Haven't watched in a bit but I'm on a binge tonight. This man was an amazing gift to our hobby and I am so very grateful for all the time I spent watching these videos. Rest in peace and many blessings to you and your family.
Miss you Jake may you RIP I wish you were still around producing your amazing content! still got Jake on repeat 23/06/2023 you were the inspiration to this hobby
RIP Jake 🙏🏼❤️ You left behind something so great for all of us reefers. You got me into this hobby with your videos. I’m sure you will be building an awesome Reeftank up there! You will be missed. Much love to you and your family.
Jake, I never met you personally but I really enjoyed your videos. It felt like I knew you in some strange way. Know that you’ll be missed and I hope you’re resting with the most beautiful views of your favorite reefs. I pray for your family and friends. May they find the strength to deal with this very difficult time. Rest my friend. -internet stranger
@@michaelherndon1444 how isn’t it simple because he is using higher end equipment? You can do the same with lower end equipment that doesn’t cost as much. It’s a simple setup only thing that is more advanced would be the calc reactor.
So sorry to hear about Jake's sudden passing :( Jake was a friend of mine that my store hosted along with Bob Fenner, James W. Fatherree, and a couple other speakers, back quite a few years ago. I'm known as Kevinpo in the reefing world. Jake wrote very kind words about tiny Aquatic Dreams in Spokane Valley WA. He also made a beautiful video of one of my tanks. He contacted me just a couple years ago for an article about the Green Bali Slimer coral I had, wanting to know the lineage. Unfortunately I had it for so many years I couldn't give him a definitive answer. My late condolences to Jake's family. Best regards, Kevin Pockell
RIP Jake, I think of you and your passion and knowledge of reefing always, your tanks and animals were pristine and amazing, I refer to your videos for help with my aquarium, I would hope to have a frag from some of your collections grace my tank one day.
Hi Jake always look forward to your content more than any other, and especially like how you put so much enthuses on enjoying the growth form of corals. The tank is an inspiration, thank you.
Gonna miss you Jake.. RIP, YOU will be sorely missed by me and everyone in this hobby.. Glad I got to meet you and several visits to your studio to chat, trade and talk. Hope you heard my voice mail, miss ya already:(
Great video. I love these types of updates. Because you do not do these often you can really see the difference inbthe growth. You have a good eye for aquascaping with little rock. I wish I had that eye.
Jake, two things. I know you see this tank all the time, but in my 27 years of Reefing, this is some of the nicest looking SPS, LPS, and Softies I've seen. Absolutely stunning tank. Second, the Radion Gen 4 was the perfect light. I've seen countless tanks using these and they all look great. I would use those over the Gen 5 and 6 any day. Thanks for all the content, never gets old.
I have a standard 55 gallon tank setup as a peninsula... talk about tight space... 5 plus years. My 1st tank. 20 gallon homemade sump and refugium. Started with the cheapest equipment possible on Amazon a d have been slowly replacing over the years as necessary. Just stepped up from cheap black box lights to ai primes...huge difference. Built a little control board. Want a controller...and a real peninsula aquarium or cube next. Always loved peninsula style tanks. Mine serves as kind of a half wall between rooms. Definitely nicer to look at from one side but eventually I'll fill it all out. It does allow you to buy alot of coral. My biggest mistake was not making my rock work more custom. I have a hanging garden style scape going on with just 3 big rocks touching the sand bed and everything else is elevated. Wish those rocks had holes for swim throughs as the ones i have arent always enough flow wise and i just plopped the 3 biggest rocks carrib sea sent me without any thought of breaking them, making a flat base, drilling holes or just buying the lifeshape rock they sell that does all that. Its a mixed reef. Mostly lps at this point. During the pandemic i lost a ton of acros and haven't got around to or had the heart/cash/stomach to replace them all. Nice zoa and euphillia gardens. Working on some gonis too. Its expensive and time consuming but i enjoy trying to keep these fragile creatures that are only found in the most exotic warm water reefs in the world thriving in a box of water in my apartment.
Great video and thank you for sharing. This was just the video I needed. Took about a 10 year hiatus from the reef hobby and plan to get a 625xll or 180 DX early next year. Last night, I created a google sheet itemizing all the equipment that I would need to get. Your video just shaved off about $2-4K that can now in turn be used for livestock. 🙌🏼
Really awesome tank Jake! I really appreciated the candid synopsis of the Surgeon Fish and their fin issues. Makes me feel a little better about my Yellow Tang who, despite a decent diet and multiple attempts at medication, has earned the nickname "Train Wreck" do to his fin and tail problems.
What do think is the most beneficial length of time for lights to be on in a mixed reef. My acropora are still mostly frags . I run the raidon gen 5 blues two xr15s over a 3ft red sea tank . I run my lights 8 hours at 75% with ab plus program. No modifications to the program. No peaks of white or intense blues. Just a ramp up and a flat straight line on the mobius app then a ramp down. Should I change that? Rest in peace jake. I'm going to miss watching your videos. Your memory will be kept alive though all of us in the hobby for as long as people keep fish and corals in aquariums . "FOREVER "
SELCON! ive fixed so many "hocky puck" zebrasoma tangs by adding selcon to their food. ive had a purple and gem tang with no fins regrow them within a week or two after starting to feed selcon. definitely give it a shot.
I love this tank so much as to collars and forms! Would also have loved to see the aquarium under blue lights only, but the 2000 likes were not attained in time though. So sorry. But I have noted down the light schedule which I will be using over my aquarium with my Radion XR15 Pro.Thank you Jake....
Speaking of lights. I’m anxious to see how the Refi Uno 2.0 Pro performs. Hopefully someone will put out a review on it. Should be coming out in the next month or so.
I was having low nutrient issues in my tank, I ended up just removing my skimmer and replaced with an air stone. So far so good. Corals are looking better than ever
Nice balanced setup that's back to basics of the past. When you test your Nitrates and PO4 what type of ratio do you see? Seems I need to keep dosing Sodium Nitrates else my PO4 starts to creep up.
Hi, first time viewing from England uk. I wanted to ask why you did not use any coral sand on the bottom of this particular tank? I always assumed you needed it for the base of marine tanks? But it really made me think differently about marine setup, and I'm going to be a new subscriber so able to view other setups. Excellent video.
Remember you mentioning sometimes letting your temperature drift a little helps make your corals more resilient. How much of a fluctuation is acceptable?
I have a question about Phos. So you mentioned bottoming out. I have a 20 gallon coral only tank. I feed them once in a while and my phos are always bottomed out. I have neophos to dos, but after a little while it bottoms out again. What is the safest way to to help keep the phos up without it happening too fast? Add a fish?
Tank is amazing and yet so simple. I think it’s time for me to let go of some gadgets and go back in time to the simple days. I might even have to reboot the tank after nearly three years of struggling on multiple issues from Cyanobacteria, Ich, and now Dinos and ich.
Tank is looking 🔥 other than the fin erosion. Corals look amazing! Glad you addressed the fin erosion on the tangs. That is one of the reasons I came out to Reefstock. I have a yellow that looks like absolute hell. Your tangs look 10 times better than mine. Sure would be nice to find out what actually causes this! How to prevent it and hopefully how to reverse it one day. It sucks as the yellow tang is one of my favorite fish in the trade.
Amazingly beautiful Jake! I genuinely love the simplicity and straightforward approach (even though I'm a gear head). Any thoughts on intriducing a red sea reef mat to reduce some maintenance? What tool / method would you use to cut a really thick based acro ? I got a couple of acros that are starting to get out of hand and needs to be taken out, trimmed and put back as mini colonies.
Yes an automatic filter roll is the only real change we'd still like to make to this aquarium. Here's my preferred tool for cutting thick acros reefbuilders.com/2022/04/12/maxspect-coral-pruner-is-ideal-for-thick-sps-skeletons/

