Ifgaf - The New Black was SYLs strongest album, Devy's vocals were stunning, Gene's drumming was top teir - solid f*cking album
I envy you listening to this album fresh and new
Oderus was on the Deconstruction album as well, in case you've missed that
It's also hard for me to listen to Linkin Park
I should also add "Fucker" was the last time I heard Bif Naked before she faded from the limelight cause of her fight with cancer
I'm still here commenting at the end ... Cooked on Phonics is another Devy classic, a narrative about a metal band who sell out to punk
@@magusmelanie828 thanks for the heads up, yes, after I did this I realized there is a lot I have missed. Alien was my last album when I was younger and I didn't start listening to his Project stuff until about 4 years ago when I started reactions with my wife. There is still a LOT I'm realizing I haven't heard. He's so prolific lol.
@WolfKain literally almost an album per year since the late 90s 🤣
For a moment I saw you hover over the Far Beyond Metal live version from For those aboot to rock. It doesn't feature Oderus, but it does feature Drew. Who is Drew you ask? He's a legend 😂 You'll have a good time listening to it, if you wish :)
Just popping into the comments to say this is a hella wholesome video.
Ladies and Gentleman - Devin Fucking Townsend Your buddy sent you a great surprise gift Cheers!!
As mentioned, this was originally a live song on where for some reason devin sang a verse from maggots. Then strapping and gwar played together at the sounds of the underground tour. and then Devin produced the beyond hell album. And did guest vocals on tormentor. and then they recorded this song for the new black album and had Dave guest vocals his own maggot's first. Really cool to see it come full circle. Devin had a nice heartfelt story after dave passed, Dave was at Devin's house to record this. And while Devin's wife was cleaning the room Dave was staying in she found a Teddy bear in Daves bed
Seeing your reverence and sentimentality for Oderus performing with Devin was really heartwarming. That touched me.
Thought I would post this here if you haven’t heard yet, Devin and Dreamtheater are doing a huge US tour!!
More Strapping Pleeeesse!!!
Thanks Wolf!
No, thank you for reminding me I was missing out on this 🤗✊🤘
Far beyond metal was originally on a live ep called "No sleep till bedtime" released in the mid late nineties. It was recorded live on the tour for the "city" album. That album also contains 2 studio tracks "centipede" and "Japan". In between City and the self titled album he had put out his first couple solo albums. Not sure if those 2 songs were meant to be SYL or Devin songs. Both bands had mostly the same members.
Fuck I love how good Oderus sounds on that track. Lol Love the footage of when Devin enters Gwar's studio to produce for Beyond Hell
Devy produced Gwar's album 'Beyond Hell'.
From what I recall, that wasn't an album I enjoyed. Now that I am aware of this though, I'll need to give it another listen just to be sure ✊🤘
This is such a sad song knowing that would break up soon after.
Carry my only band tattoo with pride, SYL.
I was surprised that I didn’t know Devin continued with music after Strapping! I was a huge Strapping fan and got to see them once in Tampa at a great venue called the Masquerade which I don’t think is around anymore…my friends Goatwhore opened for them as well as Bleeding Through and I’m kicking myself because I was backstage the whole time and could only hear and not see the show…what a dumbass 😂 oh well! I know he just finished the European tour so I hope he does a US one! But yeah…I was like, how the hell did I miss all of this DTP and just Devin stuff!? Also, The New Black is such an amazing album, hope you’ve enjoyed discovering it! I blast and jam the hell out specifically to Almost Again and Far Beyond Metal all the time!
Honestly I did that too. The reality is Alien was the last album I had when I was younger. I didn't discover the Project stuff till much later when I started reactions with my wife 4 years ago. Now there is so much content I still haven't gone through it all 🤦🏼♂️
@@WolfKain well there’s plenty to discover for sure! Can never have too much Devin! 🙌🏻 I love the videos with you and your wife btw…you guys are great to watch and I can feel the love between you two!
Amazing. I saw Goatwhore supporting Job for a Cowboy in Sydney (aus) and they invited me and my mates backstage for beers after their set. Awesome humans.
@@Angatyr34 yeah, they’re great guys!
@@WolfKain well in that case, if you didnt listen to Ziltoid The Omniscient yet, do it. Its a whole album about an alien searching for the best cup of coffee but unfortunately he didnt get it and now wants to destroy earth
I totally get you regarding Dave and Chester. I haven't been able to bring myself to listen to Stone Temple Pilots after both Scott and Chester passed. Same with Alice in Chains. "Black Gives Way to Blue" was an absolutely beautiful send-off and goodbye to Layne Staley. I just can't do anything beyond that.
oh I wasn't half-aware that Mr. Wolf had his own channel! lol let's rock!!!
Havin a good time listening to good music. Nothing better to do friend. New sub.
I´m still waiting for moore!
The sound that levels cities..
Devy produces such a metric ton of music, it's understandable to have missed something.
Im so glad I got to see Gwar in liverpool in 2007, chances to see them were rare and I got to see dave and cory. They were touring in support of Beyond Hell which is the album Devin produced. Ive seen the new Gwar lineup a few times now and they're great but I still miss dave.
My go to gym-gore music. When I need the extra push with cardio.
My vision blurs and starts to go dark when I push my limits with S.Y.L.
The way it should be.
Wolf, check out Ziltoid track planet smasher for more Gwar. Cheers.
Hey Wolf have you seen the Resolve video for Older Days with Ten56 and Pale Face Swiss? It's pretty awesome.
I have not but I'll check it out, thanks ✊🤘
I remember years ago talking to Don (sleezy) over email and I asked about some DBX things and he said I should contact dave directly and he gave me his email address. I was too scared to email him because of the old "never meet your heros thing" one of the biggest regrets of my life.
Devin is one of a kind. Also in SYL. 👍🎶🖖
We never got past 2016 maybe best 2019. After that the world went to shit.
So weird how you scroll through templates as you are listening. Its like you were running away from the song.
all hail dave brockie, all hail SYL
Sadly, I missed SYL when they were active. I didn't discover SYL and Devin until 2010. But what I found fantastic about SYL's albums is that every one of them sounds completely different from the others, musically and production wise. But I love the humor Dev would weave through the songs. Actually, one of my favorite songs off of this album is the bonus track. Even though its an instrumental it has the best Devin humor of all just with the name of the song - C:ENTER:###. A.k.a. see colon, enter colon, pound pound pound
🤣
I've been listening to this song for over a decade and never realized that Dave did the backup vocals. It makes sense tho. I actually was introduced to devins music at the sounds of the underground tour I Tulsa. I was there to see Gwar and was introduced to the music of strapping young lad, who was one of then opening acts. I was an instant fan. Syl split up soon after and I wasn't mature enough yet for Devins new direction. I didn't rediscover dev for nearly a decade. Gwar remains in my top five fav bands ever. I saw Dave era Gwar in concert many times over the years and was crushed at the loss of my scumdog brethren. This was a rare treat for me too. Thank you wolfcain for this gift.
