Recently purchased this new Blade v8 16x19 and got to have an extended hitting session with it yesterday against someone of a higher skill level (~4.5, I'm a 4.0). Mark is spot on in almost all regards! My only slight disagreement would be for his comments on the slice as I did not experience any issues with trajectory or depth of slice. The suggested added weight would definitely improve the slices for anyone that does feel the same, but to me it was good enough. Side note: slicing against shots with pace were a dream. I also did not have any feelings of "lack of power and instability near the hoop of the head," but this seems to be a finer and more detailed criticism.
Overall, bang on review Mark! This racket is exactly what you said. It's fast/maneuverable yet stable enough overall, comfortable/plush while retaining connection to the ball (not mushy at all), and overall a great modern frame! Would highly suggest people give it a try :)
Some context: I am a "long time" pro staff user (9+ years), recently switched to this new blade from the Pro Staff 97 v13. I loved the Pro Staff, but was looking for something more forgiving and comfortable. I don't have any elbow or wrist issues, but figured it was good to go to something more comfortable and plush now and thank myself for it later down the line.
Current strings in my blades: 1) Poly Tour Rev/Poly Tour Pro (16g, 55 lbs) and 2) Confidential/Poly Tour Pro (16g, 55 lbs)
Did you try the Ultra Pro 16x19? I just want a softer pro staff but the blade v7 was a dissaster, really weird flex and way too mushy
@@sebastiancastellanos6165 I haven't tried the Ultra Pro, but I will say that I mirror your thoughts exactly on the blade v7. Thought it was way too mushy, really did not like it personally. This blade is very plush and comfortable but still provides you the feel and connection to the ball. If you're looking for a "softer" pro staff, I think this would be a great stick to demo! It's going to have more pop than the pro staff, but you also will get more forgiveness.
how are these string setups?
@@FirestarG1 between the two I preferred the confidential setup as the stiffer mains helped to give me slightly more control than the rev, which felt livelier. This blade is more powerful than my previous pro staff, so I am definitely looking for a stiffer setup w/ my strings (combination of a decently stiff string + higher tension than I normally went in my pro staff). Not a huge fan of confidential, has always felt a tad muted to me. Will continue to test strings to find a great combo for me personally.
I think he has a technical issue with his slice back hand. The racquet is too laid back thus sending the ball in an upward trajectory.

Mark maybe you need to work on that slice. This is one of the best rackets I have played with for the slice shot. I am a very experienced player so maybe at different levels the racket feels different. You use your arm way more than the shoulder turn, unit turn, and your step into the shot therefore your lack of power. Try turning your shoulder more placing the racket in the balls path then step in with your body while carving the ball with underspin and placement. You will get much more power and depth. Just arming the ball with a whipping stroke gives loss of power and placement. Thus making you hate the racket for slice. Sometimes it is not the hammer but the person swinging it.
Overcomplicated advise imo. Slice is all about feel. Racquet finish higher than the point of impact, lean in, follow through. Those are the main points.

Interesting review. I tried this racket. First two dates I was in love. 3rd and 4th date I was hitting badly. It's not a forgiving racket, and lacks power especially if you're feeling tired and just not focused. But on a good day, this racket plays amazing and can unleash heavy balls.
Love the review! Funny part is I actually LOVED it on slice and that's one of the things that won me over and now I own 2. That's the ONLY thing I disagree with you on though. String setup might have to do with it too... I'm using VS Touch Gut 16g in mains at 57lbs and 17g RPM Blast in crosses at 54lbs.
How is the power of the racquet? specially with 57 in main? I am thinking to do the same with lower tension in main and having Alu power in cross

Hello. I would like to know if you would recommend this racket to me when I am quite a beginner and I have been on the court about 25 times this season. I tried the Wilson Clash 100 and it wasn't bad but so far I've only played with my insanely hard Wilson hammer 4.2 and I'm a little bothered by how much the Clash springs. And now I'm deciding whether to buy a Clash or a Blade v8 ... I'm a 185cm tall man

the version 7 was one of my fav rackets i tried last year was an all arounder. just did earthing right with selinco G full bed 50lb

Hey Mark. Great channel. Please could you highlight a bit of a con by Wilson to include the new Blade 101L v8 in its new line up when it is basically a v7 with a new paint job. It doesn't have the new DirectConnect for FortyFive technology yet it is being advertised as a v8 when clearly it is not. I know as I've just bought one!

re: slice...I think your issue with slice from the baseline is more about defense than offense. I found that this racquet was great at slice as an actual approach shot rather than a defensive back-foot slice where a heavier frame will help. That's the trade-off for maneuverability.
i just got the V 8 and im going to use solinco confidential for it. tension 52
this is an attacking players racket, good review dont agree with the slice comments however it does lack stability for defensive block shots when playing bigger hitters but its manourvability makes up for it, just add abit of led, luckily i love to attack most shots this racket gives me more confidence to do so after the pro staff rf edition it's much easier
We don't blame the racket or anything else. We have to only adjust our stroke. 🙂👍🎉💖🙏
I think you ought to try the Six.One 100 ProStaff. For me, it's the perfect blend...and it's GREAT on returns!👍
A playing partner of mine switched to it from the Yonex ezone and vcore racquets. He has been smashing balls with it. There are times when his shots are so good that I am shaking my head like wtf. It is great in returns and for hitting flat shots as his results are night and day compared to the Yonexes.
@@dustyroot4708 indeed. Both my son and I switched and the level of our play has risen considerably. Great feel and control with adequate power. It's not at all what we expected from it's more "tweener" specs!

