  • Found what appeared to be a pretty significant oil leak on my 2015 Husqvarna FE 501. After further diagnosis turns out it was just a worn out Dome Washer. Don't go replacing that countershaft seal if you don't need too. Sometimes things are as simple as they seem. Comment below to share similar experiences or questions on this repair.

My bike started leaking yesterday. Washer is not that old and isn't loose so I think my seal is compromised. Noticed in the video that you have installed the chain quick clip master link backwards, the closed end should be aligned with the direction of chain travel. Thanks for the video!

Thanks for watching and hopefully you get yours sorted. The seal isn't that hard to replace as well. Mine is still good from this repair. Good eye on the master link! That was also righted quite a while back.

I have the same kind of oil leak on my 2018 450 Husky, first thing I did was replacing only the seal. Didn't work, it started leaking again after a couple of rides. I bought a full repair kit that includes the seal, the o-ring and the spacer, started working again today and removed the sproket and spacer to find that the seal and the o-ring are apparently looking good. I stopped the work there and started a bit of research here on youtube. After watching your video I'm pretty sure that my issue is extactly the same as yours, since the washer was also loose, and it has been loose for a while now, but I didn't think it mattered much as long as the bolt was properly torqued, clearly I will just repace the washer (that happens to come also with the full kit) and I'm quite sure it will work. At least now I have a spare full rep kit just in case the next time it is actually the seal.
Tomorrow I will get back to work on the bike and will do the same test as you did, letting it rest on the side stand and wait for the oil to appear, this will do to confirm the theory and finish the job with pretty much guaranteed success.
Thanks for your video, I learned a very good lesson. Also I will come and share if I finish the job properly and the leak disappears.

Hey Rob.. yeah that is a frustrating process to find such a simple solution right? As you mentioned even if the bolt is tightened to spec what happens it’s that dome washer loses its shape and flattens out not keeping pressure against the countershaft. Good luck, glad you found the video helpful!
