The Nightmare Before Christmas (also known as Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas) is a 1993 American stop-motion animated musical dark fantasy film directed by Henry Selick in his feature directorial debut and produced and conceived by Tim Burton. It tells the story of Jack Skellington, the King of "Halloween Town", who stumbles upon "Christmas Town" and schemes to take over the holiday. Danny Elfman wrote the songs and score and provided the singing voice of Jack.[6] The principal voice cast includes Chris Sarandon, Catherine O'Hara, William Hickey, Ken Page, Paul Reubens, Glenn Shadix, and Ed Ivory.
This is the BEST HOLIDAY MOVIE OF ALL TIME. I’m actually flabbergasted that you haven’t seen this.

I LOVED this movie as a kid. Halloween is my fave holiday and have been watching horror since I was 3, so this was perfect for me. And so many good songs in it.
Always fun watching Jay. We still gotta get her through some more classics and some more Black Classics, at that, cuz ma'am, there's some things she needs to see... lol

I think that Oogie Boogie(the Boogyman) had raised them and was such a bad influence on them. I mean even tge town song says "we look bad but we're not mean, in our town of Halloween", so they aren't supposed to be actually evil, just spooky. And that's why Oogie Boogie is the villain, because he was actually evil. And his evil influenced those kids behavior.

Inspiration Origin Fact: Tim Burton has said the original poem was inspired after seeing the Halloween merchandise display in a store being taken down and replaced by a Christmas display. The juxtaposition of ghouls and goblins with Santa and his reindeer sparked his imagination.
Music Enthusiast Fact: In Oogie Boogie's (Ken Page) Song, there was a story boarded sequence where bugs came out of Oogie's eye and danced on his arm before he belches them off. It was removed from the film because it was considered difficult to make miniature armatures for all the bugs. Another scrapped scene involved his shadow dancing on a rotating orange background and was traditionally animated but ended up being cut for timing. Despite this, the lyrics during these scenes were included in the film's soundtrack.
Math Enthusiast Fact: A crossed-out calculation on Jack's (Chris Sarandon) blackboard seems to equate 3 times the square of pi multiplied by 12 to Christmas Day (a Santa hat). The true numerical answer is approximately 355.31. If the decimal portion is dropped, this then equates to December 21st, the 355th day of the year--hence the crossed-out equation. December 21st however is the first day of winter in the northern hemisphere (winter solstice). It is also the birthday of Jeffrey Katzenberg, the film's executive producer and most often credited for turning Walt Disney Studios and its animation division around after joining in 1984.
Danny Elfman did Jacks singing, he also wrote all the music too. He's famous for also writing the Simpson theme, the Men in Black and Beetlejuice.

The nightmare before Christmas became so loved that Disney takes their haunted mansion ride and themes it after the movie , though sadly Disney world doesn’t 😢 so I’ve never got to see it , but boy I wish I could lol

I think the reason you thought 2008 is because that's when it was originally released on bluray. It was the first bluray I ever bought cause that shit was just starting to come out. I'm old so I saw this in theater as a kid!

i saw this movie for the first time in theatres when i was in middle school for a re-release that they did in 2007-2008 so that could be what you're thinking of!

The amount of times you said “Jack really stole Christmas” reminds me of my own first watch. There are actually a surprising amount of similarities between Jack and Grinch. To the point that I kinda want to read a fanfic where Grinch dies and becomes Jack, like they’re literally the same person. That sounds like a fun concept 😅

Oogie boogie was from another holiday that was bug related and it was cancelled so Jack allowed him to live in Halloween town. There is a canon sequel to this movie in a Gameboy color game, that gives more backstory to oogie.
Sally was the only one in that town with some common sense 😅😅😅
