Not sure what American cars you are driving. I am from MN and I do not have starting problems with the Ford or Chevy till the equivalent of -28 c or -19 f. I see those temp and if my car was outside all night I question if it will start and that is only if I have an older battery that is on the edge of needing replacement.
I actually enjoyed watching the wrecker struggle a little in the snow. I live on an island 800 miles from Anchorage Alaska, and the way trucks are set up here are so much different than yours in the desert. I am retiring soon, and I plan to spend a few years exploring Nevada, Utah, Arizona and New Mexico (that's how I found your channel; researching desert setups). Anyway, It's fun to watch you dominate in areas where I'd be scared, and then watch you nervous in areas that are better than my drive to work. I suppose it's all about what a person has experience with. Thank you for the video.
Here in upstate NY we put chains on our trucks when 'offroading' due to snow and ice. I was laughing as these poor guys struggled to drive uphill while slipping due to no chains.
That gentleman asked me to pull that back on the road with my rzr, I giggled and my son told the to call you guys. We gave them a ride off the mountain. Happy you guys were able to help them 😉
Yeah, almost all of the snow recoveries could have been "put chains on", it's like they don't want to kill their business. Also, lots of learning stuff from Matt, but a mention of tire pressure would have been nice. Also, "Ten essentials" for snow should include a scraper/brush and snow shovel, and maybe some warm clothing.
Yup, chains. I was going to comment but figured I'd check to see if the comment section was full of chain comments. Chains would have made both of those rigs competent.
I was lucky to have a great father. One time asked; boy, you learned how to repair everything! My response, you forget dad - learned it from you. Parents sometimes miss small moments which have an important impact on a child's life, mine began 'helping' actually watching my father repair everything. What impressed me years later, while had the resources to pay someone to fix it - He did it anyway. His take away line ' Somehow, I learned more than I wanted to know' :)

This vid shows how hard it is to work in snow. You had plenty of winching power, but the wrecker kept sliding sideways along with the white Dodge. You reset and added the second winch. Made it look easy, I'm sure it took quite a while to get it sorted out. Things never look as steep as they are on video. Great job, as usual.
I think it’s about time you get those wipers working on that wrecker battery recovery even had me kind of nervous just watching the video. Good job guys.

I wish Rhett would have thought about that and used it as an opportunity to praise his big brother for being an overcomer! Maybe he will... Time stands still for 'slow' and 'determined'. The most truly holy (in the spiritual sense) person I've ever seen was a paraplegic athlete boarding a small regional airliner. I was working as a ramp agent stationed at the bottom of the jetbridge by the aircraft cabin door. My task was to help this 'handicap pax' transfer to an aisle chair so she could be wheeled to her seat on the plane. I instantly became mesmerized when I looked up and made eye contact with her rolling down the jetbridge balanced on the two rear wheels. She was in full control of her descent-rate and steady as a train on a track-- even across the multiple ~3" drop-ramps at the joints of the telescoping bridge sections. (I've seen people trip and fall badly just stepping across these little section-joints on a steep jetbridge.) I managed to keep my composure enough to ask how I could best help her transfer from her wheelchair to the aisle chair. She replied, Just hold your aisle chair steady and then she proceeded to do the most effortless self-transfer! While loading her wheelchair into the aircraft baggage compartment so she could make the trip back up the jetbridge at her destination, I felt like just *her wheel chair* carried more dignity and respect than I did. In Kansas we keep these handy hand tools called "ice scrapers" in our vehicles. We use them to remove snow and ice from the vehicles glass!!! We also have another handy tool we use frequently in the winter called "coats" 😂🤣
I spent a lot of time driving 4WD's on snowy 4WD trails in the Rockies. The early winter season and late spring driving was the most treacherous because snow and ice are the slickest right around freezing (32° F.) . Getting vehicles unstuck and out on trails like this is actually easier when the temperatures are really cold and the snow is less slick. If it was was -10° F. or colder, this rescue would have been much easier. Easier, but not fun for the guys out in the cold doing the work. I've done it at -30° F. and lower ambient temperatures--you spend a lot of time in the truck warming up.
I spent several years in the oil field from Wasatch to N. Colorado and all of Wyoming. The trucks all had skinny tall tires for getting through the muck. Coldest year was 1978 at -56 below and lots of snow. Our little Blazer would blast through gullies and washouts overflowing with snow, and would track right through it all so we could get to work and back.
I have owned a lot of 4x4's my entire life and it's the older ones that performed the best. Regardless of tires, these newer trucks all have some sort of emission controls and various sensors that can completely shut the truck down just when it is needed the most. It's no wonder they get stuck in a little bit of brush and hardly any snow. They can't even be expected to perform reliably in sand. Utah is very fortunate in not having these restrictions placed on off-road vehicles.
I watch Casey LaDelle's channel he does loads of snow recoveries in the Cascades and from what I've seen the colder the better. Melting snow is crazy horrible stuff to drive on

