Have you noticed any benefits from the collagen.
I could be wrong but I thought peptides and collagen are destroyed by anything acidic. That’s why it’s not that viable to take it orally.

Its actually fine. The collagen is unflavoured with no taste. ACV will just make the tea a bit stronger on the throat. But i guess its not a good thing to have ACV as a tea cause it can erode tooth enamel

Outstanding video, Thomas‼️An orthopedist prescribed me collagen 10 years ago, but a good few nutritionists put me off eating it claiming you can't produce collagen out of collagen. Wish I'd listened to the doctor now that I have stage 4 knee collagen loss. I've learnt that type 1 collagen may prevent synovitis and type 2 collagen, which is the one found in human cartilage, triggers an immune system response that stimulates our chondrocytes to produce more collagen. So, the nutritionists were right about its absorption but dead wrong about the results.

Its been in my cupboard forever so i thought I'd try it and it tastes pretty good and mixed instantly in the hot liquid. I thought it would have been nasty. Been missing out for a long time. This makes sense but not applicable for faster. If you fast it's not possible to take collagen before bedtime as it's high in protein, 19 g per serving and 70 calories. I noticed when taking collagen peptides at late dinner (8pm) it makes me sleepy around 10 and knock me off to 💤💤💤at 11 deeply till the morning. I do bone broth daily before trying the collagen powder peptides powder . Most of what I have read about fasting are strong suggesting to not eat at evening / chronobiology)
So taking collage before going to bed, will break down the fasting, and for that the autophagic process, right? And also disturb the sleep ?

Most stuff I've read is that collagen is basically just cheap protein, your body has no way of distinguishing collagen from any other source of protein and treats it the same, so you're not really replenishing collagen stores or joint health, you're just supplementing with a protein powder, but one that doesn't have as complete an amino acid profile as more common protein sources. In fact the study referenced in this video concluded "These data suggest that using leucine-rich whey protein can activate mTORC1 within sinews and increase collagen synthesis. ...other than leucine-rich protein, no nutritional interventions have been shown to have an effect on sinew in humans." The bit about taking gelatin prior to a workout to increase collagen was based on in vitro models and is a bit speculative. I'd like to see studies that compare collagen production post-workout with collagen supplementation vs whey.

Glad I'm not the only one here questioning this. Thomas conveniently left any mention of this out. This video is just a sales pitch. This is def far from the unbiased complete info he used to provide. I'm 100% sure Thomas is aware of this collagen breakdown and whether this effect is true or not he left it out completely. I really just wanted him to address what the OP mentioned here and I have to assume Thomas heard about it but left it out. And if what OP mentions is not the case then debunking it only helps sell more products. So leaving it out must have been because its true.
I'm starting to get put off from his videos. There's better sources of information out there that are not so biased. That don't promote a product, like he's doing videos the other way round now.

Its not that I don't still watch Thomas's videos either but it just feels different nowadays. He might refer to studies but I think its hard to pump out videos every day and still be able to cover all your bases.
Basically those guys and Thomas's channel is all I need for info on everything. But I find myself less drawn to this channel as times goes on.
The other channel from Huberman does promote athletic greens and inside tracker but thats the ONLY thing he promotes in every video. And he's not building videos around a product like Thomas is doing literally all the time now. And the excuse for doing this is that he can't keep his content free unless we all buy Bubs collagen supplements lol.
Edit* Actually thinking about it thomas mostly does promote 1 thing as well which is thrive market. And whichever subject he wants to make a video on there's probably a long line of brands that want him to promote their stuff.

My naturopath is all about nutrition through food - she doesn't push supplements at all. The one exception she makes is encouraging long-term use of collagen supplements during the aging process. The key is likely finding a trusted brand with a quality product. I suspect the exception is due to the impact on gut health. When the gut is healed, the body can better absorb the nutrients in food.

Would it be alright to split up my servings? Like a scoop before workout, scoop before bed? Or something similar to this where you take part of the serving size at different times throughout the day? Or does it all need to be taken at once for full effect? Thanks Thomas

I would actually think that it would be much better to consume it throughout the day, so it’s more of a constant flow of nutrients 🤔 Interested in hearing other opinions tho

    • @EricV-lq3jq

just about all nutrients are better taken throughout the day, simply due to less strain on kidneys, liver. Less toxicity effects from overdosing, less digestive issues, and if you take something that blocks a specific nutrients absorption, than its not all wasted as you'll get other portion later.

Thomas, I kept waiting for a few bits of important information. But it didn't come. 1 question to me is which forms of collagen do we take? Question 2, it's said that collagen supplements are useless and fall apart in the stomach acid and break down into other amino acids. To me that seems a bit weird because if that destroyed it to a degree that makes it useless then whats the point of meat and broth etc. Or is food based a diff breakdown and form of collagen? This story also goes for probiotics but if that was true we'd all be sterile and none of the bacteria from food would survive either.
Without providing some more info about types of collagen forms etc this video to me comes across as just an advertisement wrapped up in some mention of benefits. Basically all I know now is I should buy bubs. And sure ads pays the bills I get that but if it gets in the way of providing all the information then you are no longer unbiased and I feel you could have def provided more info here.
I noticed this trend for a while in your videos and it's a shame. That's just my opinion and experience so don't bite my head off ;)
But yeah I really want to know the deal with collagen breakdown is it nonsense or is supplementing with it worth it.

    • @davidduarte2887
      @davidduarte2887 Рік тому +1

I was waiting for the same thing. It’s type 2 collagen that is effective for joint health and types 1 and 4 for skin, nails, and hair but he mentioned none of that. The collagen peptide supplements themselves often don’t mention which types are in them.

One thing I'm wondering about is if the amino acid profile of pork rinds counts towards this...? Seems fairly similar to bone broth from what I can find on google. I cook my dinner in about 1.5 cups of bone broth, that plus snacking on a few servings of baked pork rinds during the day, gets me up to about 40g of protein from this kind of stuff.
I guess one difference is that pork rinds never become gelatin, not sure how important that is though. All I can find on that topic is that gelatin takes a bit longer to digest, and therefore is a bit better for your GI lining. But it's hard to know the truth of things you found randomly on google.

The really odd thing is that there's 0 studies on this so I still am unsure of the MOA and can only surmise.
