    I love building furniture myself. But this piece got the best responses from my wife and kids. So much that when I built one for my daughter, the next day when I came home, my wife had went to the store and bought the materials for 2 more beds. 1 for our room and 1 for my son. I did make some changes to my bed by building a Chest at the foot of the bed that contains our television. I also installed a motorized TV mount inside so it can be raised/lowered out of the chest. This project made for a fun weekend project and definitely earned me some brownie points. Thanks for sharing your idea with all of us

      @Joshua Rector Hey Joshua, I love this so much! You are the real hero here. I very much appreciate you taking the time to come back and let me know these builds went so fantastically well for you and your family. I take a lot of pride in protecting all of these toes from those bedposts that are forever part of the history of our lives. I'd sure like to see your builds if you wouldn't mind sharing. I'm on instagram realc_love1 or email curtisalove1 at the five letter g word...I can't type the whole email address or YT will censor my comment and you won't see it here. Cheers brother, here's to more happy building! Let's talk again soon Joshua.

    Awesome build! Just one question, when you sit or put weight on the edge of the bed, does it wanna tip?

    • @CurtisMadeIt
      @CurtisMadeIt  3 роки тому +7

      @Pretocb24 Hey P, thanks a lot for your question. So many people were curious about *just the tip* that I had to address it in a later build. No it definitely does not tip at all. Check my video ‘part 2 - the headboard’ at the twenty five second mark and I’ll show you just how sturdy it is. Thanks for stopping by and leaving your kind words. Talk to you soon.

Seeing a video like this and learning something new is always an awesome experience. I'm glad I was able to help you out my brother. How much did all the wood cost? N is it possible to have Home Depot to cut the wood ?

    • @CurtisMadeIt
      @CurtisMadeIt  2 роки тому +1

      @T Hey T, thanks for your questions. Cost depends on how well you plan the project out, how much you want to do, and the availability of your materials. This 3.0 build as it sits would be about $400-$500 for all of the materials. Then you gonna need the tools to prepare them also. Yes, Home Depot will make the cuts for you, but here in Texas, they charge you per cut. By the time you get done building this bed frame, you are going to want to keep building other stuff, I'm pretty sure of it. If you can, go ahead and get you a circle saw instead of paying for HD to cut them for you. Then you will gain experience in cutting lumber and a tool to do this more in the future. I hope this helps my friend. I appreciate you subscribing to my channel and supporting me. That's what keeps me going. Talk to you soon.

    Hello Curtis! Ken and Mary in South Carolina!! I watched a few videos on floating beds before I found your queen size remake to king size . This past Mother’s day, Mary and I built a king sized floating bed and it is so nice!! I will admit that it is a bit high for her and she uses a stool to get into and out of bed. We even have the lights around the base! We have been waiting for your post for the headboard. You know how life gets busy and we forget stuff. The other night we found that you have the headboard video and we will get it made after the holiday seasons. The bed is So Stable!! Thanks a lot for your straight forward no BS video. Wish I knew how to show you our frame.

      @Kennith Burkett Wow. Mr. Ken and Ms. Mary 🤝 I'm so glad you stopped by, I've been waiting to hear from you! Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I had to take time to craft a reply that I hoped to be one shred of awesome that your original comment is. Just for clarity, the queen size was my first ever YT video. I just recently posted the King size this summer and the headboard for that one a couple weekends ago. I'm so glad to hear that you built one, please let me see! On Instagram I'm C_Love1984 or email Curtisalove1 and send it to gmail.com(I can't type the actual email address or YT will censor the comment and you won't see it). I'm not the best builder or video editor, but my floating bed frame videos offer at least one way you can build yours. I always encourage people to reach out to me for help or guidance. The height is easily adjusted, especially if you aren't interested in the storage underneath. I genuinely appreciate your very thoughtful comment and wonderful compliments. Please reach out to me. Also, consider subscribing to my channel and clicking on the bell. This will notify you when I post a video(about once a month). Thanks so, so much for your time. Talk to you soon.

    Curtis, I do not want to use a box spring with the Mattress, what modification should I ADD or REMOVE?

    • @CurtisMadeIt
      @CurtisMadeIt  3 місяці тому

      @michaelpelegrin8970 Hey, good morning Michael, thanks for stopping by. To support your mattress, you are either going to need plywood with holes drilled in it or cedar fence pickets spaced slightly apart. The holes or spacing allows the mattress to ‘breathe’…this issue(mattress being able to breathe) was brought up to me by a viewer and not something I had previously considered, but it does seem to make sense and feels right so this is what I recommend in the absence of a box spring. I hope this helps. You have any other questions? Thanks for your time and support here, I mean it 🤝

    In the original queen video, you say to use 2x6 inch boards for both the frame and the base, but in this updated base layout, you use 2x8 inch boards. Is accurate? The frame is 6 and the base is 8, making the total height 16 in with the 2x4s?