Matt is a beast - I would be wearing a jacket. Two things come to mind, why don't you have a set of aggressive snow chains? These are designed for heavy offroad equiptment >Babac Single & Double Diamond Studded Heavy Equipment Tire Chains. The second, 'should of taken the Bombi' was accurate - thank god it was an early snow without frozen ground and ice, the recovery could of been challenging.
Northern Canada here. Snow is not so different from sand once your used to it. That truck is Awesome for snow!! Spend more time in the snow and I'd bet it'd be great! Great Video DC!!@
The camera sees in the snow better than the eye can see. I was driving in a blizzard in Iowa. I could only see one paint stripe ahead of me. My phone camera could see 4 or five paint stripes ahead. The storm didn't look bad through the camera. Glad you got out safe.
Scary recovery! A slippery, sliding, adventure it was! My doubts subsided when Matt and the family provided the WL off-road wrecker that could handle the weather in blizzard like conditions. There was no sweat as they passed the test in the snow and ice. There was no frost bite! You guys got-er-done and made it look like fun in the wintery wonderland! Catch you on the next. ✌️ 😊
Rhett has become an indispensable personality in your cast of characters. I’m predicting girls’ hearts are melting all over the world watching and listening to this lovable guy.
In the winter I keep a small one strap pack in my rig with a warm hat that covers my ears, 2 pairs of gloves and some hand warmers. There is also an emergency blanket, a candle, a lighter, a hunting knife and a bottle of water. Its not that much but I am certain I could live for 2 days with that in some pretty bad conditions. I love watching all of you but it would be a lie to say it doesn't worry me sometimes the places you go without ANY type of survival stuff. Here in the PNW people have died 10 feet from a paved road when things turned bad fast. If I can't keep my pack dry I put everything in a garbage bag then stuff it in the pack. I know if something went wrong we would never see video of it, and I want to keep seeing videos.
17:28: When the treads are full of snow, the traction you have depends entirely on the snow. All snow that has been driven over is well on its way to being ice. Nice work.
Did not know Jefe was your cousin. As for Rhett’s cold hands I find it helpful to keep the core of your body extra warm allowing the body to circulate more blood to the extremities (feet and hands). Keeping the arms and legs warm also helps so you can use your hands when you need the dexterity of the fingers. Thanks for sharing
I really appreciate the editing ( Yukon Cornelius, Elvis, and the cameos of the fam) Always nice to go over who all the players are, for new views and for those of us that need a little reminding of names and birth order.
I live in the Northeast. I now live up in the mountains of Maine. Driving in the snow is an acquired skill and not necessarily easy. Where I live, you have to drive in the snow. If you waited for there to be no snow, you'd never leave the house.
The fact that your kids are referencing Elvis movies and Yukon Cornelius reconfirms everything I already thought I knew about you guys. You guys are great and it's been a long time since I looked forward to watching and keeping up with something, and I work in the industry. I torture my kids with all of the classics myself, it's sometimes tough work, but they come out of it smarter, stronger, and quite frankly more fun to be around. Long time listener, first time caller.
You should turn the windshield wipers on and use the defroster on the wrecker..................or............................ohhhhhhhhhhhhh nvrmnd............
4:42. No... Rhett. From a 'former' Desert Rat...You ARE a Desert Rat! Be proud of where you're from. 👍💪 12:00 Maybe there should be gloves as part of the 'pack out' for each vehicle?...a few pairs. They could easily be added to the vehicle inventory checklist. Each vehicle DOES have an inventory checklist that's checked prior to a job, right?
Agreed was thinking something similar to these > These are designed for heavy offroad equipment >Babac Single & Double Diamond Studded Heavy Equipment Tire Chains, Ive seen similar chains on log skidders used in forestry.
We love you guys! We never miss an episode. Dang guys!! always throw gloves and warm clothes in your truck for the snowy areas. We learned the hard way. Frost bitten fingers.
I had forgotten that Matt just ignores the cold and works in short sleeves! If anyone has driven a Corvair in the rain or snow, you should instantly recognize the universal defogger method Matt used at 20:39, altho using a paper towel works better. Fun, entertaining video!
We live in the Northeast mountains of NY and Vermont and all you need is CHAINS on the tires and you can drive in any snow on any mountain. Our long long 'driveway' is straight up a mountainside, for example.
Any snow on any mountain. In your area. So a tiny subset of the contiguous US, in which you have previous experience? C'mon out West. It doesn't even have to be 'my' West.
@@duder9752 It snowed yesterday. Will again, as per always. Most of Canada is having snow now, too. We call this 'winter' and we are just one step away from another Ice Age. Our INTERglacial period is nearly done. Go look at the history of the previous three centuries to see this dire pattern.

