Just what I was looking for I have a Honda GC 160 with no throttle plate and I wanted to know how to hook up the throttle-I will your use your way! Thanks Mike
Did you drill a hole or a notch in the governor lever to accommodate the throttle cable spring? And it is clear path to go under the carburetor with throttle cable spring set up?
So I just want a little clarity in my understanding of how to do this My Honda GC160 is set up originally with a linkage and spring going from the governor lever to the butterfly That stays the same…correct? So I will make up the throttle cable with the spring as shown in your video I drilled a hole for the clamp where you said So thats all set Now I am going to fish through the throttle cable spring under the carburetor and hook it to the governor lever where it already has a hole by the existing linkage and spring Thanks
Can I get your email so I can send photos for you to look at to make sure I set up the throttle cable correctly I told my friend I would look at his go kart and then my neighbor offered me the Honda GC 160 engine to replace the old Tecumseh which had a cracked case Trial and error went on for about 2 weeks or more I tried to make this engine work and could not get it to idle low enough and not engage the clutch So hopefully this will work
This was pretty much the exact way I did the throttle on our minibike, however, now it seem like the governor is sticking wide open, I can't seem to figure it out,I've even tried a spring to pull the governor to the idle, any thoughts?
Check your throttle link and spring. You might have the little spring that wraps around the throttle link on incorrect. If you do it wrong, when the throttle is opened, the spring can jam up the link and spring against the butterfly on the carb and make it stick open, unable to move. I used to make the same mistake! I'll bet that's what is happening! Let me know if that helps!
Really need help what is the shaft detentions I getting this same moter tomorrow and I need to know the diameter of the shaft so I can get a clutch for it
It depends. Some of them are 3/4" crankshaft, others are a stubby 7/8". Only the 3/4" crankshafts can accommodate a clutch. Keep this in mind when you get a motor.
@Restless Ridge Farm it sounds like you have the "stubby" crankshaft GC160. Your crankshaft is probably short, and 7/8" diameter with a keyway. You can't use that engine for a centrifugal clutch. You need a GC160 with a 3/4" diameter crankshaft with a keyway. The crankshaft will be longer. The clutches you buy will slide onto the keyway on the crankshaft and sometimes will have set screws to secure it to the shaft. You will either have to change the crankshaft on your engine to the correct size or find a better engine.
@nicos9937 yes you need to back the idle speed screw out a bit until it idles properly. Do a Google image search to determine which screw this is. Hope this helps!
@@nicos9937 I literally robbed that green spring from a dishwasher I had torn apart and saved it. You can buy springs like it at Lowe's or Home Depot. Harbor Freight sells assortments of springs. @pbrstreetgng79 gotcha and so you know how long that spring is? I have one on mine right now but I think it's just a little bit too long cause the tension is kinda loose
@@bomblifenewzealand looking at the engine from behind the air filter, the idle speed screw is located on the right side of the carb adjacent to the throttle shaft. It should be a Phillips screw with a spring on the shaft of the screw. It will be higher on the carb than any other screw you see. It is difficult to get in there to adjust it. I have no idea why Honda made it so difficult to access. Turn the screw in to increase the idle speed. Back the screw out to lower the idle speed. Hope this helps!

What type of switch for the kill switch cuz i have a mini bike 1 with a ground wire and a connector
@@TLBN_J14000BLK I use Rotary part # 31-7728 kill switches. It's a simple toggle switch, but you can mount it almost anywhere. Hope this helps!
Do you leave the shorter governor spring and rod connected to butterfly?
Yes I leave it connected. If you take it off, you run the risking of over-revving the engine, and you could destroy it.
I got one, I am building a motorized mountain bike.
I tried this but engine idles really high, is there a bolt I can adjust to reduce the rpm of the idle?

Ay boss, any recommendation on a clutch for these to use on the kart? I'm having a hard time finding a 7/8 bore clutch for this.
Sounds like you have an engine which has the little stubby crankshaft. Those engines are used on power washers. You can't put a clutch on those.
