    I can’t help but wonder how that recessed joist bay will perform under the weight of that cast iron tub filled with water.
    - 280-400 lbs - Cast iron tub
    - 267 lbs - water 32gal x 8.33
    - 220 lbs - one adult male (more if married and frisky)
    - Potenial of 887+ lbs in 12.5 sq feet = 71lbs per square foot (assuming the miss’s doesn’t join him).
    - Building code requires live load of 40lbs per square foot - the math for that reduced bay just doesn’t compute for me -
    I guess Just trust TOH … they’ve been doing this a long time.

    Raising the ceiling was short-sighted and the worst example of form over function. Getting that couple of inches of ceiling space means that they had to go with a completely proprietary system that will make it next to impossible for the next plumber 5 years later to fix leaks or even clean out the drain because of the extreme angle of the drain and now they took away access from the overflow. Anybody who has every snaked a bathtub knows that you take out the overflow and put the snake through there because it's usually straight down to the trap but not in this case.
    Kudos to the plumber for finding a solution but this will definitely come back and bite the homeowner in the butt later when they have to cut the fancy ceiling just to get a hairball out or fix a leak.

    • @darrylf7538
      @darrylf7538 3 роки тому

      Are you claiming a snake won't make it past the one 90 on the overflow but it will make it through a p-trap? Come on now.

    • @Arieeeee
      @Arieeeee 3 роки тому +1

       @Darryl F Did you watch the video? In a traditional tub and plumbing you can open up the overflow on top of the tub and stick the snake straight down where it will flex and go through the P trap and after that, as far as your imagination and skill will take it. It's so easy that you barely need to twist the snake. In this case, the overflow is next to useless. Whether you go through the overflow or the drain itself, you have to go through not one, but 2 90's before going down to the P trap. If you think that's easy in a cramped bathroom with a fancy bathtub that you can't scratch then you must be the best plumber I've met.

    • @darrylf7538
      @darrylf7538 3 роки тому

      @@Arieeeee there's one 90 there. Not 2. When you snake a lav drain there's a 50/50 chance you need to get the snake past the waste arm 90 after the trap. The ty heading down is a 90. How can you say a snake won't make it past 1 90 on that overflow. And you weren't counting the normal overflow 90 in a regular situation because you said it's straight down to the trap, which is not.

    • @darrylf7538

  • @Krionix81

    Looking from UE (east EU) perspective this celling will transfer all the noises from the floor above. Steps, farts, music, even running water down the drain - literally everything. How we do that here: all the walls out of sort of bricks. We pour a thick reinforced concrete slab for the 2nd floor, then 5cm EPS (here you can put all the pipes, cables etc), thin 7cm "bubble" type of weak concreate as a main underfloor and then moisture keep away foil, shock-absorbing and soundproofing layer (5-7mm) and than laminate floor or just real wood glued to this last concrete layer. You cant hear any steps, farts, music actually (between flors). Floor will never, erver sink, bend, squeak. Some noise might be transfered via the structure wall, just that. So a good home should give us some privacy right? Your frame 2x4 style builds do not provide any privacy to me. On many remodel situations there is even no rock wool between the drywalls, just air cavity. LOL!

    As i watch the show being broadcast 07-03-2021 at 8:45 am CDT, i have to ask: why on a show about quality and most modern products, do they still do substandard concrete work? I have been in construction since 1980 and even back then the better concrete contractors would tell you wire mesh was not good. Rebar is far superior. And no matter what you use, do not lay it on bottom and pour. You need supports to keep it centered in the slab or you may as well not use it. Laying the steel on bottom and pulling it up with a rake does almost no good. As you walk around during the pour it gets pushed right back to the bottom.