Chain up....or if you keep your rig below 10mph so it doesn't sling the anti-freeze off the tires pour anti-freeze on the tires this will keep the snowpack out and increase traction... this method has saved me more times than I can count....in the Sierra Nevada mtns in Reno NV
Antifreeze on tires is a great idea, thought he should chains like this. what do you think? Designed for heavy offroad equiptment >Babac Single & Double Diamond Studded Heavy Equipment Tire Chains. While aggressive you can always hang off the back of the wrecker just in case.
Ever since I've started getting into mechanics I've been watching your channel, more and more. I love the suspense of off road recovery's and big mechs doing the harder jobs. Love the work, keep it up, hope to get some merch soon!
I live in Northern New England, and it’s fun to see you guys struggling in the snow. This is just a Tuesday for us ;). To be fair, I’d probably be up to my frame in the sands in no time flat. I guess it’s all in what you know. lol. The wife & I are looking forward to coming out to do some wheelin’ in a couple years for a vacation. Seeing that truck, reminded me of the meme of a Ram truck that hit a pole and said “A little more Dodge, and a little less Ram”.
I was first like „tf ya have strong winds over there!“… tbh it was always fun when I was working over there in the winter and seeing so much people flying of the streets.
Has anyone in your family heard of gloves? They make a vast array of type and styles, if you don't need a lot of dexterity you can get the ones that are thicker and keep your hands warm, if you need a lot of dexterity they make them as well, just your hand get cold a little fast, but they still beat bare hand by far.
Matt is a beast in any weather. Living in South Florida I got frost bite just watching him work in short sleeves and wiping all that snow off of that hood with bare arms! WTF!
I find it amazing how cold tolerant Matt is! Everyone else are dressed like its freezing and Matt is in his usual short sleeve shirt! Must be a polar bear in his family tree!! LOL
Don't kid yourself, they live in the desert, he's just too "manly" to admit that he might need a coat. We'll see when he breaks down out there and has to sit in a cold azz truck waiting for help. Hopefully not but better to be prepared than risk the consequences.
I was thinking the same thing. They should have put mat in the back and let the kid drive 😆 dude seems impervious to cold. Not me I'm a little school girl below 50 degrees lol raised in PHX, Az we don't do well in cold.
Kangaroo rats have big ears and little bodies to increase surface area and stay cool, aquatic mammals have large bodies and short appendages to minimize heat loss. Matt is a large mammal, 6ft3 or so by my guesstimate, he’s not the Kangaroo rat in this comparison.😂 He also doesn’t have the Loop of Henley in his kidneys, that’s why we see him stealing sodas, but that’s a whole different discussion.
LOOKS like you should invest in a set of tire chains, for your Wrecker! We live in MAINE and THEIR a MUST! We watch you all the Time, every episode you put OUT!! LOVE your MORVAIR!
Better too have it, and not need it,than too need it and not have it! Get a cold weather bag together for the wrecker, jackets gloves, people might need it when you get too them. Scouts honor!!!!

