I have 4 rocks in my tank, 3 I bought dry, the other was a live rock. The live rock had a ton of algae on it. Added one, emphasis ONE, turbo snail. 3 days later, no more algae.
I'm not really one to watch a lot of videos, more of a reader, so maybe it's just me, but man, I gotta say, you have got the most beautiful tank I've ever seen. Gorgeous! Awesome video!
The only CUC that i have seen actually do anything is the hermits! i have had all you have mentioned and they sit on one spot for days and weeks on end! i dont get it! My turbo has been in the same spot for a month! Could it be possible they have a spot they prefer during the day and work at night then go back home and just sit there during the day? i only have a few members left so i am going to try adding a whole pack at a time with these various ones and see what happens because i am plagued with cyano! At least it looks like it but dosnt respond the chemiclean! Thinking about sending in a pic with microsope and see if someone on reef2reef can advise me! it almost goes away when i blow the sand bed and rocks daily but always comes back and never complete leaves! Thanks for video! Very helpful! I know you dont have this tank anymore but this is the tank that inspired me a few years back to get into reef keeping! I owe it all to you!
I went through Dino algae about 3 months ago at my tank’s one year mark. It had 2 stages. Right when I thought it was gone I bought some more corals then it came back and killed all the sps. It took 5 months to rid and I don’t even know what out of the many things I did actually ended it. I’m pretty sure though it was too low of nutrients so be careful when lowering them to try and get rid of other algaes
Great video. I love the tank. I would add four honorable mentions to your list. Astrea snails are better at eating hair algae than Trochus but cannot turn themselves over. Red leg hermit crabs are better algae eaters than blue leg but are 4+ times the size. Nerite snails are really good at keeping your glass clean but they lay eggs all over the tank which is annoying. And pincushion urchins are also really good algae eaters but will move things that are not secured around the tank. I have also had good luck with saltwater mollies eating cyano and hair algae but for people with the room Tangs might be a better option.
I have trochus and nassarius. They both breed like crazy. Will cause you to loose your mind eventually. But they do such a good job I just cant go to anything else.
I have found that bumble bee snails are one of the best in my tank. I had cyano starting on a coral and the bb snail got rid of it in 2 days. Never left that coral till it was gone and never even cause the polyps to retract.
Beautiful tank man, I used to have a 75 gallon reef mostly sps for almost 3 yrs but the tank crashed and almost everything died off sad history... Thinking in comeback to the hobby
I have two turbos and they’re getting massively huge haven’t had a problem with them yet.. I did have an issue with the black ones not sure what they’re called but they would flip 24/7 ended up taking them out...
What do you have in your tank and how many of each approximately? Further more, how many and what did you have imidiately after cycling your tank if you can remember? Thanks and gorgeous tank!!!!
Hahahahahaha I agree on the rodi and saltwater from the LFS. I recently tested all of my LFS and I found TDS and low salinity saltwater at all jut one. Not there faukt. It's hard to do mass quantities especially with the saltwater. Even hard to store.
I don't mix in snails with hermits. The hermits inevitably always kill off all of the snails in order to get their shells. Even having extra shells for them to choose from won't stop this.
Blue hammer, gold torch, bleeding apple scoly 😱😱😱 geez what did you do to get your hands on those!? Haha any one in particular you suggest buying from ?
The best snails for algae IMHO are nerite snails and small (less than 1.5" or 2") cowries. No issues with righting themselves and nerite snails will breed in your tank keeping up their own population. As cowries get to the 2.5 to 3" mark they can become unsafe for coral but it takes years for them to get that size. I totally agree with what you say in your vid though, not trying to contradict. We have small white crabs (completely white) here that are better detrivores than emerald crabs and they stay small (less than 1/2") and are 100% reef safe. A complimentary video to this one, would be about sand sifting inverts and fish as well as macro algae the grow in the sand (which detoxifies it). Just sayin'.
I stay away from Turbo snails. Good point about Emerald Crabs as they will go after corals and fish if hungry. Also, I prefer dwarf cortez hermits as they do the same job as blue legged, however, they are more peaceful members of the community. They come from The Sea Of Cortez. Blue Legged Hermits will fight for shells and kill snails. They are good at cleaning but they are much more feisty.
