On this channel we like to do a lot of dogfighting most videos are some sort of dogfight between 2 different aircraft as we explore their different capabilities. From time to time I like to dabble in Virtual Reality, I think VR is a great new technology and I love to show that stuff off for the channel from time to time.
If you prefer more up close and personal dogfights consider the IL-2 Sturmovik: Great Battle series and experience intense WWII aerial combat over famous battlefields such as Stalingrad, Moscow, Rhineland and Normandy. Fight in and against Russian, American, German, British warbirds such as the P-51 Mustang, P-47 Thunderbolt, Bf-109, FW-190, Spitfire, Hurricane and rugged IL-2 Sturmovik attack plane. You can also fly legendary SPADS, Fokkers and Camels in WWI dogfights over the trenches of WWI and discover your inner Red Baron! And all of this can be experienced in jaw dropping virtual reality!
If you enjoy war thunder or Microsoft flight simulator 2020 or even dogfighting in Battlefield 2042, consider getting yourself into Digital Combat Simulator by Eagle Dynamics, the Combat side of Aviation with the BVR and Dogfights really provides a different and interesting perspective on aviation. You can fly all kinds of combat aircraft including the F-16, F-15, F-14, JF-17, Su-27, Mig-29, Mirage and the F-18 Hornet along with many other aircraft and helicopters like the Ka-50 and Mi-8.

Thank you guys for watching, I hope you enjoyed the World War I action, and some lucky Air to Air Pistol Kills, see you in the next one.
This is something new GS, and as always, keep up the great work
This is excellent, Thank You
Yeah, more of the WWI Please
Dude I have a video Idea, F-16 VS. Su-27
J20 vs f22 BVR
I don't think that was a German military issue sidearm. That was the "most powerful handgun known to man" chambered in A-10 30mm depleted uranium!
Holy crap, you made the sidearm a primary weapon.
Off-bore sight, not a problem, hold my beer!
In 1991, yeah 30 years ago, I was flying multi-player WWI air battles via a dial-up modem!! And that software companies tech support guy, who amazed me so much, led to my inspiration to have a career as systems engineer. Who would've guessed it? Still do it today.
BUT LOVIN' THE WWI VR!!
Keep up the great work......fun!
Fun fact: In old style rotary engines, the entire engine physically rotated with the prop, that gyroscope effect is why aircraft like the Dr.1 and the Camel were faster in a right hand turn. In a left turn the torque wants to pull the nose up, in a right turn it pulls the nose down.
Real engineering fanboi spotted 🧐
When I first discovered it I was like "tf?" But then I realized that it made sense
Am old enuf that basic flight at VT-3 was in T-28 Trojans. Just as stated above. You initiated a spin to the right, but left was a slow roll nose high. These were 9 cyl 1860 cu/in over 1500 hp
It’s also the cause of plenty of training accidents. You need a lot of opposite rudder, especially on takeoff, to counter the torque and gyroscopic effects of such a large mass rotating like that.
Does IL-2 simulate the WW1 radial engine operating at full power only, with blip switch to manage power?
I'm here for the WW1 dogfights. I watch most of your other genres, but when I see a WW1 I'm in instantly!
I can second that, only with an emphasis on WWII-stuff. There's just something about props.
@@acebone2 love the prop driven planes!
This prop VR stuff got me back into the channel. Love it.
Downing planes with a Luger is just insane. Whoever thought of putting that mechanic in game was a genius.
well its not so much they "thought it up"... they did that in real life in WW1. planes were originally unarmed spotter planes, then the pilots and aircrew started taking small arms with them to fire at the enemy scout planes. The developers earlier title, Rise Of Flight had small arms in the cockpit implemented too. Its just about being as most a realistic sim as they can make.
@@roadsweeper1 what I don't get is why they brought pistols and machine guns. When you're shooting at something reminiscent of a sailing ship's rigging, a shotgun is the obvious choice.
@@tykjpelk
I think shotguns were used too
@@tykjpelk because only America used Shotgnns extensively
For World War 1 battles in VR you could setup a fan to blow on your face for the extra sensation.
Yes I already have this lol I use the fan to keep myself and the Pc cool but it also provides a cool Vr experience
Fan linked to a little motor. Turns left or right as the aircraft does to simulate proper wind effects. For da immersion.
For winter scenarios, push the air through dry ice first.
if you are killed, ask wife to shoot you
@@PaulMcElligottlmao
7:56 "one of the worst ways you could kill anybody" i mean honestly seeing the types of gas they used and other stuff in WW1, id pay to die by crashing into the ground for a quick death rather than throwing up lungs
best part of this video is you saying "BAM!" each Luger shot...as I am doing it also
4:13 reminds me of the old video “Get wrist control then Bam! pull out your gun” love how GS says Bam! Every time he shoots the pistol. Lol
Dude when I saw you pull that pistol up the first time I busted out laughing. Thank you for that cuz I was in a pissed off mood and it disappeared immediately.
Ah yes, the Red Baron. Famed pistol duellist.
