So I recently got into elden ring and I wanted to learn how to parry. I was doing what he told me and when I was fighting the first boss it took me 5 hours and 30 minutes to beat idk why I was so determined but eventually I won :))
@@mrmt9851 If you wanna be a parry god, the whole video is the intro (to the nine million hours of practice you need to look good and parry every attack lmao)
I concur. I've just learned and mastered it after 200 hrs of playing. But I'm still on my NG0 because I'm a completionist and taking my time to enjoy all things in the game.
Probably the best elden ring video I’ve seen. What an enjoyable 40 minutes. From the editing, the music, the humour, the pure skill to the really good explanations, great reflections and perfect ending. Merry christmas my friend, see you next year indeed!
The build I've been waiting for. Your parry and dodge videos changed my game play so much. Thank for taking the time to put them out. Have a merry Christmas.
I'm really impressed with how far your videos have come since your early parry videos. This is a fantastic way to end the first year! Keep up the good work.
I’m very new to From Software games. I picked up Elden Ring a little late and had no idea what to expect. I tried to play it blind and ended up getting stuck at Godfrey on my first playthrough. I was vastly underleveled from skipping so much content I had no idea existed. Eventually, I hunkered down, started a second playthrough and followed FightinCowboy all the way to the end of the game, beating it with a Vanguard-Bloodhound’s Fang build. Although satisfying, I wanted to test my skills so I bought sekiro and got absolutely demolished - at first - and in time learned the timing and importance of parrying enemies. This galvanized me, inspiring another ER playthrough. I happened upon your content and am now parrying my way through the game. Admittedly, it’s not easy. I’m currently trying to defeat Morgott and at this time I’m stuck on phase two. I wouldn’t be inspired to do this if it weren’t for your videos. So I thank you, and I intend to become a parry god like you. Cheers, tarnished.
I was today years old when i realized that the Serpent Hunter has the extended blade effect on all of its attacks against Rykard. I always just assumed that was only on the weapon art, so both times i've fought him, i've beaten him exclusively using the weapon art.
Merry Xmas, everybody! If you enjoy the video, give it a like and drop a comment to help it out over the holidays. Thank you all so much for all the support this year!
Thanks to this video and this video alone, I got interested in the parry playstyle a few months ago and got pretty consistent with it. Fast forward to today and I just beat the final boss of the DLC purely with a parry strat. Took me nearly 10 hours but I think this was the most rewarding way for me. Thank you Mr Fishy
Love your channel bro i honestly think you deserve WAY more subs for how detailed your guides and tutorials are. Looking forward to all the new videos keep up the amazing work!
I wish I could upvote this video again. I too struggled with my first playthrough, and if I had an excellent guide like this one back then, I'd have struggled a lot less. Thank you Thingfishy for all of your amazing Elden Ring guides 🙂
Beast repellant torch is one of those items I forget exists until someone mentions it in the comments. Then I go back to forgetting it exists 😂. Good shout!
Such a good video. As an old and slow gamer, trying to do the parry build has been very frustrating. This video encouraged me and I therefore spent a good 11 hours wanting to smash my monitor into a thousand pieces. Ahh... the joys of Elden Ring. Well, I eventually just gave up on it as the fast twitch muscles and reflexes are just not there any more. However, it occurs to me that there are moments in your boss fights where you slow down the video speed just as you do the parry. When I can look closely at the animation it helps quite a bit to anticipate the parryable attacks and nail the timing of both parry and rolls. Therefore I humbly request that in future instructional videos you include more of that type of footage. It is super helpful. Even better would be to have a verbal description of what you are looking for, to signal the correct timing for a parry along with the slo-mo footage. Thanks a ton for making these excellent videos. I agree with many of the other commenters that your production quality is superb, which makes watching them like watching an interesting fantasy movie. The music and humurous commentary keep the entire thing very enjoyable. Respect!
Whoever edited this intro is exceptionally, masterfully skilled and could easily be doing this sort of thing for any AAA studio out there, no question. That was equally, or more compelling, than a lot of the actual AAA marketing material I've seen, including some of From's own work, I think. I can't praise this highly enough. The whole point of marketing material is to hook people and make them want to engage with the product, and even though I have 800 hours in Elden Ring (no PVP included; that time is 100% spent engaging with the actual world of Elden Ring,) with the Platinum Trophy firmly secured, and I've defeated every single enemy in The Lands Between with an on-screen health bar at least twice, that intro gave me chills and instilled in me a desire to restart from scratch like nothing else has ever done, including the Shadow of the Erdtree marketing. I'm seriously impressed.