Not sure how much 60lite is but if it was 60 gallons I would add about 40 CUC just mixing them up having mainly blue leg crabs and cerith, Trochis snails, about 6-10 nasarius, 1-2 emerald
MLrepair Utah you can maneuver the frags into a tight spot where they don’t move without glue. Nothings been knocked off so far. Can we just say HOLY CRAP at this tank! One of, if not the most beautiful tank I’ve seen online, and it’s a nano! Incredible.
VitoTron 417, I’m under the impression that TDS testers are quick and easy. Sounds right but I’ve read lab testing could still detect heavy metals. Maybe it was someone trying to sell me on RO/DI. Just getting started myself. Got a 55 gal and haven’t even added the water. Distilled works but I was told to contact distiller and double check they don’t use copper. Might be the TDS meter works perfectly.
You have one of the most beautiful reef I've seen on UA-cam and I've watched my share... :) It is a true inspiration for me. I agree with your list, but you didn't mention anything about urchins. I have two in my tank and they do the most of the rock/glass cleaning and I also have trohus, nassarius, and blue leg hermit.
is trocus another name for astrea? Look the same. What do u recomend for a new ten gallon. I have 2 very small astrea and nassirus. I iwsh i had of gotten bigger but since they have a short life span and all my LFS had I got them. She is going to hold some corals I ot on this super sale so i have to kiss her but haha.
Little late cause the videos old but reason 2 to get smaller blue hermit crabs. Got three and the smaller two went to town on hair alge the larger one tho stared eating my hammers and zoas...
Just added an emerald crab in my tank about 3 days ago, little bastard molted almost immediately after I acclimated it and start eating my zoas the next day 😂
2 mins in, you say clean up crew too much.... way too much... any writer for books videos film will say the same thing, you repeat the same word over and over, just brreak it down into clean up crew then you could say snails, crabs, fish depending on the situtation, i have counted in 2 mins 20 seconds well over 20 times you saying clean up crew.... that is 10 x per minute mate. clean up crew.......... clean up crew...... i noticed it on your "LFS" video.. don't abbreviate on videos say fish shop, fish store and aquatic store. just a tip from someone who picks up on these things ( i am not a video editor nor anything special i jsut wanted to put my own advice in was all)
One of the best reef tanks I have ever seen absolutely stunning answer very good tips there as well nice video enjoyed it
Really appreciate it!
How you film the aquarium is 75%
Howd you even see it though blindreefer?
We need you back in 2024 please 🙏. Happy new year 🎆
I have 4 rocks in my tank, 3 I bought dry, the other was a live rock. The live rock had a ton of algae on it. Added one, emphasis ONE, turbo snail. 3 days later, no more algae.
They don’t mess around
I'm not really one to watch a lot of videos, more of a reader, so maybe it's just me, but man, I gotta say, you have got the most beautiful tank I've ever seen. Gorgeous! Awesome video!
That yellow and blue torch looks amazing
damn everything looks amazing! Wow! Please keep them thriving, imagine reintroducing these into the oceans! It’d be art.
The only CUC that i have seen actually do anything is the hermits! i have had all you have mentioned and they sit on one spot for days and weeks on end! i dont get it! Amazing tank and coral selection I had to watch it twice , I keep getting distracted by the coral ,
Hahahahahaha thanks man.
That GSP has grown in great! Inspiration. Going to do that in my tank
Totally agree with getting the small blue leg hermits. I got a big one and was constantly knocking over corals and even would pick them up!
I went through Dino algae about 3 months ago at my tank’s one year mark. It had 2 stages. Right when I thought it was gone I bought some more corals then it came back and killed all the sps. It took 5 months to rid and I don’t even know what out of the many things I did actually ended it. Ya totally agree there is a fine line.
Really nice tank but I tuned in to hear about CUC and spent the time looking at the tank.
Your tank is incredible. One of the best I've ever seen.
The reason to tune in wasn’t to spend time looking at a perfect tank that was obviously expensive and took years to achieve but to learn about CUC
Trocus are my favorite of em all.... Most effective.... However they breed like crazy.... Watch your pumps but mostly it's a non issue
Totally. They do seem to breed pretty quickly
I have trochus and nassarius. They both breed like crazy. Will cause you to loose your mind eventually. But they do such a good job I just cant go to anything else.
I use all of them except I use the scarlet leg hermit crabs instead of the blue leg hermit crabs.
I have found that bumble bee snails are one of the best in my tank. I had cyano starting on a coral and the bb snail got rid of it in 2 days. Never left that coral till it was gone and never even cause the polyps to retract.
