    Awesome video. I really dig it as well as your reel cover up video. Do you think you can do a short video on the spreader bar you built for your decoys? That would bring it all together.

    Good idea using the dive reel and laundry reel, but I hunt in very rocky ground so I can’t drive a stake. Instead I use a 1-lb kayak anchor and 15’ of black stretch cord and get over 20’ of movement. I will try the dive reel!

    Thanks for the idea and the video. I will definitely give this a try. Really like the reel action and not having to wave my arms when trying to jerk the traditional set up. I also hunt out of a skiff and the waves and ripples sometimes draw attention to my hide and not to the decoys

    Mate this is awesome, I'm from New Zealand and shoot on a small creek so any movement helps the duck spot the creek and this is ideal thanks.
    I will have to modify it a bit to make it work but looking forward to whipping this we treat up and giving it a go this weekend!

    It would be sweet to see how you set up the decoys... I'm not quite understanding how you are getting those decoys to swim the way that they do and that's one of the coolest parts of this set up!

    That's awesome! I want to make one now with some tackle hanging off of it. That would work great for those 'hard to cast' places. It would be perfect for fishing in streams or narrow parts of a lake. Tie it off to a tree, toss it across the water with a weight hooked on it, run around and hook up my tackle. Then I could fish all day and not get my lures stuck in the tree above me!
    🤘😆

    I guess since you put this out. I been using one of these about 25 years. Here’s a couple things. An anchor with just 8-10’ of string past the pole helps stabilize it in muck so it don’t pull over. A couple in line helps too. Couple versions but more importantly. If you put a 1/2” pipe 5’ inside a 3/4” and get a 1/2” clamp you have an adjustable pole. Also a yo-yo or Cuban real works best cause what we do is pull all the tension out of the puller and lock it in one of those cheap kayak anchor clamps. The one Where it’s got ridges backwards. Or just put a loop in main line and put it on somewhere a cleat or bolts or whatever ready to release. Then if you got interest just release it and let it go back on its own. Put the yo-yo on or in something where it just spools out. Milk crate with towel in it etc. If you want to be fancy… since they are adjustable, use two off the same main line. Kayak I use 1. Boat we use 2. And often no other decoys…

    • @MrT13
      @MrT13 9 місяців тому

      The spreader bars we make are just pvc + with bungee in just one direction so it pulls apart and folds up quickly and goes in the same bag as the poles, reels, anchor, yo-yo everything. Get a pop up canopy replacement carry case… they are like 15$ everything two full sets 2 anchors poles everything goes in one bag with wheels on it…

    I applaud your creativeness..... I did discover a flaw. The clothesline retractor....it is not a very strong spring....if the line or a decoy hangs up on a weed, its not powerful enough to retract especially given the overall weight of 5 decoys and wet cord. Given where I hunt or where others hunt, it might be a hinderance rather than a benefit over some type of bungee.

      @@KainOutdoors I picked up this project again .. for some reason the retractable cord unit I picked up from my hardware store seems pretty weak, or at least doesn't seem to have the pull strength to want to retract just the cord I connected it to. I haven't tried it in water yet, just have it in the air. I used PVC cord, I'm thinking maybe the line is too long and so is too heavy?

      Take a crab pot buoy paint it flat black , run a piece of 2 or 3 foot schedule 40 PVC or three-quarter inch EMT through the top and bottom of the crab Buoy, let The conduit hang down about 2 feet below your buoy, take whatever length of rope you need for your depth tie a 10 or 15 pound weight to one end , then run rope through conduit through the bottom and tie a knot once you’re through the top, adjust the rope for whatever depth you’re at and then Clamp it , attach your clothesline rig to conduit below the buoy make sure your rope is tight and your weight is heavy. Play around with length of PVC or conduit and how heavy your weight is until you’re happy with it, bouy we will move a little bit but it will just look like a black duck or a diver. Good luck hope this wasn’t confusing

      Tried it. I think the cord has enough synthetic in it that it doesn't take the dye well. I used a really dark green, but the finished product is only about 1/3 as dark as it should be given the strength of dye I used. (I used about twice as much dye per unit of water.) I think I'm going to use #36 bank line for mine.

      @Tyler Stanfield @Stephen Hendrickson Just to clarify, the line i have to the dive reel has a loop on the end. I attach that to the carabiner on the retractor. About 3-4 feet up the line I tied a loop that has a spring clip. Thats what attaches to one of the outside decoys. That way when the line is fully retracted the decoy spreader is still 3-4 feet away from the retractor reel.