Von Richthofen commented that while he loved the maneuverability and rate of climb of the triplane, he hated to think what would happen when the enemy found out how slow it was.
where it all began. first they waved to each other. then an observer brought a rifle and started shooting. mounting machine guns brought sawed off props. 1916 the Eindekker Scourge. A fragile slow aircraft, but it could shoot through the propeller arc. It dominated until the Allies got their hands on one and discovered the Germans had designed an interrupter that kept the machine gun from firing when the prop was in front. Then everyone started killing one another in various successful and unsuccessful designs. By the way, first parachutes were used by the observers in balloons.
My great-grandfather was a French fighter pilot in early WWI before forward-firing machine guns. This is what they did, shot at each other with rifles and pistols and tried to either kill the crew or damage the engine or radiator. There was a French book written about it called “Au Temps Des Carabines” (“In the Time of the Rifles”).
Oh man...would LOVE an entire series on the WWI fighter combat missions...
In VR you are lethal as heck...I wonder what you hit/miss ratio is
Keep em coming!!!!
Shouting "break yoself" at another pilot would be pretty amusing.
Watch yo prop!
It’s brace yoself fool
If you Google "Achim Engels Fokker Schorndorf" it's the guy who builds the finest German WW1 aircraft today including several in Peter Jackson's collection. He actually owns Tony Fokker's original Type certificates and legally builds continuation planes with Fokker tooling. He is part way through building a reproduction Fokker Werke factory to add to his small museum. One of those very hardcore original purists, he uses and builds only reproduction 1900-era hand tools - no power anything. He will spend a month just building a wing spar box with a hand plane and files - no sandpaper even. He only uses gas stick welding with period welders.
Hey growling! You say WW1 Planes are the most immersive in VR. You also said that you tried racing in VR. But have you tried racing in old (50-60's) style race cars? The way your body is much more exposed makes it so much more fun.
I need “Ya hate to see it” and “It’s a R A T E fight” shirts in my life.
Thanks pal! You’re a good pilot but no one beats the OG!
I feel like GS actually gets a pipper when he pulls out the luger, it's the only explanation.
These videos encouraged me to buy the WW1 addon. It is superb in VR. Thanks man.
As someone who was practically raised on WW1 Flight Sims and history: The reason why the Dr.1 has those turn characteristics is because of the spin of the radial engines! I'm not sure how it is modelled in this game but I've made it a tactic to cut the engine when I roll left so the torque doesn't kill the roll/turn rate. Especially good if you're against a live player who thinks "Oh I have you now/Oh I'm going to get away from you now!" only to get the nasty shock.
Glad I got here fairly early- Love your videos; you're an amazing sim pilot man.
There was an air to air kill in Vietnam from a huey to a NV recon biplane. A CIA agent literally leaned out the side of the chopper and blatted the pilot with an AK. I fervently hope he got a little biplane stenciled onto the side of his rifle stock.
6:35 GET SOME!!
WW1 videos are absolutely the best especially because of VR.
The night time WW1 dogfighting is really awesome yea you can keep doing that for as long as ya want ill watch every one
Just awesome to watch, the tracer fire at night is insane! 😲 I just love the WW1 flight sims, so much more enjoyable, it really does tax your flying skills, and you make it look incredible 👏
Not that I've flown many jets, but I prefer this kind of skilled close combat action, over having missile lock on a blip 30 miles out... Thanks for posting this very entertaining flight. =D
I'm excited as hell for Flying Circus volume 2, the new aircraft are cool but the added missions are what excite me the most.
Glad to see you uploading more VR content!
What’s interesting is that you’re shooting your pistol through your propeller without damaging or hitting it. Lol.
2 Morons idea: GS vs. Longshot in WW1 Biplanes, Pistols ONLY.
Love the VR videos from both world wars. Thanks for the great content!
A pistol? Talk about disrespect.
Nothing like a good old fashioned drive by shooting to get the blood going 🤣
Alright here we go here we go check this out!...
Me : waiting to see what maneuver he ganna pull👀
... Pulls out gun: BAM...
😂😂😂
That was great! You’re a German John Wayne
Lends credence to the guy that shot the pilot from a parachute. I think you could do it if you were practiced with the .45, I believe him.
Bro, I love the WWI content. It's so different from the rest of the stuff you do.
Picked up il2 with flying circus after being away from the series for a long time and picking up a VR set because of these vids. Love the content mate
VR absolutely changes the way you experience flight.
I had gotten away from for the last 5-6 years and it is just so much better than TrackIR
@@Silverhks i've been thinking about TrackIR for flight and racing for a few years, but never bit the bullet on it. VR has had my eye for a while but now there are more actual games supporting it ive been considering it, and this has made me make the choice
@@Silverhks the problem is if you have external buttons and switches on your desk you cant see them in vr
Few things are more satisfying in these videos than GS giggling over something completely and incredibly ridiculous he's doing.
Rotary engines had a massive effect in aircraft . Sopwith tripe pilots said they could turn 270 one way faster than 90 the other
Hey GS Great video! I'm at work and took a quick break and hit this one up and when I saw your hand pop up I was like, "Did you just give that first guy the bird???!!!" I was laughing so hard I had just had to back it up, and then I saw the shooting and it made my night! Fantastic fighting for sure. I remember the original IL game, and I still have it. Can't wait to get this title too. I just have to get my internet hooked back up. Hopefully next week. I see you are using the Oculus Rift S. I have the Oculus Quest. Do you think that can be used for VR for this game? Thanks for such an amazing vid, and I'll leave ya to it. ✌
GS love the WW1 content. Its way more entertaining!
