      @MelissaHuyck-js8td Hey Melissa, good morning, thanks so much...Houston, Texas here. I don't really know how to start to reply to such high praise. You are the real hero. I accidentally became a UA-cam creator in October of 2019 when I posted the queen size version of this floating bed frame. That video really took off much more so than I ever could have anticipated so I kept making videos. This king size was after I had been producing videos for quite a little while and I kind of had an idea of how I wanted to present the items I was making. I'm certain you can see the evolution of my video editing if you watch from oldest to newest. Now I'm here! I try to be quick, funny, useful, and informative in a not over produced video to get the point across quickly but effectively. No one has time these days to watch a ~15-20 minute video. We want to be able to see how to do this thing that I want to pretty quickly and be able to ask the creator questions if I need to. That's what we do here on this channel...run 100% by me. I'll be launching a website here before too long too. I can't thank you enough for your most enthusiastic support and encouragement. Thank you, thank you 🤝

    Was looking for a floating king frame for weeks. Decided to build instead. Cost me 140$, most frames were going for 700+. Built in 3 hours. Awesome video, very easy and to the point. From Canada !!

      @CurtisMadeIt  Рік тому

      @janicebroomfield763 hey Miss Janice, this is correct. If you just want to build yourself a floating bed frame, I’d recommend untreated construction grade 2x6’s for the base and the frame. You can easily modify this design to better suit your needs as desires also. I’ll be glad to help with that if you’d like. @TheHarrisonWard1 Hey Harrison, this one is pretty simple, don't make it harder than it is...2x6's for the base and the frame, 3" screws at all the wood junctions, countersink drill bits to pre-drill all the holes for your screws, corner brackets to secure the base to the frame, 1 1/4" drywall screws to secure the corner brackets to the base and the frame, and led light strips. Some of these items are linked in the written description of this video. Let me know what else you need my friend. I'm on instagram Curtis_made_it. I hope you have a safe build. @Si Brown Hello again Si, it looks like you may have left this comment twice. I'll copy my reply from your other comment and encourage you to reach out if you need any help at all. Take care.
      Hello Si, thanks for stopping by. I appreciate your questions, and compliments.
      So...I guess one of the big things that UA-cam has taught me is that I can't really build something and make a video that will satisfy every single person that comes across it. I've embraced this little factoid by making myself as available as I can to help with your floating bed frame build as needed. I'm in the USA and I built this king size floating bed frame just to show others how to build it. I don't even have a king size bed! In the video, I simply converted the King size USA bed frame measurements from inches to cm...something as a guide or reference point for others to go by. I don't know the actual sizes of all the different mattresses around the world so that makes it difficult for me to cater to everyone all at once. I hope you understand. Does this help? I'll talk to you again soon.

    Did You use the wood as bought or did you cut the edges Plane it or sand it? The lumber here is always bad warped cracks Öl of that unless you pay 15-20 for a 2x4

    • @CurtisMadeIt
      @CurtisMadeIt  11 місяців тому

      @martin8829 Hey Martin, thanks for your question, this is a good one. When I build the floating bed frames, I've learned that for the pictures that I use as the thumbnails for the videos, it's best to spend the time to sand them down and get them ready to stain/paint/seal. This makes the wood look a whole lot better. Eventually, I'll get around to showing how to properly seal and stain them, but I haven't gotten to that part on this channel yet.
      I'm sorry to hear about the cost of your lumber. If you get you a 5" orbital sander, you can start off at 80 grit, step up to 120 grit, and finally to 220 grit (*completely optional* taking the time to 'pop' the grain in between each step.). This will make your wood look pretty much exactly like what you see in the video here and will be ready to handle further if you so choose. I hope this helps...let me know if you need anything else my friend.

    • @CurtisMadeIt
      @CurtisMadeIt  2 роки тому

      @Reo White Hey Red, thanks for your question. Unfortunately, in this video, while I was editing, I forgot to include clips of what the base looks like with the bins in there. I don't have a video for a base with drawers yet. Life is super full as I spend more than 50 hours a week at my day job, among other things, but if you look at the beginning of this video from the 8 second to the 18 second mark, you can see the bins that I use on my queen size 3.0 build. These bins are linked in the written description of this video and will work for this king size build also. Sooner or later, I will get around to building a base with legit drawers though. Lots of you have asked for this. Thanks so much for your time and interest. I hope my reply here helps a little bit. I can't wait to talk to you again my friend.