Love blue legs. Sometimes I get them from the beach. Emerald crab are also cool to have. Great list I have them all .
Ya blue legs are very affective
What beach do you get them ?
Beautiful tank man, I used to have a 75 gallon reef mostly sps for almost 3 yrs but the tank crashed and almost everything died off sad history... Thinking in comeback to the hobby
I would add a conch.. I have one and he cleans up the sand really well.
Wow, I just wanted to say your tank is beautiful!!! Thank you for the videos
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it. 😊
Great video. So true about the Mexican turbo snails.
phenomenal tank the torch collection is awesome!
5:47
I have two turbos and they’re getting massively huge haven’t had a problem with them yet.. I did have an issue with the black ones not sure what they’re called but they would flip 24/7 ended up taking them out...
Your tank is the best looking I have ever seen
Trochus snails can also reproduce viable offspring in an aquarium environment!
Yet another great educational video and again, I totally agree with all you said. I may have added a chalk Goby to my list, great sand sifter! 😉😉
Thanks! Ya I hear those do good too
Great video. P.S. Your tank is awesome!
Thanks :)
Holy mother I literally said to myself "damn thats the most beautiful reef tank ive ever seen and its only 20 gallons!"
Give me 25.000 $ and i will make you the same tank , those are not 15$ frags that grew ...
I learned not to trust my lfs, when it comes to water so I do have my rodi unit
Perfect good for you 😊 it really is the only way
@@eatsleepreef9565 ....I believe so too. I took over my own testing too.
That really is the only way
You can always test with a TDS meter as well
What do you have in your tank and how many of each approximately? Further more, how many and what did you have imidiately after cycling your tank if you can remember? Thanks and gorgeous tank!!!!
I was 50/50 on the emerald crab, I ordered one and unfortunately he was DOA. That’s a sign! Great video
In my experience they do pretty well
Great video! Very informative!👍
🤙🏼😊
Absolutely great video !!!
Would you mind sharing your water Parameters, any additives that you use, and your lights. Also what salt do you use?
Candy Coral Aquatics I was wondering the same thing lol...his tank looks amazing!
Hahahahahaha I agree on the rodi and saltwater from the LFS. I recently tested all of my LFS and I found TDS and low salinity saltwater at all jut one. Not there faukt. It's hard to do mass quantities especially with the saltwater. Even hard to store.
Great video, awesome tank.
Thanks
I don't mix in snails with hermits. The hermits inevitably always kill off all of the snails in order to get their shells. Even having extra shells for them to choose from won't stop this.
whats your tank size, it look nice and simple and beautiful at the same time
Your last mention is my favorite so so AGREED CHEERS good Sir :)
My blenny is not the most colorful but makes up in personality/ algae matience plus hes a pig he devours all left overs ;)
They are no joke for sure
What type of substrate is in your tank? REALLY enjoy the vids.
Carbs sea reef grade sand
Now thats a reef tank!! 👍👍
Love the vids, keep them coming! Just got my PLS 50 Elite for my 30 long and love it! In my opinion it’s by far one of the best.
It’s a killer skimmer
Blue hammer, gold torch, bleeding apple scoly 😱😱😱 geez what did you do to get your hands on those!? Haha any one in particular you suggest buying from ?
Nice video again 👍
great video, thanks.
Thanks :)
Very nice aquarium! Doesn’t your wrasse eat the hermit crabs?
What are your future plans for the blue tang?
Going into my new build :)
The best snails for algae IMHO are nerite snails and small (less than 1.5" or 2") cowries. I have a Melanarus wrasse and wondering if getting a clean up crew would be ok to add or a waste of money.
Great info!
Off topic but how did you get your green star polyp to grow on the back glass like that
It’s not glass it’s acrylic as it’s an AIO tank. I have a video on here showing how to care and mount :)
Nice video
Great video bud! ✌️
Thanks :)
Looking forward to hearing how you rid your algae , Did you try hydrogen peroxide ? Tank looks Great !
No hydrogen
Buy a lawnmower blennie don’t-add chemicals
Great video!
Thanks
Just started a 16G bio cube. Cycling right now. Should I scale down my cleanup crew once I start putting creatures in?
Great video but I will like to know the name of the yellow and blue tips.