I Still rewatch all the content many times over, as the information is quality the look and feel is bright & positive, and Jake had such an infectious enthusiasm & passion for all things aquatic with such an honest delivery and pure obvious joy in sharing it with everyone. 💙
I remember the last time you showed this Reef and Wow how beautiful all the Corals are.💜 The Gem Tang poor guy has lost almost all finnage😢 Yellow Tangs can be real Dicks I hope that perfect one isn't bullying that guy. Thanks ✌💜🐟🐟
I'm new with reef, as I know we have to have media in order to grow beneficial bacteria to reduce NH4/NO2/NO3/PO4 but where are those? how can you guys keep those value so perfectly with minimal of devices? I'm so impressed.
No you don't have to have biomedia to grow bacteria unless you have a fish aquarium that you feed heavily, all the surfaces and the live rock are more than enough for a reef aquarium

Totally agree. Love how your content isn’t afraid to question/confront the trend towards tons of technology and overly complex systems.
Oh you mean he isn't running $1500 in lights and $1500 in pumps $1000 in dosing $900 protein skimmer etc... keeping it simple lol
@@michaelherndon1444 how isn’t it simple because he is using higher end equipment? You can do the same with lower end equipment that doesn’t cost as much. It’s a simple setup only thing that is more advanced would be the calc reactor.

God speed.
Back in our passion after a few years of rest, I learn that you've left for the great ocean. My thoughts to your family
Thanks for being you Jake
Excellent some great content from the studio instead of gassing for hours ! Looks sweet
loved this video. Thanks, Jake :) miss ya
RIP Jake. we miss you so much.
RIP Jake, a legend in the field

Miss this guy!
Absolutely epic love that everywhere you look there is something going on. Super inspiring. Can’t believe the flow is just two mp60!

Beautiful tank Jake. Already miss your videos. Only met you once at NY Reef a Palooza. But interesting talking to you. RIP
I rewatch these videos constantly, to remind myself what reefing is all about
god i always love the music yall tag along with your vids. by far my favorite part since almost all other reefers dont or use generic music.
thanks, it's one aspect of video production that we've always particularly enjoyed
Thank you Jake. I learn so much from your updates.

9:22 - man the color contract between those two sticks...awesome stuff. The whole video my eyes kept getting drawn to that portion of the tank.
Totally agree!

Great example of a "mixed reef" everything looks very happy!

Amazing coloration even without all blue light but PLEASE hit us with some shots at the end just so our minds can be even more blown.

around 10ml daily