      @aravindhkrishnan Hey Aravindh, I don't know exactly how far back you have to be to see the base but I will tell you this: if you paint the base black, it should blend in a whole lot better and be a whole lot less noticeable. @CurtisMadeIt  3 місяці тому +1

      @uhmanoamusicdepartment6130 Hey Honuhonuhi, I'd recommend modifying the measurements for the base and the frame if you are going for a cali-king size. That mattress has slightly different measurements than this king size and you want your base to be adequately sized, placed, and oriented so as to provide the most support for your frame/box spring/mattress/headboard(if desired). I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions my friend. Thanks for your time and support here 🤝

    • @CurtisMadeIt
      @CurtisMadeIt  7 місяців тому

      @williamblakeman5166 Hey William, I wouldn’t recommend it. I think I’ve found that the weight of the 2x6’s is part of what keeps the bed frame from tipping once everything is assembled. You may be able to get away with 2x4’s if you make the base a little wider, but I know for sure that 2x4’s on the full size *doesn’t* work. I hope this helps. Have a safe build. Hey @@CurtisMadeIt . Thanks for the reply. Only just seen this and did try it out with 2x4s. The build was pretty successful. The only issue was as you have less wood to play with I couldn't screw in all the holes on the simpson strong tie as the wood in that area was already full of screws. I chose to do the base and frame in all 2 x 6's and with the amount and sizes you suggested, i am still missing a board. I got 8 8 foot 2 x 6 , 2 10 ft 2 x 6 , 1 2 x 4, and 1 1 x 6. What am i missing here? I chose to do with headboard as well as storage! HELP!!!!!!!

    Do I need the strong ties if im not using a headboard?

    • @CurtisMadeIt
      @CurtisMadeIt  2 роки тому +1

      @Bakkstreet D4 Yeah, you still need to put them on there. That is what attaches the frame to the base. I hope this helps, let me know if you need anything else, I’ll be right there.

    • @bakkstreetd4496
      @bakkstreetd4496 2 роки тому +1

      Were those special cuts you made on the ends of the boards a requirement?

    • @CurtisMadeIt
      @CurtisMadeIt  2 роки тому +1

      @Bakkstreet D4 If you are talking about the base, then no. I was just trying to be fancy. Instead of cutting those notches in there, you can just put that 2x4 across there on top of the other boards in the base and it will work just fine.

    • @CurtisMadeIt
      @CurtisMadeIt  Рік тому

      @teh_gavin Hey G, I can't seem to find your comment so I'm replying here. Those notches are the size of the 2x4. I hope this helps. Let me know if you need anything else.

    • @CurtisMadeIt
      @CurtisMadeIt  Рік тому

      @Wyag Vibing Hey Wyag, thanks so much for stopping by. I appreciate your time and interest. More specific for the types of wood: make sure to use untreated lumber, 2x6's for the base and frame. If you want the base to be a little taller so you are able to store more stuff in there, make it out of 2x8, 2x10, or 2x12. Make sure to include a box spring to support your mattress or you can substitute plywood for a box spring. Does this help? Let me know if you have any more questions and I'll do my best to set you straight. Talk to you again soon my friend.

    Thanks, just finished making one. Used your exact measurements, perfect. I wish the quality of my lumber was better; paid a lot for twisty lumber. But it still came out great. I don't use a box spring, so I finished the top with 1/2 inch plywood. Thanks again

      @CurtisMadeIt  2 роки тому +3

      @Ben Atwood Awesome. You are welcome. Ben, you are the man. Your frame is spot on just like a professional did it. 1/2" ply is what I recommend so you are right on track. Thanks for taking the time to come back and let us know how your build came out. I really appreciate this a lot my friend. I'll search through the whole stack at Big Orange if I have to to secure me some good pieces of lumber for my builds...its worth it every single time for me. Cheers my brother, be careful. You shouldn’t use plywood because mattress’s need to breathe just add extra boards in between for support.

    • @CurtisMadeIt
      @CurtisMadeIt  Рік тому +5

      @Jarret Gorsh Hi Jarret, thanks for stopping by and contributing here. This is the first time I’ve seen this concern brought up so I took the time to research it myself. While there is some truth to your statement, I think I would only really be worried about this if I lived in a basement or an *extremely* humid environment. By now, many dozens of people from several different countries have built this bed frame with plywood and I hope at least one of them would have contacted me to let me know if this is actually a problem. There are advantages and disadvantages both to using plywood or a box spring. These floating bed frame videos on my channel give you guys a good idea of where to start building your own bed frame. I’m here to help and advise as needed. I appreciate your time and interest in this video my friend. I’ll talk to you again down the road.

As for the drawers, @Dapper Dude asked about these just a couple of days ago. I guess I’ll put a(nother) modified base video together then.