Cold snow, yes. Slimey snow, not so much...😉
21:44 … Rhett’s almost _immediate_ answer of *”Rudy”* sent me laughing hysterically, then the silence afterwards had me in shambles! 😂😂😂😮
I came here looking for this exact comment lol
I thought he would say Carter for the second one
I just love this family.. such great examples of good humans
A true family
Very true..
The camera sees in the snow better than the eye can see. I was driving in a blizzard in Iowa. I could only see one paint stripe ahead of me. My phone camera could see 4 or five paint stripes ahead. The storm didn't look bad through the camera. Glad you got out safe.
Or it means you need glasses.
@@GarrettKovalI can only see five feet in front of me. These new iPhones are amazing 😂
I love how Matt is so patient and careful. Most people in that rig would just booney up the trail thinking they were invincible.
Rhett convinced me to buy a new winter coat. That one looks great!
Rhett has become an indispensable personality in your cast of characters. I’m predicting girls’ hearts are melting all over the world watching and listening to this lovable guy.
Rhett is our favorite crew.
Rhett will be the best ,after watching dad and bros and gals….He is the total package.😊
Uhhh... Ain't gonna be just girls bruh 😂 A guy like him is sure to lure out every boy so inclined in the post code
Y’all some creeps fr talking about a minor
"My hands are cold". That's a hint to wear gloves. ☺
Who does he think he is Matt?
@SSJIndy throw "common" sense out the window on this channel....derrrr
Hints are for kids. Grab a snickers. U r not the same when you’re cold.
The Iceman Cometh! How on Earth do you handle cold like that? I'm shivering just watching you Matt! Good work All !
Another epic recovery in the books! ❄💪
I am watching from Serbia first snow episode and today is also first snow falling in my country.
The snow storm felt around the world.
Here in Western Canada as well...expecting 40 cm tomorrow!
I read that as Siberia. And i was very confused.
Zdravo Srbija! 👍
@@billykid.935 🤣🤣🤣 common mistake
21:47 In the silence you can hear him think, "yup, that's true".
Matt need to put some windshield wipers back on the wrecker. Also need to put the defroster back on for the windshield
Keeping head and feet warm is primary.
Rhett's face when Kaulin says, "I'll sit here and drive," but he has to get out! Rhett got him back at the end though! 🤣
It would be nice for you to have a Q& A with your boys video
I really appreciate the editing ( Yukon Cornelius, Elvis, and the cameos of the fam) Always nice to go over who all the players are, for new views and for those of us that need a little reminding of names and birth order.
I live in the Northeast. I now live up in the mountains of Maine. Driving in the snow is an acquired skill and not necessarily easy.
Where I live, you have to drive in the snow. If you waited for there to be no snow, you'd never leave the house.

My thought too.
It would look so fkn good 🤤🤤
LOL @ the ending and the "Coolest Brother" HAHAH!!!
If Rhett was my brother, he’d be walking in the snow with his snowboard
@@squiggyg.8415 He was probably ready for it with something like "You're my hottest brother", especially since he was trying to warm up
Brotherly love right there 😂😂
And virtually no pause before he answered - ahahaha
Rhett was the coolest at that moment :D literally
The fact that your kids are referencing Elvis movies and Yukon Cornelius reconfirms everything I already thought I knew about you guys. You guys are great and it's been a long time since I looked forward to watching and keeping up with something, and I work in the industry. I torture my kids with all of the classics myself, it's sometimes tough work, but they come out of it smarter, stronger, and quite frankly more fun to be around. Long time listener, first time caller.
Videos like this is the reason why I love/follow Matt’s off road recovery. Job well done…
You should turn the windshield wipers on and use the defroster on the wrecker..................or............................ohhhhhhhhhhhhh nvrmnd............
Matt is tough! Short sleeve shirt in a snowstorm!
"He is a mammal. He can regulate his body temperature! " 😂😂😂
I remember there was a guy who got hit by lightning, and never needed to wear a coat again.
Wonder if Matt got zapped, lol...
The secret is to be active, of course you're going to be cold if you just sit.
Every time Matt touches hot metal, he stores that heat for cold days like this lol
@@aljosaskrabelj8412All humans are mammals.

Matt doesn't catch cold, cold catches Matt.
Imagine how much easier communication from vehicle to vehicle would be if there were some kind of wireless device to talk back and forth.
Matt has a radio in his wrecker. The second one might not have made it to the job.
That hill was pretty steep to the side! Once again, the wrecker's capability and Matt's road knowledge saved the day!
Kaulin and Rhett sure didn't inherit the "Nanook of the North" genes from their father. It must be that red beard that makes Matt so warm blooded!
Falling snow near the freezing point.. slippery as heck.. snow in the bitter cold.. quite grippy.
4:42. No... Rhett. From a 'former' Desert Rat...You ARE a Desert Rat! Be proud of where you're from. 👍💪
12:00 Maybe there should be gloves as part of the 'pack out' for each vehicle?...a few pairs. They could easily be added to the vehicle inventory checklist. Each vehicle DOES have an inventory checklist that's checked prior to a job, right?
Matt is an unnatural being. This man does not sweat on 100°+ days and stands in snow in a t shirt like it's a bright sunny day.
Playing in the snow,my favorite time of the year 🔆😁. Great job team.
That box clipped to your visor is a radio…. 😂
@@jondilly1974 LOL.....they only keep one on the wrecker....
Matt never gets cold. He's like a 🦣 Woolly Morrmoth lol.
Would be awesome to see y'all build monstrous tire chains for the offroad wrecker.
Good one on coolest brother and nice recovery 😊
Never seen you guys so cold!!! 🥶
We live in the Northeast mountains of NY and Vermont and all you need is CHAINS on the tires and you can drive in any snow on any mountain. Our long long 'driveway' is straight up a mountainside, for example.
Any snow on any mountain.