I little while ago you did a spitfire vs bf-109 dogfight, could you do another now you're well versed in IL2 but this time with the MK XIVe griffon? Might be interesting to see if it can climb with the 109 without destroying itself.
Another great vid by the way.
I'd love to see you fly the S.E.5.A . Historically , a fast plane with good climb and high ceiling. I reckon it might be your cup of tea.
Definitely my favourite too.
You have sold me on IL-2 Virtual Reality…Im a sucker for ww2 dogfighting, but WW1 has fascinated me, since I was a small kid, (& jets are way too impersonal)…
The Luger's effective range is only about 100 meters, so a round will begin to drop pretty quickly. Good shooting.
The night fights were dope, more of those for sure
Loving these WW1 dogfights!
Thanks GS, that was sweet. Nutty Luger shots man
I love the inspiration taken from Wolfenstein 3D in adding the pistol!
What i like about ww1 planes in these sims. is that everything is in slow motion till you get into a dogfight
Big thumbs up to that one! But you already know I love those WW1 videos and I loved the night too..
Nice film, with a slight psycho touch with the Luger pistol.
GS flying with that gangsta lean. Clack clack clack lol
The magical synchronized Luger!
I wonder what do you use to aim the machine guns. The "X" made by the wires which is in the middle of both guns, perhaps?
This is awesome! "The German clunt Eastwood! " 😆🤣
Thanks GS that was great. Love the night fight :)
Pretty awesome! When I get home I will have to invest in a new video card and a headset. Suffering from really bad sim withdrawal symptoms at the moment, it's been nearly a year!
This was badass, especially the pistol snapshots. Would you consider doing a Fokker D.VII video?
would you place a high-speed fan billowing in front of you when flying Great War planes to make it a more immersive experience? ;)
Definitely more IL-2 World War 1 content please GS.
@Growling Sidewinder - great vid! Curious side-note: What's your poison in racing sims? :)
I tried dirt rally didn’t really get into it but I enjoyed it a lot, mostly a time constraint
Luger: exists
Growling Sidewinder: *wheeze*
Man your control is impressive keeping those xhairs on the planes with ease! Curious what your rudder curves are like and your pitch for the dr1 my rudder bounces around like nuts. I’ve tried different curves but can’t get it right without that bounce
Another outstanding video and presentation.
When can we get a way to do co-op ww1 fighters in vr like they did before someone mounted a machine gun to a plane
FPS/Flight Sim!!! My mind is blown beyond recognition! 😳
The triplane is just so iconic 🤌🏻
WWI dogfights in vr: from my experience it is good to keep a barf bag close by xD
I would love to see you vs long shot is a duel using the pistols.
"And for my next trick, I'll shoot the pilot of an F-22 with my Sig Sauer after Jester ejects." - GS, probably
Open your flights in tacview, you should be able to see if you connect with the pistol
Karamojo Bell was a Scottish explorer and elephant hunter! He was known to shoot his enemies with his hunting rifle while flying in WWI🛩
VR is great. Not sure my wife is up to sharing the living room with an extra from the next Star Wars video, though.
WW1 dogfights are my favorite content!!!
Dogfighting with a pistol... the struggle is real.
0:35 Nobody expects The Spanish Inquisition!!! :))
Dunno about pistol shots thru the propeller.
Onboard guns are synched to the engine, but a Luger?
little bit of luck never hurt no one.
From AMRAAM to Luger, the reverse cycle is complete.
That side arm thought lol!
So what we learned this time...
MG bullets = x1 damage
Luger bullets = x1000 damage
😂😂😂
More accurate description:
MG bullets = 1x damage
Luger bullets = 1x damage
missing = 0 damage
hitting the plane = 10x damage
hitting the pilot = 1000x damage
@@gascan that's not what I see in the video....
😂😂😂😂😂😂 this made me even laugh more than the 2 morons series!
this was awwesome. more please
Machine guns throwing out hundreds of rounds = He might go down. Semi auto pistol single shot = Down in flames! 😂
I watch your video's all the time and yet I still end up in a turn fight. lol
The sunset and night ones were so damn cool
If youre sittingin the air-conditioning with the fan on you and leave an open petrol can sitting in the corner of the room. Be pretty immersive.
this is awesome. made me buy a vr headset
Lmao Im glad this isn't real life because aiming like that especially with a pistol you're gonna be yards off 🤣 not even aiming down the sights and pointing up slightly lol but you pull off some great shots so wouldn't surprise me lol keep em coming
fighting in the dark really is something
What utterly Wonderful foolishness! Keep it coming🤣🤣🤣
I may be late to the party, but, what hotas and rudders do you use, I'm looking to get more into flights sims
Ask myself how you didn't hit your prop with that Luger shooting often through the prop :D
Great video!
Very cool. Keep it up.
And, that is an off bore Luger for ya!