    • @CurtisMadeIt
      @CurtisMadeIt  Рік тому

      @thethingisawesome13 Hey Avery, some of this is correct, yes. I was improvising on this 3.0 build…I didn’t want to go purchase more items so I used what I had on hand at the time. You can make the base out of whatever you want to…2x6, 2x8, 2x10, or 2x12…keep in mind they don’t *actually* measure 2x6, that one is actually 1.5”x 5.5”, 2x8 is 1.5” x 7.5”, 2x10 is 1.5” x 9 1/4”, and 2x12 measures 1.5” x 11 1/4”. Stick with 2x6’s for the frame. I hope this helps and makes sense. I’m on Instagram realc_love1 if you’d like to reach me there. I apologize for the confusion but thank you for your time and support. 🤝 stay blessed my friend.

    How can I view the end of your video without seeing the suggested other videos. I'm a visual learner and seeing the dimensions image would greatly help me figure out how this frame is built. However at the end of the video, it's covered up by those hyperlinked videos. Can you upload your new Instagram socials along with the image from this video? • @CurtisMadeIt
      @CurtisMadeIt  2 роки тому +1

      @Joseph Romero Man, you are ambitious and active today! Your kids will be thrilled! Use the 1x just because it was fun...didn't need the extra weight, gives me a *tiny* bit more space down the middle for storage, just wanted to. No real reason at all to be honest. Thanks for your awesome question here, I appreciate it. Talk to you again down the road Joseph.

    • @CurtisMadeIt
      @CurtisMadeIt  Рік тому

      @Maddison Greenland Hey Maddison, not a stupid question at all…literally hundreds of people have asked this. You either need a box spring or plywood to support the mattress if you are going to build this bed frame. I hope this helps. Be careful my friend. I appreciate your time and support.

      @Robert Ha Hey Robert, thanks for your question. With my current setup, the deck of my mattress is 31” off of the floor...that’s a 2x8, a 2x6, a 4 inch box spring, and a 14” mattress. Thanks for looking and talk to you soon.

      @CurtisMadeIt  Рік тому

      @James Hunt Hey James, thanks for your question. Reach me on instagram realc_love1 and I'll help you out. This queen 3.0 is my personal build...I was kinda of winging it with the 2x4's on top of the 2x8's because I didn't want to go back to get more lumber at the time. If you are going to build this, I'd just recommend going with 2x10's for your base and stay with the 2x6's for the frame. Can I help you any more at all? Thanks for your time and support, I mean it 🤝.

    So what about the instructions about when you move how to take it apart and how to tell the movers how to move it

    • @CurtisMadeIt
      @CurtisMadeIt  4 місяці тому

      @user-cg9oy4es8v Hey, good morning Timothy, thanks for stopping by. I left the disassembly and moving part out so that you would come by here and talk to me today. Actually, I didn’t really think that far ahead. No way I could have *ever* imagined, anticipated, or hoped for these floating bed frame videos to get millions of views like they have(3.6MM 05.25.2024). At the time of this 3.0 build, I was trying to save money and clear up some space in my tiny apartment by using materials I already had on hand. When I move, I personally will completely disassemble this bed frame and keep all the pieces. When I get to where I’m going, I’ll cannibalize this 3.0 in to a final version for myself. I’ve learned that these videos act as a good basis to start from…not everyone builds them exactly as they are shown here. I’d recommend a 2x8 for the base in this case instead of building it as it is in the video(2x6 and 2x4 laying flat stacked on top). Take the time to label every single component and orientation in an area that won’t be shown when the frame is assembled so when you do move, you can either break it down all the way or just in to three large components(base assembly, frame assembly, and the headboard{you are gonna need 4 pretty strong hands to move these three pieces}). Make sure to hit the same holes when you re-assemble. I appreciate your time and support here, thank you for your great question. Apologies for the length but I hope this helps. I’m here if you need anything else my friend 🤝

      @CurtisMadeIt  2 роки тому +1

      @Greg Frank Hey Greg, thanks for your question. Absolutely no squeaking at all…admittedly, I am the *only* person that ever sleeps on here, so it’s not like it has been thoroughly tested and abused, but I’m telling you my man, it is rock solid. If you take the time to put it together correctly, I don’t think it will ever squeak. I hope this helps. Thanks for your time and interest and I hope to talk to you again soon.

      @Arron Arnold Hey Arron, thanks for your interest. This is my personal queen size bed frame so your style and preference may be a little different. This base is the equivalent of a 2x10 on edge with a 1x10 running down the middle as a divider for the bin storage area. I think I may have slightly modified the dimensions from the original build so make sure to check the 'videos' section on my channel for all three queen size floating bed frame videos. Awesome build man, I'm here for the headboard but I've always liked the floating bed look too. Do you think you could keep the floating bed style with lift storage underneath? I just bought the lift arms from Rockler.

    • @CurtisMadeIt
      @CurtisMadeIt  3 роки тому +1

      @Eric Stanley Hey Eric, thanks for your compliment and question. I sure would like to and did consider this when I upgraded my base to include storage (video: ‘Floating Bed Frame 3.0’), but I went with what I considered to be a more simple design that would be easier to reproduce from a UA-cam video. I think the lift storage might be a little intimidating for some builders. I’ve seen UA-cam videos with the lift storage integrated, so I’m sure you could find one that will work for you. I’ll be making the king size and the full size later this year so I might look in to these lift arms for either of those designs. I appreciate your time.

