  • The ASRock RX 5700 XT Taichi X OC+ video card is one of the most expensive versions of the Navi GPU. We're testing it vs. Sapphire Nitro, Gigabyte Gaming OC, XFX THICC, & more.
    Ad: Buy Thermaltake's C360 Kit on Amazon (geni.us/LWNv5AW)
    The ASRock RX 5700 XT Taichi might be listed on Amazon at some point: geni.us/NnBRx
    Find the Sapphire RX 5700 XT Nitro+ on Amazon: geni.us/Wybi
    Or Gigabyte's 5700 XT Gaming OC on Amazon (for a lower price): geni.us/4qEqz5r
    ASRock's RX 5700 XT Taichi X OC+ uses a triple-fan solution for the GPU, with a price that puts it distant even from the Sapphire Nitro+ OC and MSI Evoke OC. Regardless, the list of tested AMD RX 5700 XT graphics cards is now growing, and we have data for the reference card, Gigabyte Gaming OC, MSI Evoke OC, ASRock Taichi, Sapphire Pulse, and a couple more coming. The battle for best RX 5700 XT is still raging on, and with the prices we're seeing, it's going to boil-down mostly to categories of "good enough" at a given price.

      I'm waiting for you to do two things:
      1) Destroy XFX with a review of the newest THICC card
      2) create a standardized TDP Testing system so that we as consumers can goddamn finally figure out which Processors actually use less power and or power more efficiently because it's so bloody annoying that either AMD or Intel use the same standards.

    Hey there. I own an AMD RX 5700 XT, the Sapphire Pulse more precisely, my first AMD card after a period of nvidia ownership. However, I've been having a lot of problems with it (BSODs and blackouts mostly), in which i initially thought it was driver related. However, it looks like it was a problem related to the PCI-E riser, which is gen 3.0, but the whole system was running on 4.0. After some research, the riser was indeed a cause of issues, and in order to solve these I simply forced my motherboard to run on PCI 3.0 (Gigabyte X570 ITX here, which has such option). Many other people might be having the same problems, and blaming AMD for it (like i initially did :D), but in fact it's an issue related to outdated PCI-E risers. Im using a compact case (FTZ01-E), so I have to keep using the riser. I was lucky the Gigabyte MB allowed for a PCI Gen change in the bios, otherwise i'd be stuck with this. Maybe you'll find this piece of information useful to use in one of your videos in the future. Or not :D.
    Eitherway, the issues are gone and the whole system is stable now. It's a pitty AMD are lacking on tech support for these kind of diagnostics, as I've only seen one of their tech support personnel answer to a client about this potential riser issue. Their adrenaline website (or the absence of it) could also use an overhaul in which patch and driver updates/news would be more easily communicated with the community, sort of what the Geforce Experience has.

    • @lgmtk
      @lgmtk 5 років тому +2

      Same in Israel, this is why you need to convert what Steve says about price to percentages and to your currency (explanation for those who don't follow).
      E.g if card1 costs $400 (for sake of example) and Steve says card2 costs $440, that's a 10% increase in price - for better or for worse.
      If then card1 costs $600 (euro converted) in your country and card2 costs $660, then it is fine - you can't really escape your country's taxes and/or import fees.
      BUT if card2 costs $680 then you can say it costs "more than it should".
      I have learned long ago that unless you can get a good price suddenly in Amazon or in a local retail, you will HAVE to accept this price % difference, otherwise you will never buy a new card because they will all seem "overpriced".

    • @lgmtk

      @Keretizein x Exactly.
      The 2070S is ~10% more expensive where I live so might as well go for 5700XT.
      Then again, some 1080tis go for same price as 5700XT here so maybe getting that would be smarter, but I really don't want to buy a used card.

      @Zwenk Wiel I searched the internet for an average percentage of tax on electronics and goods in the USA and found a list that shows an average of about 7% tax. (normally between 2,9% and 7,25% depending on the state) The price of the taichi 5700xt with 7% tax included is $ 513,- Converted to Euro's: € 465,- The true difference in price between the USA and the Netherlands in this case is $ 108,- and I still think this is quite a lot actually, hahaha ;)

    Such a strange dilemma right now, for those of us interested in getting a new GPU.
    You can buy a 5700XT card. You can purchase one of those new 20 Series SUPER cards.
    But also being mindful, that Nvidia is set to go onto 7nm, and release their new GPUs by the 2nd quarter of next year. Then there's BIG NAVI looming in the distance. While Intel is ALSO about to be venturing into the GPU market as well...

      My local Micro Center has Strix 5700 xt OC for $20 cheaper than this card. Buildzoid's PCB review of he ASUS card was very positive. I am waiting to see a full and thorough review now. It will most likely run very cool, maybe even the coolest while it maintains the other typical 5700 xt performance levels.
      All in all, an ASUS Strix for $20 more than some other cards, having better component parts and running cooler than most cards, that $20 might not matter too much.Though I figure many gamers have a tendency to stick to a build brand that they have or prefer when it comes down to a $20 +/- cost difference. $40 or $60 off of someone's preference can be a deal breaker. To each his own my friend.

    On user benchmarks website it has the 5700xt taichi as #4 performance wise. #1 is gigabyte gv gaming oc at 117%; #2 is power cooler red devil at 115%; #3 is XFX Thicc III ultra at 115%; #4 is Asroch Taichi at 114%. the highest benchmark for the 2070 super is 123% with a lot of the non overclocked benchmarks around 114%. These are the only 4 that are high up there in benchmarks are worth it in my eyes as #5 and #6 are both the sapphires at 110% and 107%. I compare benchmarks with some youtubers and in games like rdr2 and gta V i keep up with the 2070 super with the asrock taichi. If you compare this with the thermals it may just be one of the best cards, it was just expensive at release but the price is defiantly going down.

