.
back in those days McDonald was literally everywhere singing backup vocals,
Kid Charlamagne, FM, AJA, Reelin in the Years, Black Cow, My old School......so many FIRE songs....
DEACON BLUE
Great list!
Yeah he is going to need a seat belt for those songs.
Love peg. Michael mcdonald singing back up. Incredible!!!!!
Steely Dan The Groove Masters
Yes! That IS Michael McDonald in the background. Wow. What a voice!
You've got an audio spill creating an artificial reverb - which is a shame because Steely Dan's audio production is as important as their music structure.
Is that what it is? It's certainly off/bad in a horrid way.
I couldn't figure it out either. I thought it was some kind of live version for a minute there. That makes sense now. Thanks!
@@AZColt1971 it's probably headphone or room speakers loud enough to feed back into the audio mic. Let's hope he gets it sorted.
The sax is a lyricon an electric sax played by Tom Scott!
One of my other fav. songs off this album. Check out another song called, "Black Cow" off this same album. The intro will surprise you.
100%
He ain't ready for black cow
Y'all think he's ready for Black Cow? I mean he's almost jumping out of his seat now. Maybe he should ease into it by listening to Kid Charlemagne
Every song on Aja! Sink into it! A timeless sound. Great musicianship!
Rest In Peace Walter Becker, guitarist and half of Steely Dan.
Even if you thought you never heard Michael McDonald, you’ve heard Michael McDonald. Very distinct sound , on backing vocals.
Sooooo glad you got to Peg. This is probably one my my favorite Steely Dan songs. 🥰
Yes sir ! Cmon now you liked it. 😊They are awesome. So many more good ones from them. Thank you Jennifer. 💕✌️ in 1978 they won a Grammy for this album. Fantastic musicians. You got that right.
I used to model as a teen back in the 80's and I remember walking the runway to this tune, twirling, stepping and strutting my stuff. I still love it!
I think you would like their song "Hey, nineteen"
She’s right - this is a great one. 👏👏👏
Next recommended Steely Dan songs:
“FM (No Static at All)”
“Black Cow”
They get the funk on in those songs.
Fun story: I learned to play this bass line from Chuck Rainey who is the bassist on the track. A legend.
Wow. What an amazing experience that must have been. A cool gift.
The whole album is a masterpiece
De La Soul's "Eye Know" is a great song that heavily samples this tune.
Believe it or not Michael McDonald is doing backup vocals on this song.✌
Yes, he's the one that echoes "Peg" in the chorus.
Try "Reelin in the Years" off of the same album as "Do it Again" or "Hey Nineteen"
You know, there's no harm in looking up the lyrics to these songs and reading them while you listen. I do it all the time when my two 20-something kids come by and want me to hear a hip hop or rap song! (Lol) Steely Dan is a great group! Glad you are enjoying them!

He looking like he loves it!!!! Love that you appreciate good music!!!! Your facial expressions!!!!! 💗
#NoLimitNation 💯
The album Aja is one of the pillars of Hip-Hop...That album has been sampled to death!!!
I think you're putting on to much. I'm sure you can't tell me more than one song that has been sampled on this album.
My all time favorite by Steely Dan is “Pretzel Logic “.
I see I had a echo will be fixed next video❤️sorry
I love how responsive you are and willing to listen and take notes to grow as a content creator. I for one want great things for you.
The base line is pure FUNK
Yippie! 😍 Steely Dan! 😁 Let's Go! 📷 I see your picture...... 😉🐰
This entire album is one big hit!
Everything from pop rock to dirty jazz lounge numbers. Never know what you're gonna get with the Dan, just that the writing and recording are top-shelf. Great group to expand your tastes into places you never expected.

The 1970s..Legends at work.

We had such great music back then. ❤️
I hear a very distinct echo in some of your reactions. Do you know it, or is this a copyright workaround? Anyway, great tune and love your honest reaction.
The audio is off to me but I still like the reaction.
What did you like about it? He didn't say shit.
AWESOME REACTION Bro
Geniouses these guy are

One of my favs by SD!!!!
In the 70s a “foreign movie” was code for a xxx production.
Check out Dirty Work by these guys , badass
Let’s go!!
My favorite all time band. Check out Green Earrings and Night by Night for some more funky SD. One of my favorites off this album is Home at Last. Very jazzy. They just never made any bad songs.
Steely Dan has SO many great tunes. Can't Buy A Thrill is a great album so if you're into long playing LP's, you'd enjoy it!
Saxophone, trumpet and trombone on the background
cool thank you
The snare drum hits in the audio carry an echo that shouldn't be there. Compression artifact maybe?
No one is making genius music like this anymore.
Depressing.
And think about this-that song is 43 years old
Smile for the camera lol
Try Aja and Bad Sneakers by them
Love your videos man. You should really listen to Razor Boy from the Album Countdown to Ecstasy. It’s my fav song of theirs.
One of the background singers is from the Doobie brothers
Jay Graydon on guitar 🎸
☮️❤️🙏🌎🌏🌍🇺🇸❤️☮️
The Royal Scam by Steely Dan is one of my favorites 😎
Yeah okay.Trumpet. you got to do Black Cow.
Nobody hates this.
☮️💙💙💙
You ever gonna review Take 6 "Spread Love" ? 1988 version? Or the 1989 music video?
there's echo on your feed. Track sounds weird.
Michael McDonald on background vocals
You need to react to Kid Charlemagne by Steely Dan. One of the best guitar solos ever.
tight
If want a slow chill vibe that takes you on a journey.. then light a joint, sit back, relax and react to their song Aja
I think it is
I'm absolutely in favor of more Steely Dan. For your next Steely Dan song, I recommend "Rikki Don't Lose That Number".
Hey bro you should check out their song Haitian Divorce. Got a different vibe but it's one of their best.
CHUCK F'N RAINEY
If you haven’t already, you should definitely check out Kid Charlemagne
Gotta react to the song ~ AJA ~
You should react to BLACK COW, if you haven't already.
Can you hear Michael McDonald on background vocals.
Check your EQ! Some messed up reverb going on here. If you're hearing it the way I'm hearing it, you should listen to it again, once you sorted out the issue. Steely Dan's all about the details and the production, which are getting lost sonically here.
React to Barry White
Bodhisattva
That's a clavinet.
Tremendous articulation with an extensive vocabulary.
😶

You should turn your speakers off before recording. You're getting a latency echo.
So sad!1😥 I am not getting your notifications 😒! I blame UA-cam!
YESSS Steely Dan.💃💃💃💃💃💃💃💃💃 thanks Jennifer 😊 🙏 ♥ ❤
The audio is off on the video.
thought so too
Your audio has an echo on it.
That reverb on your audio made me turn this off after 10 seconds. I dont think you need it to avoid copyright but that's your call.
That wasn’t the case it just messed up for this video
@@NLTwon ok thanks, I'll definitely check out more Steely Dan reactions.
What's up with the sound? Missing half the song.
Audio on this video sounds awful. This is like a 49th tape to tape facsimile of the original.
Go back, Jack. Do it again.
Don't know what's going on with your sound but it sounds really weird! 😕 Always worth hearing some Steely Dan though!
Would like to give you thumbs up but you didn't really bring much reaction here. More sips of soda than enlightened opinion. Somethings off in your sound. They were known for their production perfection and this was not it. Too bad, you did not get the full experience.
Booooo this was the laziest review I've ever seen. Like 0 feedback.