    I know you been wondering and from your comments, you never hear back; I made the twin version of this 3.0 design. I added 5.5 inches (80.5") for the headboard and used pocket screws for the top half. I still need to make the headboard. With a 19" base, and 10" overhang, yes, the twin still isn't stable enough. Granted it took a 170lbs tip it, but, I added 4 legs to the corners around the base (1.5" away from the base) and now it's fine. It's a bummer from far away, you can see the legs and it detracts from the floating look a bit, but up close, still get the illusion. Thank you!

      @Devin Parker Hey Devin, thanks for your question and interest, happy new year 2023. I build the bases for my floating bed frames as small as I comfortably can to make sure it is hidden but also so that the bed frame is solid and won’t tip over. I’ve gotten more than a 100 requests for the twin size at this point but haven’t built one yet because of the dimensions. @isleif76 Hi Isleif, thanks for your question...this is a good one. I very much appreciate your compliments support...I've poured a lot in to these floating bed frames and my UA-cam channel overall, thank you, thank you. This queen 3.0 is my personal bed frame that I still sleep on every single night. I don't believe there to be a need for any padding at all. With the storage doors open, the ones on the left and right rest against the back shelf uprights and the one in the middle rests against the boards running side to side on the back of the headboard. Also in the video, I put magnets on the doors on the left and right side so they don't flop back closed or rattle at all. I hope this helps. Again, I very much appreciate your time and reassurance that what I am doing here is the right thing. Come back and talk to me again down the road.

      @CurtisMadeIt  Рік тому

      @crystalgrimaldo4507 Hey Crystal, thanks so much and thanks for your question.
      Build your base out of 2x6, 2x8, 2x10, or 2x12 as desired. Use three deckmate 3” screws at each wood junction. I’ve upgraded to some corner brackets that are cheaper, just as legit, and easier to use than the strong ties that you use to secure the base to the frame. Either way, I’d recommend 4 of those for your base/frame. Reach me on Instagram realc_love1 and I’ll send you a link. Anything else I can help you with? Be careful on your build.

    • @CurtisMadeIt
      @CurtisMadeIt  2 роки тому

      @J Ex Hello J, thanks for stopping by and asking your question. Answer: bold of you to assume I cut the frame side boards at 77” instead of 78.5”. …Originally, I built it with 77” sides but have since modified it so all the joists are the same length and the sides are 78.5” now. This allows me flexibility when someone wants to add a headboard, it’s an easy modification by just adding 5.5”…that is the thickness of a 2x6 for a total of 84”. I hope this helps. I appreciate your support my friend and look forward to talking with you again.

    What size bed are the measurements made for and do you still need a box spring one you put the mattress back on the bed frame?

    • @CurtisMadeIt
      @CurtisMadeIt  3 роки тому

      @Elise Owens Hey Elise, thanks for your questions. This bed frame is made for a queen size(I have *all* the other sizes too) and yes, I have a 4” box spring under the mattress. Plywood will work in the absence of a box spring. I hope this helps and I appreciate you stopping by. Talk to you soon.

      @BaSiC_puffshD Hey B, thanks for your question. No, I don’t think so. A full size measures 54” x 75”, that is 137.16cm x 190.5cm. This build is for a queen size which measures 60” x 80”, again, for reference, that is 152.4cm x 203.2cm. I hope this helps.

      @Micheal A Cuevas Hey Micheal, thanks for your question. I think all in, I was about $400…that’s lumber, lights, fasteners, locks, hinges, bins for storage…everything. Lumber has gone up since I built this though. I hope that helps. Talk to you again down the road my friend.

      @Vincent Lucente Hey Vincent, thanks for your question. This one is for a USA queen size. I’ve got CAD blueprints available for Cali, king, queen, and full though. I think the twin is too long and narrow to build a floating bed frame like this…you would either see the base or it would tip from side to side. I hope this helps. How do you make a twin xl floating bed frame

    • @CurtisMadeIt
      @CurtisMadeIt  Рік тому

      @Dark Edgelord Hey Dark, I personally haven’t built a twin xl and have recommended against it. That’s a very long and narrow bed frame and would tip over from side to side if you tried to conceal the base like I do in the floating bed frames shown on this channel. A similar style bed frame could be built for a twin xl, but you would see the base for sure. I’ll be glad to help you any further if I can. Thanks for your time and support. Be blessed 🙏

      @@CurtisMadeIt so I can't make one for my bed

    • @CurtisMadeIt
      @CurtisMadeIt  Рік тому

      @Dark Edgelord I wouldn’t recommend building one with a concealed base, no. That base will be too narrow and your bed frame will tip from side to side. If you want to make the base larger…almost the same size as the frame…it would be more stable but you would be able to see the base and it wouldn’t look like it’s ‘floating’ like the ones on this channel.