Keep working hard you have a nice looking tank
And the green and purple
Are you referring to coral?
jose carattini The gold torch ?
Nice one 👍 man I’m looking to add a cuc to my tank Ive got a 60 litre reef how many of each would you add to a 60 litre reef tank 👍
Not sure how much 60lite is but if it was 60 gallons I would add about 40 CUC just mixing them up having mainly blue leg crabs and cerith, Trochis snails, about 6-10 nasarius, 1-2 emerald
EAT SLEEP Reef about 16 gallons 👍
Just get a bristle tooth tang and some scarlet hermits, after a few days you'll be more worried about what do I feed them now.
EAT "believe it or not" SLEEP Reef
I know from previous videos. You said you don't glue down frags. So how do you keep the hermits from bulldozing your display?
Only the zoas aren’t glued. They just don’t haha. They are so crammed packed there is no place to go
MLrepair Utah you can maneuver the frags into a tight spot where they don’t move without glue. Nothings been knocked off so far. Can we just say HOLY CRAP at this tank! One of, if not the most beautiful tank I’ve seen online, and it’s a nano! Incredible.
I'm new to this hobby and I'm wondering what is growing on your back wall that looks like grass and second what light do you have?
GSP Green star polyps!
why do you have a hippo tank in a small aquarium?
Amazing tank
Why is the purple/yellow coral in your video the one moving around with ur current
Distilled water has 0 tds so I’ll be using that. Nice video btw!👍🔥😁
VitoTron 417, research where you buy distilled. Some companies use copper plumbing, giving you unsafe amounts.
Nicholas Middleton wouldn’t it be detectable by tds meter
VitoTron 417, I’m under the impression that TDS testers are quick and easy. Sounds right but I’ve read lab testing could still detect heavy metals. Maybe it was someone trying to sell me on RO/DI. Just getting started myself. Got a 55 gal and haven’t even added the water. Distilled works but I was told to contact distiller and double check they don’t use copper. Might be the TDS meter works perfectly.
Nicholas Middleton got it thanks dude
Is the yellow and purple looking coral a torch coral? Or an anemone ?
Torch
You have one of the most beautiful reef I've seen on UA-cam and I've watched my share... :) It is a true inspiration for me. I agree with your list, but you didn't mention anything about urchins. I have two in my tank and they do the most of the rock/glass cleaning and I also have trohus, nassarius, and blue leg hermit.
Truly appreciate those kind words 😊don’t urchins sometimes knock ever coral?
Can a clean up crew cause a nutrient spike by pooping? If so how many do you know how to add? (I have a 15gl w/ minor hair algae) 2 troca snails?
What filter do you film with?
Polyplab filter
What do you feed your zoas thier hudge!!
Reefroids
i saw that you have a big lawnmower blenny
Love hermit crab
Tang in a 20 gallon? My Lfs told me that’s a big NO NO. I’m new to this hobby but I would love to have one. I have a Red Sea Nano max.
Whoa, whoa, whoa! Blue legged hermits eat cyano?!!!
is trocus another name for astrea? Look the same. What do u recomend for a new ten gallon. I have 2 very small astrea and nassirus. I iwsh i had of gotten bigger but since they have a short life span and all my LFS had I got them. She is going to hold some corals I ot on this super sale so i have to kiss her but haha.
Looking to add some vegitation to my marine tank, what is that growing on the back by the return?
Green star polyp
How many members for the clean up crew should I get for a 25 gallon
Liter?
Enjoyed the video Sir you have a great week ahead :)
How many gallons is your tank? :)
Little late cause the videos old but reason 2 to get smaller blue hermit crabs. Got three and the smaller two went to town on hair alge the larger one tho stared eating my hammers and zoas...
how many fish do you have
My mexican turbo snails right themselves tho ...
Bro... you’ve one upped the chicks on the titty pics. A direct shot not even trying to pretend haha.
Topically, believe it or not... they’ve been known to pretty much... lmao
What size tank is this
too short vid,but its nice
6:43 To skip the rambling
Just added an emerald crab in my tank about 3 days ago, little bastard molted almost immediately after I acclimated it and start eating my zoas the next day 😂
Do srhrooms much
I feel like snails are useless and hermit crabs get shit done. Except for conchs. Long live the master snail!
Hate to be the tang police but seriously? Common man...
I have a video covering the plans for them going in the new build which is in the works 😊

What size is this tank
