- On very very rare occasions i add life insects as food for my ants. As last years horse fly video was very successful and i had requests for wasp video, i made exception. Fortunately ants took down this vicious quite easily, though there was casualties for ants as well, about 3..5 ants got killed :( RIP.
What my friends and I are visualizing when we talk about how many 5 year olds we could take in a fight.
You could try it out, there are huge gangs of 5 year olds in the streets of Rio.

I had a wasp nest on my roof I can't go to water my plants because of those little sh*ts and one day i saw that some black ants and Godzilla ants were attacking wasp's nest and surprisingly those black ants and Godzilla ain't attacking each other,I think they formed an alliance and i was thinking that I am recording but then a Godzilla ant bited me and i started bleeding i quickly ran down and put Dettol on it and when i opened my phone I saw that i forgot to click the record button

Fun Fact: worker ants dont actually fight but they grab and bite the enemy and a bunch of them can easily rip the enemy limbs or even killing it so they are kinda like some sort of support, and those big headed guys are like meat shields because they use their big head as a shield against a invasor. i dont actually know their name so please tell me at the coments. and thats what i call Big Brain time

Is there a bug out there that would actually win against all the ants? An emperor scorpion or some other heavily-armoured killing machine might be the best option here
nah there's just way too many ants. for some ant types like army ants they'll easily defeat even crabs or even smaller mammals
@@asdfoifhvjbkaos I just think there has to be some kind of super saiyan ultra instinct crackhead insect out there capable of handling the ant situation in the video, there's got to be a type of bug out there with good armour and a huge AoE ability
@@kvatch yeah that would be cool but I don't think it exists sadly. Most natural ant predators (spiders, antlions) are only good at taking out stragglers and can't take on the whole colony.
Seems the main species that serve as _actual_ threats to the queen are enemy ants colonies, infections, parasites, and wild cards like birds.
You might be interested in the Paussinae, which are beetles that use pheromones to trick the ants into thinking they are part of the colony. They live in the ant nests and feast off the ant eggs and larvae
maybe a small group of some young praying mantisses might be enough to slowly hunt down the ant colony cuz praying mantisses can just take 1 ant run away eat it come back take 1 ant... and after a long time they might reduce the ant population so much that the colony wont be able to stay alive.

had just finished a walk through a woodland area, and a wasp crash landed on my windshield. I looked closer and it turned out to be a battle between the wasp and a solitary wood ant, after a few spays of it's formic acid, the ant was victorious

I had given a spider wasp once to my pheidoles in planting pot. I injured it with two hits of electric bat and threw it in the colony. There was no fatality unlike here where a few ants got killed.
Any spiders? Feed the spider wasp to them BUT injure it first tho.

Ants are fascinating. It looks like the little ones swarmed it first, then the big soldier ants seemed to take over. Looked like some ants where holding it down aswell. Amazing cooperation.

I've seen similar ants take down an Ichneumon wasp and catch it against against an aluminum window ledge. They are extremely powerful ants in numbers, a few dead ants does not matter to them, it drives them to further subdue the antagonist. If they latch onto prey, it has no chance to escape, especially if there are sufficient colony members to hold it down whilst it is subdued and dismembered.

The reason why the hornet or wasp is wiggling is bc they are STINGING the wasp directly and the big headed ants have the strongest bites who are holding it down to the ground by the wasp or hornets legs while the workers sting it till it dies. Extremely fascinating.

Nice edit I give you that, but live feedings isn't really something you should show off. If you do it and don't film it, no one cares, but showing to new antkeepers will give them a wrong idea.
You are correct on that, and actually i feel quite bad for these type of videos. But i still have made couple using my really large and agressive colony, so that ants would not suffer. In real life i really do care a lot about all of my ants. I have dozens on informative videos coming, but it takes so much time. Formicarium builds, species overviews, colony diaries etc. But in a meanwhile i created couple of entertaining videos to keep viewers interested.
@@antsestonia5573 but what if new ant keepers see this? Then they would think they could do this themselves. This is just not right to begin with. Don’t feed your ants live prey because not only are you putting the ants in danger, you are showing everyone something that in many peoples eyes is disturbing.
I do this so others don't need to. Anyways, this video is not instructional and does not give any information about ant keeping. I've been promoting ant keeping for a long time, helping beginners almost daily, and I’ve always spoke about prekilling insects (+boiling wild insects). Before releasing this video i've gathered opinions/feedback from dozens of antkeepers, and none of them had anything against it, most of them had given ants live food before without even seeing these kinds of videos. I've grown up with nature, wild nature, probably thats the reason i love my ants and the live feeding is least of worries on this planet. And finally, when new ant keepers starts raising their ants, build massive colonies over the years, they could do this if they wanted, most of the insects cannot do any harm for ants. In massive colony many ants die daily of old age.

@@magicmidgetman Yeah, bees are not considered pests. I never give my ants or carnivorous plants any bees, other ants, jumping spiders or otherwise cool insects. Especially if i am planning to start keeping bees quite soon.
