I've often struggled with the sequence of the components to be installed. What comes first, and so forth. But this clip lays it out in order. I now have the ideas set in my mind to lay out the parts, then start assembling. Great job on the editing.
Thanks for sharing your videos I'm doing bath tub installation I needed to what used in the drain pipe going to the p trap marvel adapter Thanks now I can the plumbing Thanks Josh 😊
I just ran onto your video, I'm a recent Widdow and driving the bus by myself. I like to find a video, before I hire someone cause, help is out there but some try to grease a single women for every $, charge you for what you don't need, and milk a job for 4 hours when it really took 1 hour. Your video answered all my questions and now I know exactly what the plumber needs to do. Excellent video. Thank you young man. Not all contractors are bad but it only takes 1 for you to keep your gaurd up.
I was looking for a way to transition from the polypropylene bathtub drain pipe to the PVC pipe/P trap and couldn't find anything at the big box stores or here on YT until I came across this video. I'll buy the Marvel Adapter tomorrow. Thanks!
FYI ( and not that I'm a plumber)...if you are installing a foot operated drain (instead of that shithook linkage operated drain) you will find out like I did that there are NO slip joints, and that Miracle Joint won't fit around 11/2" pipe, so all the connections have to be cemented.
I'm always amazed at how thin/cheap a store-bought drain/overflow setup feels and struggle to believe it will last many years. I wonder if a $10 mil house would use the same product? Regarding leveling a tub/shower like this... is it safe to assume that there is pitch/slope built into the tub? Any thoughts on using something like 'window semi expansion foam' beneath the tup so that it does not dip or belly over the years?
Pitch is built into the tub. If the tub has it's feet or foam cushion on a perfectly level surface then you won't have to worry about it crushing. Many tubs have been installed incorrectly and lead to the bottom cracking because of lack of support. Most manufacturers will recommend putting a bed of mortar under their shower pans or tubs if the floor isn't perfectly level. Have to check with the manufacturer though. Never use spray foam as a substitute for a mortar bed as the spray foam will crush and be rendered useless.
Haven’t seen any tub shower combo’s in 10mil plus homes as a carpenter here in Jackson Hole Wy. But if I do I swear I’ll come find this comment and let you know.
There is a slope built in but usually you also adjust the bath underneath ó you can mess up the slope if you don't level it well underneath as well. Some have more slope than others too
I read that if you have no access to plumbing after install then its recommended glued joints instead of twist compression fittings as shown here.Is this true?
in my basement i have the shower drain already roughed into the concrete. Do i need to open up a hole in the concrete like you did for this to work? Or can i install without digging up some concrete?
You just leave it open. Typically the dirt comes up to right below the T. I suppose you could place hardware cloth with bricks on top if you were concerned about burrowing rodents, but I have never seen it used as an access point for critters even 50 years after it was originally built.
Just out of curiosity. I'm doing a similar DIY project for my house. Installing a new drain and faucet on my plastic/fiberglass bathtub. The plumbers putty you used in the video is the same one that I bought, but when I was reading the label, it says not to use on plastic. When I researched why, it said it would leave stains on the bathtub. So now I'm not sure what to use. Just curious why you still used it on a fiberglass tub or am I misunderstanding something. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Can that stopper fail and prevent the tub from draining properly? I have mine taken apart and the water still won’t drain. My lever on the overflow is down but only trickling down
@@TheExcellentLaborer I appreciate you getting back to me. I just took apart the overflow and the plug had corroded and broke off. Went to basement and took apart the trap and pushed the plug up and out. It will work until I can get to hardware store. Thanks again
How will you undo that if theres a blockage? It may be easier in the beginning but the minute somone has a problem they then have to cut the pipe and replace it or have two joints to replace it and thats not easy to do without removing at least one end of the whole thing where a join that open can easily be used to acsess a blockage.
Hmmm. I should think that would take a whole video. I was just looking for the diagram of how the whole system is and how it's installed. And he certainly accomplished.

Thank you so much. This video helped us out big time.
I’m so glad I could help! Good luck with your project!!
I have also found that Styrofoam packaging makes for excellent knee pads :)
Thick side up on top due to the angle
Appreciate it the wisdom man how did you get a opening like that for shower drain do you just frame it
Yes, frame it before you pour the concrete. Here is the video of it ua-cam.com/video/Csf7dO4A4IE/v-deo.html

Smashed and subscribed…many thanks!🙏
Where the bottom drain and over flow drain meet does that get glued into the trap with pvc glue?
Good job men
Thank you
Is the P trap 2in or 1.5in ?
Horizontal part of tub drain needs to fit in hole right. Or does it tuck under tub
What do you do with the hole in the slab? Fill it with concrete after installing the tub? Or just leave it open for critters to come in?
I fill it with sand I case you got you get back to the drain! Hope that helps!

Excelente video, thank you very much!
Thank you!
Great content, bro. Thank you
Thank you Brandon!
Love your videos man
Thank you so much!
My bathtub doesn't even come with a overflow hole. Could I drill one in?

You can use silicone 👍🏽 im a plumber and what i use on the daily.
Always use what the manufacturer recommends, but this is a fiberglass tub, not plastic. The drain flange may stain but not the tub, IMO.
I'm there too. But mine is an old steel tub . I was just wondering if the putty damages the pvc.
Thank you ❤❤
You’re welcome!
It's always important to have an "oerverflow"!!.....
Excellent
Thank you!
The tub I bought suggested a bed of mortar, but has those same 2 legs yours has. Should I be using mortar under it?????
Hey James! I usually don't use mortar. If I was to, I would use thinset. Hope that helps!
Thnx bro !
Can that stopper fail and prevent the tub from draining properly? I have mine taken apart and the water still won’t drain. My lever on the overflow is down but only trickling down
If the stopper is out then it’s not that. Sounds like hair stuck in the drain. Use a snake and unclog it
@@TheExcellentLaborer I appreciate you getting back to me. I just took apart the overflow and the plug had corroded and broke off. Went to basement and took apart the trap and pushed the plug up and out. It will work until I can get to hardware store. Thanks again
No problem!
I would rather use solid pvc that is glued together as one solid piece.
I thought the same. Bro

Would you rather have a tile shower or fiberglass shower?
shower bud. all the way
nice vids man. keep em coming
Thanks! Will do!!
Nice!
Fibre glass. Priceless surprise entrance. Great video Josh. Thank you
👍
Dood that kit is crap it’s so cheap how could you use this
Under budget 😂
Installing a tub shower in new construction is a joke. Anyone could do that. Show us how to do it in a renovation with no access to the plumbing wall.
Also needs an access panel if slip joint is installed 😂
