In the 80's, I was a huge fan of a band called Oingo Boingo that was lead by Danny Elfman, who wrote all the music for this movie as well as being the singing voice for Jack. Most recently he wrote the theme for the new series "Wednesday" which I recommend.
He made some of the best and most well known movie themes and music! Such a brilliant man
For me , this is one of those musicals where you don't know the lyrics off the top of your head but once the music starts you follow along perfectly with the tempo and gusto
Batman Returns and Tim Burton's Nightmare Before Christmas are two of the best Christmas movies. Tim Burton directed Batman Returns while for Nightmare Before Christmas he was the producer but the overall style of these two films are very Tim Burton which is why he's heavily connected to these films.
Tim Burton usually directs the live-action stuff he works on. For animation, he's usually the producer and executive producer.

Burton personally directed the animated films Corpse Bride and Frankenweenie.
A window of opportunity came along when Burton was very hot and Disney agreed to take a huge chance on an unconventional dark departure from what Disney was known for.
Disney owned all the characters and story as Burton conceived it in his time working as a Disney animator. Burton had to jump on that chance to get this film made in the pure creative vision he saw. He couldn’t tell Warner Brothers and the world to hold off on a Batman sequel to take two years to make a stop motion movie with characters no one had heard of.
Selick was hired as a work for hire director to facilitate Tim Burton’s vision.
Tim Burton created all the characters, came up with the plot, developed the story with Danny Elfman as they closely worked together coming up with all the songs which told the story before there was any script pages ever even written.
This movie is my personal record for movie seen the most times while it was in theaters. It's been so long I forget the exact number but something like 12-15 times in the first 3 months it was out. It would have been more but my parents refused to take me to the movies to see it again after month 3 (though they only saw it with me once. They just dropped me off and picked me up afterwards) and everyone from friends to cousins I had tagged along with didn't want to see it again.
I have it on VHS and DVD (the special edition with Vincent and Frankenweenie on it). When this came out I was just obsessed with it. I mean, the only stop motion animation stuff I'd ever seen in movies was like the original King Kong and Ray Harryhausen films (Jason and the Argonauts and Clash of the Titans) but those were mostly live action with stop motion scenes here and there. This was just all stop motion animation of a quality beyond anything I'd ever seen from start to finish. I didn't even know movies like this COULD be made.
It was a box office and critical success, making $90 million dollars against a $17 million dollar budget, and it was nominated for Best Visual Effects but lost to JURASSIC PARK.

Jack Skellington's singing voice (and the composer of the score) is Danny Elfman, who used to be the frontman for a rock band called Oingo Boingo. That was one of his first scores. He's done well over 100 scores, and released some solo efforts as well. Oingo Boingo used to play places around Southern California every Halloween season. They broke up in 1995.

If you loved this, then you'll absolutely LOVE The Muppet Christmas Carol!!! I recommend the fully restored version (find it under extras), 'cause otherwise, you'll be confused about one certain scene. The movie wasn't made by Tim Burton's team, but if you loved the story of "A Christmas Carol", then the Muppet version is for sure one to watch (that's not to say that other screen adaptations are good in their own right (for example, "Mickey's Christmas Carol"), but the Muppets' take on it is the most well-known and most beloved). And hey, check out the 2009 film starring Jim Carrey. If you've seen him in films like "The Mask" and "The Grinch", you'll like that film, too. Edit: Ladies and gentlemen, Paul Reubens as the voice of Lock.

This is one of my favorite movies of all time
It's a musical AND it's got long sections of poetry as the narrative. Quite a whimsical work of genius, supreme artistry, and patience! It's also a lesson in being satisfied with what you do best as well as approach a new "project" with less than reckless abandon.
A whole city of monsters and the only one to be scared of is a bag of bugs.

Stop-motion animation is by far the most difficult form of animation you could ever imagine because everything has to be done all at once and it’s not good to just stop because the lights would not come back the same intensity as they were before. Just to get a minute of film in stop-motion would take 150 hrs.
This movie is an absolute classic. You can watch it for Halloween or Christmas.

Alyska, i'm glad you liked it, i had the vhs of it , and Patrick Stewart from the Xmen originally did the intro speech about the holiday tree doors, but they later took his voice out of it and replaced it with Otho from Beetlejuice, i don't know why. but that made me think that Patrick Stewart might be Mr Freeze in Batman 4 by Tim Burton because this came out after Batman Returns by Tim Burton i think, which had Catwoman and Penguin.
Tim Burton's Edward Scissorhands is another great "Christmas movie" (of sorts) that I'd highly recommend. Danny Elfman, who wrote the music for Nightmare Before Christmas also wrote the music for Edward Scissorhands, as he did with many of Burton's movies.

Saw this in theaters and was blown away on how good it was. It's been a staple movie to watch just after Thanksgiving for me ever since. The Songs are fantastic. The Art style is crazy good. I vibe with the aesthetic.

Well, if you think about it, Jack is literally the ruler and figurehead for, not just a country (or a city-state; whatever Halloween Town is), but an entire holiday. For one night a year, he effectively rules the world - at least, all parts of it that celebrate Halloween (and that's a fair amount, these days). With that degree of importance, why wouldn't he have an ego? Really, it's amazing he's so humble.
Funfact: both oogie boogie and Sally weren't in the original poem of a nightmare before Christmas. Disney added them to give jack a love interest and a villain

I have seen almost every Tim Burton movie and my favorites are Edward Scissorhands, Batman, Batman Returns, and The Nightmare Before Christmas I hope you react to Tim Burton's Batman it's really good so is Superman: The Movie those movies are in my opinion the greatest superhero movies ever made and I hope you react to them one day because you can see how much they influenced modern superhero movies

My uncle loves this one. I've never been a fan of still motion picture cause I thought it looked creepy but the songs in this one are really good. I especially like Jacks lament. If you react to another musical I request it'd be Tick Tick Boom. Merry Halloween/ Happy Christmas.

You can watch Nightmare Before Christmas any time between October and December. I used to like to go to Disneyland around this time of year because they change The Haunted Mansion from Oct to Dec to a Nightmare Before Christmas theme
With Christmas coming up, may I make a recommendation if that's OKay? I recommend Ernest Saves Christmas. It's a Christmas classic. It has Douglas Seale as one of the best movie Santa Clauses ever. Plus, it's just really funny and heartwarming. It's got that certain Christmas charm that's perfect for the holiday. It's a perfect way to continue celebrating the Christmas season.

If you like the music then I highly recommend an album called ‘Nightmare Revisited’ which is the soundtrack re-imagined by contemporary artists such as Marilyn Manson, Korn, Fall Out Boy and Amy Lee (of Evanescence) among others. It’s awesome!
No offense but while i really love the movie and the soundtrack is arguably best thing Danny Elfman did to date, the whole covers disc really felt short for me. Hard to improve something so perfect.