@@duder9752 It snowed yesterday. Will again, as per always. Most of Canada is having snow now, too. We call this 'winter' and we are just one step away from another Ice Age.

Easy to weld up a set of offroad tire chains or modify a set of logging skidder chains to fit.
The correct tires for every situation makes a big difference.
You guys really worked your butt on this adventure! You all deserve a victory pie 🥧
Matt has antifreeze running through his veins. The man never wears a coat, even under ice cold conditions
Yukon Cornelius! Perfect description… ❤
How does Matt and his boys remember all the names and songs that match up so well ?
Chain up....or if you keep your rig below 10mph so it doesn't sling the anti-freeze off the tires pour anti-freeze on the tires this will keep the snowpack out and increase traction... this method has saved me more times than I can count....in the Sierra Nevada mtns in Reno NV
Antifreeze on tires is a great idea, thought he should chains like this. what do you think? Designed for heavy offroad equiptment >Babac Single & Double Diamond Studded Heavy Equipment Tire Chains. While aggressive you can always hang off the back of the wrecker just in case.
Norwegian proverb: There is no bad weather, only bad clothing. sounds better in Norwegian
"Snow Storm Launches Ram Truck Off Mountain Trail". No, DRIVER launched Ram Truck off Mountain Trail.
I was first like „tf ya have strong winds over there!“… tbh it was always fun when I was working over there in the winter and seeing so much people flying of the streets.

Nice recovery on a very sketchy snow covered trail.
Kaulin and Rhett make it happen with dad's help.
Well done.
I’m really impressed with the way you train your sons. Great job as a father the recovery was good too
Has anyone in your family heard of gloves? They make a vast array of type and styles, if you don't need a lot of dexterity you can get the ones that are thicker and keep your hands warm, if you need a lot of dexterity they make them as well, just your hand get cold a little fast, but they still beat bare hand by far.
Funny! I have a box of work/emergency stuff in my truck and in that are at least 4 pairs of gloves. Summer ones, winter ones, etc.
Nope. No snowstorm lauched that truck off the mountain trail. Human did that. 😎
Good morning everybody and Happy Friday!!
Matt is a beast in any weather. Living in South Florida I got frost bite just watching him work in short sleeves and wiping all that snow off of that hood with bare arms! WTF!
You guys are so fun to watch, love the father son dynamic. Also, that angle was great to watch!
I've often wondered what matt looks like with a coat on.
Wim Hof is smiling!
Kangaroo rats have big ears and little bodies to increase surface area and stay cool, aquatic mammals have large bodies and short appendages to minimize heat loss.
Matt is a large mammal, 6ft3 or so by my guesstimate, he’s not the Kangaroo rat in this comparison.😂
He also doesn’t have the Loop of Henley in his kidneys, that’s why we see him stealing sodas, but that’s a whole different discussion.
17:09 y’all have radios why don’t you use them?? Makes things A LOT easier
Rhets complaining about the cold meanwhile Mats wearing short sleeves.
And clearing the snow off of the Dodge hood with his bare arms and hands.

LOOKS like you should invest in a set of tire chains, for your Wrecker! We live in MAINE and THEIR a MUST! We watch you all the Time, every episode you put OUT!! LOVE your MORVAIR!
I can feel the sibling love at the end from here. Kaulin got the first answer and was like "that's fair," then pushed for the complete let down. 😄

All I can say is get those boys some Milwaukee heated jackets best investment I ever made
Better too have it, and not need it,than too need it and not have it! Get a cold weather bag together for the wrecker, jackets gloves, people might need it when you get too them. Scouts honor!!!!
That was fun, thank you.