Two Tips: The Rotten Erdtree Avatar in Caelid can be easily cheesed from the cliff above with ranged attacks. Frenzied Burst works great for example. Edgar in the Leyndell Catacombs is dramatically easier with the Beast Repellent Torch equipped on your back while two handing your weapon. The rotten dogs will completely leave you alone and you can just focus on him. This is true of most animal based enemies in the game, they run away or ignore you with that torch equipped.
Thanks, Terk! I'll never forget you keeping me sane while learning the Maliketh fight for 3 hours on Twitch. Thanks for all the support along the way, mate. Merry Christmas to you and your family!
massive respect to your video style. The itro, the chilled way you describe stuff. Love it bro. Got my next challenge run set up thanks to this vid giving inspiration :)
It's a funny coincidence that you posted a parry/dagger build right now. I recently started a Co-op playthrough with some friends and I started as the Bandit class, using daggers and a bow. Your parry guide videos have been a lot of help for it, even though with co-op it can be tricky squeezing parries in. But whenever I do, I love hearing the "ooo's" and "ahhh's" from my friends. So thanks for that. c: Great video! Merry Christmas ThingFishy! Thanks for all the great and entertaining guides this year!
This guide, and your parry guides, are amazing videos. I remember the first time I needed your help parrying a boss (it was the grafted scion) and it felt sl good when I finally got it figured out. For that feeling of joy, I can't thank you enough. Some bosses to this day, I havent learned how to parry simply because it takes too long to learn and I haven't got the time. (I also seem to get terrible RNG and as soon as I parry a boss they switch exclusively to their non-parryable attacks) I attempted to parry Malenia once, and it took me about an hour to get one riposte. I simply dont have that kind of time available to learn how to parry every boss in the game. But good on ya though!
Been here since the shield analysis vid. Still not bored. NGL watching your editing evolve has been just about as fun to watch as the content itself. Keep it up!
So satisfying when you hit the parry and you hear that sound AND the red sparkles splashing around the screen. It's not the easiest way to beat the enemies but it's definitively the most satisfying for me
You sir, have raised the bar on gaming guids to a level of artistic merit rarely seen on this medium. Dare I say, inspirational. You have a gift my friend. Bravo
And with this I officially created the... probably 5th character in my playthroughs🤣, but you make guides so easy to understand and accessible that now I really feel motivated to learn parry and try a new game style, thanks so much❤

My strategy at first was to back up and then parry an easier follow up attack, but now ive mastered the fight and can parry Morgott back to back, even the attack highlighted there at your minute mark, with a small shield even. RL1 and no damage taken.
A very nice guide and cheers for beating Malenia by parrying.👍 I really love that fight. I've probably parry-won her 200 times now. Once it starts feeling natural, there's just something very meditative about the experience. For quite a while I did it daily after work to relax =)
I am about 75% through my first playthrough adn have been really enjoying your content (whever I end up dying too much to a boss!). Such helpful guides and I enjoy the music and editing
Recently learned that killing Esgar, Priest of Blood is made easy by equipping the beast flame torch! Seeing as this is a video from a year ago, this may not be new information for you at this point, but the beast flame torch actually repels swarm of flies and I believe for this boss fight it also causes the dogs to just... not spawn if you enter the battle with it already equipped.
Buy the beast repellent torch from the isolated merchant north in dragon barrow caelid. The torch will make Esgar a more easy fight since the two dog will back off unless attacked. Definitely need to try a parry at some point, awesome video as always.
This was such an incredible video. My God. I don't even have the energy to express the level of in game finesse as well as the editing. ~Praise the SUNNNNNNNN
Love your videos. I don’t even plan on doing a parry build, but it’s just super fun to watch 🙌🏻 Plus it’s really nice to see the ball bearing hunter get slapped around!
Very well made guide and it's quite relaxing to listen to you. I'm not a huge fan of those people who are like 'YO GUYS THANKS TO MY BUILD YOU ARE NOW OP, IT'S BEYOND BROKEN!!'. There are a few people that I have in mind, but I won't name them here. They do create good builds, but holy shit, their commentary drives me absolutely insane. So yea, I appreciate this one. :D
I started a Reduvia / Great Knife Dual dagger build using your fast start just yesterday. I've only gotten through Margit, Godrick, Renalla, and Loretta so far but it's been quite fun and fairly effective.
Merry Christmas Everyone! Just want to start by saying great video! I have a tip for everyone for a super easy early rune farm that can get you to any level you want. If you kill Greyoll on your horse and immediately when her tail moves during the death animation you sprint back to the Grace and rest, you’ll actually respawn Greyoll and still get the runes from the kill. This way you can get her rune count forever but you WILL NOT get the dragon hearts so you will need her to permanently die to get those. This still works on 1.08 Give it a try!
