    Another great video! I really appreciate your channel…you make awesome stuff without all the ads and other garbage. The other thing I appreciate is that you actually BUILD stuff. So many other UA-camrs don’t build anything anymore…just pitch products or the same “tips” that everyone else has done a video for too. Your channel is pure quality. Thanks!

      @@JohnBuildsIt Dowels are perfectly fine just maybe a little more work but not that much. When I was hobby woodworking years back I ended up buying so many unnecessary expensive tools that I used only a few times or not at all. I had a mortising machine I paid nearly a thousand dollars for that I ended up selling to someone on Facebook for half that price. It was still brand new in the box. Whenever I needed to mortise something I just did it by hand and it was fine. And I enjoyed the process of doing it by hand too even if it took that much longer to do.

    I'm looking at using those hinges soon. The back of the chest is flush with the outside of the legs, is that because the hinges wouldn't work with a set-back/reveal on the back? If so I'll have to see about a bevel or something to allow the top to open. Looks great, John.

    • @JohnBuildsIt
      @JohnBuildsIt  2 роки тому

      They would with a little bit, like a 1/2”, but not centered on this size of legs like the other 3 sides. So went ahead and just flushed it to the back to make the inside of the box bigger since you can’t really see it anyway

    John, I’ve seen a lot about Rubio monocoat. What makes so much better than a poly or oil finish?

    • @JohnBuildsIt
      @JohnBuildsIt  2 роки тому +2

      It’s a hard wax oil finish so it’s easier to apply and touch up/refinish if needed. I like all the colors they offer too and just personally like the satin sheen and feel versus a film finish like poly. Durable too, everything I’ve used it on still looks flawless.
