    I replaced mine with an allballs kit and took advice to grease it all up first. The grease caused it to leak when riding, I had to clean it all off.

    Could you guys do a video/ show more about that light bar setup? That is totally awesome and I’ve thought of using the Tusk light bar for that.

    thats kinda crazy how its only a snap ring holding on the sprocket. you know the thing that you rely on to move the machine.

      Interesting that you say that. Got home this afternoon and oil was pissing out of ky sprocket. Opened it up and the seal somehow pulled in front of the snap ring and now I'm figuring out how to get the seal out without speciality tools. 😅

    The sprocket bolts break all the time it’s bull red lock tight with a junk metal bolt and if your lucky enough to get it out you should use a new bolt it will come with red lock tight on it brush it off and use blue so it comes off easier next time I wish I had the nut like yours does instead of the bolt

    Good morning and thank you for the great video.
    I guess I got a little carried away when trying to put the seal back in and ended up damaging the case. My question..
    Does the seal ride along a race that can be replaced or did I damage the actual case? Either way I can’t find the race or information about it. (2004 KTM 250sx)

    Do you need to drain the oil beforehand?

    • @rmatvmc
      @rmatvmc  5 років тому +8

      Its not necessary, you'll probably have a little more oil come out while doing this job if its not drained. You can also lean the bike over a bit when you're changing it and you shouldn't lose very much oil that way either.
      Thanks for watching!

    • @rmatvmc
      @rmatvmc  8 місяців тому

      Make sure you have the correct seal by matching it up with the old seal. Once you've done that, grease the inside and outside of the seal and try using a bit of heat on the case where the seal will go. Also, check that your socket you're using to drive in the seal is sized properly and isn't hitting on the countershaft or the case.

  • @surfnskate1147
    @surfnskate1147 6 років тому +1

    Might be a dumb question but if I had a bad seal, would the sprocket have to be spinning in order to leak? I’ve whipped everything down and let the bike idle for a while and it’s dry as a whistle, do you think I’m good to go?

    • @rmatvmc
      @rmatvmc  6 років тому

      *Cameron* Sometimes, yes. Seals aren't too pricey. It's best to simply replace the countershaft shaft seal and clean and inspect your countershaft.

    Super helpful video. My only advice though is to never buy an aftermarket o-ring. Buy the OEM o-ring from the bike Mfr. It'll save the hassle of repeating the process. It's just not worth trying to 'figure out' the right o-ring dimensions on aftermarket.

    • @travisk1487

      lol that is a big misconception on these bikes. the "Transmission oil" is in reality engine oil. there isnt a seperate pan for it like in cars. it is all the same. if it has oil coming out. it is your countershaft seal.

    • @rmatvmc

      Manufacturers typically call for grease on seals. I think it lubricates better and longer to help the seal seat to the surface.