    IMO, I think it's great that ASRock somewhat over engineered this thing rather than tried to cut corners to keep pricing and costs down. I do think they over did it a little but better that than a flagship design that performs like an entry level model and ruins their shiny new rep in the GPU market. It's got to be tough breaking into an already saturated market. With the last (and their first) wave of GPUs they were panned for high noise levels and weak/inadequate cooling. I imagine it's a fine line between adequate/profitable and overbuilt/expensive when it comes to cooling solutions. It looks like they have not quite found the sweet spot yet. I do like what I see, learning from feedback and trying to do better. They overshot with the Taichi but given pricing will come down and how well this GPU performs it could still be a great option when priced better.
    As it stands it will likely only appeal to people who are willing to pay a premium for the aesthetics. IMO it's not all that unrealistic with the cost of an aftermarket GPU cooler (water or air) costing significantly more than the delta in price between this and more competitively priced GPUs. I am a huge fan of how well the GPU design compliments the X570 Taichi motherboard design. What this GPU does is allow even a relative novice PC builder to put together a system that looks custom built with minimal effort and know how. I would not be surprised to see the likes of newegg and amazon pushing bundles with this and the X570 Taichi.
    Great review Steve.

      I know it's a heavy beast, but it's very structurally rigid and sagging isn't particularly bad. I'm really sure the various round/oval/square/rectangular/teardrop shaped pins arranged in grid/staggard "Pin Fin" heatsink has existed back to around the time of the steam engine, maybe earlier on some wood stoves. Pin Fin heat exchangers are nothing new, the machining process to make them, that manufacturing process may be patented (there is more than one way to forge/cast or extrude&cut a pin-fin, lol).

    I'd love to see a 5700 XT with binned, OC'd, heavily cooled memory. Dreaming of HBM2, but the fact that the architecture design has compatibility for it doesn't mean it could be implemented on a non-silicon level, which means Navi could never run on HBM. Future RDNA cards - who knows, probably ones more compute-oriented. Either way, this kind of customization is nowhere to be found on today's market. And to think we used to have custom memory configs, custom dual-GPU solutions, etc., all from card vendors. The word "card" means less and less in this industry, it's all about the GPU these days.

They go oddly half way on the gamer look, then make only one of the fans have lights on it instead of all 3. ASrock needs to fire someone, because everyone over there had different things in mind when making this GPU. Could have been a solid choice if it were cheaper, or they had gone for a higher quality build. Then just pick an aesthetic and stick with it. Go gamer look or don't. Go RGB or don't.

      How much is the reference card being price there and at your country?

      If it is listed higher than MSRP then...you have no choice and these are the prices set in your country.

    • @evilSapphie
      @evilSapphie 5 років тому

      For context, reference is £350 and you can get the Red Dragon for £390. £505 is a 44% markup. You would have to be mad to pay a premium that high over reference for a 5700XT, no matter how much better the cooler is, because that 44% is going to translate, as Steve has continually stated, to no more than a 2~2.5% increase in frames. Add to that the fact that the 2070 super starts at around £490 and that's just another nail in the coffin. And stock is not an issue for the 5700 series over here, so it is just hilariously overpriced.

    • @lgmtk
      @lgmtk 5 років тому

      @@evilSapphie If EVERYTHING is overpriced where you live then it is another issue.
      In Israel, a custom cooled 5700xt goes for £512, and a 2070 super goes for £606.
      Israel has a 17% tax and some import fees, so it is not like the specific retail I chose has an insane markup - this is just how it is here.
      So I compare in this example the 5700xt vs the 2070s and in my case, it is better to buy the 5700xt.
      This is why I mentioned you should go for the % difference in price and not necessarily in performance - the moment you factor in each country's tax and import fees, the % in price to performance argument goes out the window and you will be stuck buying low-med cards that might seem cheap but are priced as high-end cards.
      Bottom line - where I live, EVERYTHING has some markup because of tax and import fees - it is inescapable.

  • @Kepe
    @Kepe 5 років тому +1

    So how does it perform? It has higher clocks than any other 5700 XT. Would've been nice to know how it performs compared to a cheap 2070 Super for example. Also, it apparently has six display out ports. Could've been mentioned, since you are actually getting something extra for the extra money. I know you're sick and tired of reviewing 5700 XTs, but this seemed a bit on the lazier side compared to your other reviews.

    • @dankkh
      @dankkh 5 років тому +1

      He addresses this at the end of this video. The reason why he's not showing any performance benchmarks compared to other cards is because all 5700 XT models are pretty much identical, performance-wise. This particular card may have the highest clock speed out of all of them, but going above 2GHz yields pretty much no benefit for the Navi cards.
      If you want a comparison to the 2070 Super, just find a different 5700 XT on any other review site, and look at the comparison there. Then buy whichever 5700 XT has the best cooling and simply overclock/undervolt to your heart's content.

    • @xasxas256
      @xasxas256 5 років тому +1

      I'm also really disappointed that the six display outputs wasn't mentioned. This is one of the few (only?) mid to high end cards on the market with 6 display outputs, it is a real point of difference. Sapphire used to have "Flex" model cards with extra display outputs which were significantly more expensive than their other models but it has been a long time since I've seen a graphics card with 6 display outputs. Also none of the current NVIDIA line up even counting customer boards seems to have more than 4 display outputs. Finally the Asrock page for this card it's listed in third place as one the features after "Taichi Triple Fans" and "3D Metal Backplate" so I don't know how it was missed because it is plain to see on the card.