I want to play test this one since it came out but it is out of stock everywhere. I wanted to test it against my Radical MP 2021 since I was maybe looking for a same type of racket but with slightly less swingweight en a little bit more flex. But I couldnt, there were no demo's available for the next month (already gone) so I bought a second Radical MP 2021 since I just played awesome with that racket. If any one has tried both the Radical MP 2021 vs this Blade 16*19 v8 please share your thoughts.
I'm exactly om the same spot. I doing good with my Radical MP. But i do miss the serves and the blade feel. I used the v6, but i felt the higher sw wasn't for me. I used v7 and it was too underpowered and too flex. I'm very curious about this v8, it's seems to be close to the radical in some specs, but better on serves and volleys, and quicker in the air...
@@faustobaldo I can serve really well with the Rad, flat and spins. I don't think the blade will be much different for me there, maybe less powerful. The V8 Blade is with volleys maybe more faster in the air but TW specs say that the Rad has a better/higher twistweight, so maybe more stable on contact. And for me the maneuverability is Very good with the Rad. So maybe the blade is not "better" per see, just different. a good demo will give answers which one will fit someone better, but I dont expect very big differences. I chose the Rad now because from other reviews I read that the Rad has a much better spin potential than the blade and is a bit more powerful which I like. But I am still curious about the flex/touch and the swingweight since I could enjoy that too.
Yes completely agree with you; the spin of the radical is very good, for groundstrokes is awesome, at serves too, but i used to serve better with my old blades (win more free points). it's just a matter of taste. This the most solid Radical i have seen so far; but i will always be curious with the new Blades, it's my guilty pleasure, Radical's is where all have begun haha
Mark, I am looking at the Blade V8…. A little undecided as to whether to go with 16x19 or 18x20…Even though I use a SW forehand , I still tend to go flat..definitely not a loopy stroke. I have a one-handed backhand and hit mostly flat drives and occasional slice. I have soft hands , therefore touch ( drop shots, etc.) is very important. From your perspective and experience, which string setup would you recommend? ( I also noticed that most of the WTA players who endorse the Blade, don’t actually use it… a paint job)

Great video but the reason why you're having trouble with the slice is because of your follow through and you need to hit your slice with your body forward with a shoulder dip.
It's also very stable if you can time your shots properly and that applies on all rackets
Make a video so we can criticize your form too.

May I suggest getting some ND filters for your drone? The droneshots with lots of movement (0:40 for example) are so hard to watch due to the lack of motion blur :P

What is the flex like
What are the major differences between the Blade and Pro Staff line? Both seem to be control oriented.
From my experience, Blade is slightly more modern (aka power) oriented than the rest of the pro staff line.

PS are also more heavy and headlight. Both great rackets
The PS97 is much less forgiving than the Blade. Smaller sweet spot. The Blade plays similarly as they are both control oriented but the Blade is lighter and more forgiving. I play with both and I’m giving up my PS97, it’s just too demanding for me and I’m a 4.0. So far the Blade works for me but I’m going to keep testing other racquets.
Mark have you switched to Pure Aero or Pure Aero Vs ? Strung with hyper g 1.25 ?

Do test Babolat Pure Aero (opt for Rafa version), i think because the price are similar and im a fab of both Babolat and Wilson.

I wonder how this v8 differs from my v7. I've seen a lot of reviews saying this is easier to play with than previous versions. Only thing I changed about my v7 is a leather grip to get a more headlight balance.

Nice and honest review, but I don’t agree with you on the slices. I have never played a better slice in my life since playing with this racket (for two months now). My level has increased (a lot) since playing with this Blade. Also in terms of hitting a volley or smash.
Im a high school player and I played with the v7 before demoing the v8. So far I really dislike the v8, and feel that its more head heavy and less maneuverable. I also get less power(interestingly enough).
I never tried the 16x19 v7 blade 😤
Sounds a lot like the late pro staff 95 (2014) which flexed a lot towards the tip and was very manoeuvrable overall with great touch and feel at the net. Massive loss of power whenever you hit close to the tip. I’m not entirely convinced re. your opinion on slices because I would always expect having anyway
As far as slice, maybe change your grip to bevel 1 or 1.5. And don’t rotate body.

@@hungrylance I wanted to switch from the Babolat RPM Blast to something cheaper. Tried the Yonex Poly Tour Pro first. Was not too bad, but just not my string. Then tried the Solinco Hyper-G. Awesome, but not cheaper than the RPM Blast. I probably still would have switched. Then I tried the Lynx Tour because it is also 6 sided like the Hyoer-G. Man this thing is Godly. It feels and plays even better than the Hyper-G and I have never played a string that felt better on flat first serves.
Aaaand. In Germany, the Hyper-G reel (200m) costs around 130€, the RPM Blast around 140€. I just got a reel of the Head Lynx Tour for 77,95€.
One thing: I tried the orange one and ordered, the nude color. I hope they play the same. But I think if there are any differences, they might be minor.
And one last addition. The string broke after 5 hours of playing on clay. But so does the RPM Blast and also The Hyper-G.
I am currently using a Babolat Pure Aero Tour.
Oooh sounds awesome! Will def have to try it! Been looking for some good spin and control strings (currently using vcore95) and these have definitely popped up. My only concern is that i do like to swing through and am worried about strings that give a little too much power haha. But maybe its more my technique if anything :p
@@hungrylance The Head Lynx Tour is actually relatively low powered. Here is a quote from the tennis-warehouse review I can definetly confirm:
"Lynx Tour offered lots of control. I was able to take full cuts at the ball without fear of overhitting thanks to the lower-powered response."

Karue from My Tennis HQ is playing the VCore95 with the Head Lynx Tour. You might also want to have a look at his channel. I think there is a video where he explains his setup. He is a former pro with a highest ranking of 300 something in the world.
