- Canadian progressive master songwriter Devin Townsend is set to releases his new album Lightwork on November 4 2022 via Inside Out Music/Sony Music Australia.
Written during times of significant personal change and assembled from material written during the pandemic, Devin Townsend’s upcoming new solo full length Lightwork returns to a song-oriented album format, with more traditional arrangements than previous releases Empath, The Puzzle and Snuggles on offer throughout the 10 new tracks.
With Devin bringing a producer on for the first time in the form of long-time friend GGGarth Richardson to bring Lightwork to life, Devin achieves new ground while firmly flexing colossal soundscapes, engrossing melodics and abstract sound design.
The Everblack Podcast spoke to Devin Townsend about his new album Lightwork, the concept behind the record and the significance of the lighthouse, Empath’e connection to Lightwork and The Puzzle, the chaotic personal effect of Strapping Young Lad on his life, possible Australian tour and more!
Devin Townsend - Lightwork is out November 4 via Inside Out Music/Sony Music Australia.

Hey dude, this was a great interview. Devin is always so gracious, but you seem to be able to go deeper than most. Thank you 🤘
It’s amazing how much Dev has changed. I love SYL era Dev, but he seems super happy now and that’s awesome.
I'd absolutely love a new SYL album more than anything, but I 100% understand how that could never happen. It makes me sad, but it is what it is.
@@DustyDigits Doesn't mean he can't make a new band called Strapping Middle-aged Lad
@@someguy2972 I'd listen to them!
Excellent interview - Discovered Dev at the time when I was at the end of my rope, saved my life at 50 years old. It's been 8 glorious years and I listen to some form of his music, podcasts or interviews on a daily basis. Where he's at right now is right where I am as well. Living with severe, chronic pain is a new fight every day - but I use his art like medication for my soul. I know he's helped countless others and given us something to hold onto when the waters of life get choppy. Thanks EV!!
So good to hear his music had that positive effect on you and it continues to help you, that was SYL for me a lot of times.
So bananas that the young Devy untamed, and Dev's modern music are equally beneficial to the right listener at the right time. You made this a lot like sitting down with the 2 of you and less like an interview. In the very best of ways Cheers!!
I love "Info Dump"
I really loved this. Because I've been listening to SYL a lot today and its like I knew there was going to be an interview without even knowing it. Its just wild. I ran right into it and I love it. Thank you Devin...for talking about all this old and new stuff going on. You've done so much. Thank you lots.

Cool.
Saw S.Y.L in 03' at the Metro, was fuckin' sick! I'd imagine the Wagga Wagga gig would of gone off since the country people don't get too many international acts. Someone find footage of that gig stat!
Speaking of Dragon's and Reptiles etc, Billy Corgan thinks he saw a Lizard person *Cue X files music*
