I have 2 toby jugs that are seconds the stamp has been drilled out on both. They are character jugs i love them. Royal Doulton is the first class. Those cups and plates are beautiful. 🇬🇧
Thank you sir,! Yes, great points and thanks to you...I happily purchased some Royal Crown Derby soup bowls SECONDS and in my opinion the flaws which are hard to find in the first place make them even more special knowing some one hand Painted those bowls. Cheers to you !
Hi I’m so glad I found you. Great info. I was able to go to an outlet royal Albert store in my town for years before they closed and learned so much and added to my 1st China I had. Can you give links to where I can but 2nds again. Ty
Hi, I have fond memories of shopping at the outlet stores for Royal Albert and Wedgewood as well. Below is a link that shows company stores. I would think they would have seconds. If none are near you, I am sure you could order them over the phone. I bought Royal Albert Lady Carlyle seconds over the phone once when we were going to have a tea and needed them quick and didn't have time to make the trip. www.royalalbert.com/about-us/company-stores
I've got two fine bone china cups one is royal albert lavender rose. On both cups there is a pimple that is stained dark colour. It's not even as big as a pinhead but it's bugging me.Does anyone know what I can use to draw the dark colour out.? Ps thanks for the video it's very interesting😊
I just came across a Royal Albert coffee pot, sugar bowl, and cream jar. Also eight cups & saucers. I think they're 14-16 ounce cups. It looks beautiful with no damage that an amateur like me can spot. I'm just an old wild punk rocker, but I know high class shizit when I see it, so I grabbed these things from being thrown out! I'm gonna keep two cups for me and my imaginary friend to drink coffee with, and sell the rest as a set to a pawn shop. I couldn't imagine packing it all to sell, so the pawn star is gonna have to come get this set. Is $150 too low? I better look around online for a place to sell.
Typically they are marked but I have seen some that were missed. If they make it past quality control they are sold as first quality. I have also seen a few second quality pieces that I could not find an issue with.
In some ways it is better (less lead). However, if you want really nice dinnerware that you can use I would buy English productions from the 1980s or 1990s. It is new enough and is made in England. Why have English china if it isn't English? If you want new china made in England I highly recommend Spode. Most of the Blue Italian pieces are being made in England again. If you want casual English china I recommend Blue Willow by Churchill (Queens) most of it is made in England too. If Royal Albert is what you want then I would buy from the 1980s or 1990s as I mentioned above. The quality of their Indonesian pieces are not bad at all but again, they are not made in England. Hope this helps!
@@finechinaman3448 Quite so - no matter how appealing the pattern etc, it lacks verisimilitude when the back stamp lets it down. I've read some that say in large bold letters, "Designed in England", followed by (in far smaller print), "made in China". Thank you for sharing your trained eye.
@@kathleenlaudehr1988 My mother had a set of those too which I now have. It is an excellent pattern to have and is very famous. The thing I like about it is they made so many special pieces for that pattern over the years. They still make it but current production is from Indonesia.
I would say a good English 2nd is worth about 25% less than a first quality English piece. However, I would say an English 2nd is more valuable than a non English 1st.

Great information. Nice to see so many patterns in your videos!
Thank you for making this video!
I love seconds they are more unique and have the personality of the markers.
I love your videos.

Hi! Thank you! I have a piece marked as a second by a gold dot/slash near the name. Have you come across those?
Royal Albert? I am not aware of them doing that unless you mean that extra gold is why it is being considered a 2nd. That can happen.
Are Royal Albert seconds always marked? I’ve found a couple of flaws on my Old Country Roses teacups with no second quality mark.
Typically they are marked but I have seen some that were missed. If they make it past quality control they are sold as first quality. I have also seen a few second quality pieces that I could not find an issue with.
Is vintage China better quality than the modern stuff they make now. I see new Royal Albert is very expensive. Is it worth it?

I have a set my grandfather bought for my grandmother over 36 years ago. The stamp has no crown or date in it.
What does the stamp say?
@@finechinaman3448 they all say, old country roses, royal albert, bone china, england. I used commas as the end of each line no scratches either.
