My daughter bought me every copy of the Horror books a couple years ago for Christmas. Spending so much time coloring the gore actually started giving me nightmares so I had to throw them all out. I’m glad to see how the pages can look once colored. Your work is absolutely beautiful!

Loved seeing the evolution of your style and also appreciated you noting what you like about your pages, especially your early ones. It’s so easy to be hard on ourselves when looking at our own pages. Your work is so impressive and many of us follow your tutorials, so it’s nice to see we all start with simple pages and there’s still something to appreciate about those. Thanks for sharing these.

We learn each time we put colour to paper but the joy is the most important part ❤️

Hi Karen! Don’t feel too bad: I have 35(!) books I’ve not yet colored in. 🤷‍♀️….As you said, not much time, eh? Life is Busy! But no complaints….although I have QUITE a collection of books, hey there’s worse addictions! 😄 This year for me is my “Low-Buy” year(yeah….right, DawnMarie! What, I’ve already purchased 15+ just in January! )….but I MUST FINISH AT LEAST ONE. So, kudos for ACTUALLY finishing a book! Awesome coloring as always, so much skill and technique. Oh my gosh Karen! I adore even your first attempts of coloring! You're just so gifted for this🥰🤩
You mentioned a fixative for pencils? Does it keep your finished pages from smudging? If so, what do you use? I desperately need to do that. I've noticed that some of my finished pages have smudged over to the next page 🤦🏼‍♀️😬... Hopefully it will erase and I can still do those ones. 😆
Thank you for sharing all your STUNNING WORK! I'M IN LOVE with them ALL! LOL 🥰💜🤩

    • @MyColourfulCountryLife
      @MyColourfulCountryLife  Рік тому +2

Thank you so much. Yes it's not completely foolproof but fixative definitely helps. I use Micador (Australian Brand) workable fixative matte. If you make sure to find one that says workable that way you can spray it as you go if needed and keep colouring. Matte because the other option is glossy and I prefer the matte look. I'm not sure if you can purchase the brand I use where you are, but there are some links in my Amazon stores to other brands 😁

I tend to tear apart my books that are single sided and soft cover, so I have no idea how many books I have anymore. I do that so that I can color the same picture multiple times, especially since sometimes I like to try other color combos. When I first started coloring I started with Selina Fenech books and I think I almost have all of them except for all of the faedorable ones and then a couple random others. I also have a florals coloring book from Amazon, a horror one from Francois Gautier, 2 Hannah Lynn books, a Maria Trolle book, 4 Hanna Karlzon books and 3 Cris Ortega books, however my Hannah Lynn and Cris Ortega books are all PDFs. I have a binder for all of my books I've torn up and my PDFs and I think one of them is mostly PDFs because I have an awful lot of those since I can print them on whatever paper I want. The only books I haven't ripped up are my Maria Trolle and Hanna Karlzon ones 😅. I'm actually thinking of expanding my collection of books I keep as books because sometimes I don't want to have to print what I want to color and fight with my printer bc it hates me for some reason lol. Johanna Basford and Kerby Rosanes are probaby the main two I've been looking at for that.
I love your completed pages, your coloring is always so beautiful. I struggle the most with backgrounds and choosing colors. I have a background in art but with coloring pages I tend to get carried away sometimes and pick a color or two that just doesn't go. I know the whole point is for it to be more relaxing but I really like to put more thought into it and make it something pretty that I want to show others. I'll have to work on that lol.

Hi Karen, it is a great pleasure to watch your colouring journey that is not very long but has evolved so amazingly! I can’t believe that you started with those heavy handed and dark coloured works. Then your colour choice changed all of sudden! It reminded me of Van Gogh’s transition from dark heavy colours to bright colours later. How did you progressed to your current admiring colour choice and switched to brighter colour and start to add layering and blending skills all of sudden? Your early works and current ones do not look like to be coloured by one person!

Amazing video, so good to see where you started to where ya at now with ya colouring. I am slightly obsessed with Kerby as ya prob realised over last year or so. I’ve also got all his books but mainly only coloured WWW, it was your Apple page that got me started on my colouring journey in May 2021, I’ve set myself a challenge to complete WWW for New Years Eve, so need to colour 5 pages a month. Also I’ve challenged myself to colour 1 page from 3 of his books I haven’t coloured in yet. So I’m really looking forward to see you colouring in his other books. My favourite page outa all his books is Madussa, now although it’s my favourite I’ve still not coloured it, so as a request would you colour this page as a tutorial. Your amazing n very very talented colourist. I can already tell I’ve massively improved in my colouring and that’s from watching yaself n a few others and taking on board how yas actually put pencil to paper, it’s help with my anxiety and helps with my pain management as when I’m the colouring zone I’m only thinking about the page and colours. So a very special video you’ve shared today and a Special Thank You for introducing me personally to Colouring and Kerby. Keep your awsome tutorials coming as like many others, we love you and ya Channel xx Cheers Ness xx

Don't you think it's about time you let us know where you purchased the "magic pencils?"
It's nice of you to share your perfect tips, tricks and other tutorials but I still want the "magic pencils". At least the recipe for the fairy dust you surely have.
I am going to watch this video again.
Frame some of these! Said this bossy viewer.

Thank you for sharing your progress over the years in coloring! As far as I can see you were very talented from the beginning. I know you have a huge to-do-coloring-list but I would love to see some more color alongs in the books "Nature Mandalas" and "Circle of Life" from Melpomeni Chatzipanagiotou. I love these books but honestly, they are overwhelming at first sight and there is so much going on there, I would really need your help. 😊

Thank you so much for sharing all these! I would love to see some mini tutorials. Sometimes it can be so frustrating trying to find info on, say burnishing, or when/how/what fixative to use without the info being deep inside long tutorials (being general here, not you specifically!). I have watched your blending tutorial, but I can never get a smooth look….do you go over gradients with a burnishing pencil? Or stump? You mention early on in this video about using fixative….do you use that for all pages? How do you keep it from leaving spots on pages? And….I would love a tutorial on that “white out” effect you use on flower petals. Oh, and on distress inks, could you consider a demo of how you do the clouds ON A PICTURE. I watched that video and it’s easy enough on a rectangle of cardstock, but how exactly do you do an effect like that with a complicated foreground? (so many requests! but you are a great teacher and I love your work!) I really appreciate that you focus on quality over quantity in your collection. I get kind of turned off by people who have HUNDREDS of books because if I was REALLY honest with myself, I could pick out 24 books nd I’d probably never get that many colored in before I die! It’s nice to have options, but at a certain point, it just can be ridiculous. I do have about 20 or so untouched books and at this point, I will leave them alone and continue learning first.

Hi Tracy, thanks for the feedback and I’m definitely one who sometimes ends up hiding the info in long tutorials 😆 So I never use any blending tools, no liquids, no pencils and no stumps unless I show it and state it in a tutorial and I think I’ve done that maybe twice for a certain background effect. But I show it in the video. The only thing I do that you don’t see in the video is spray it with fixative at the end. I did do a tutorial on how to use it but yep it’s buried deep in a video and I couldn’t even tell you which one lol
Getting a smooth look is easier when heavy handed and using wax pencils as in the end they just mush onto the page lol but you need to burnish it completely for that look, so no white paper and no tooth left at all.
I do have quite a few colour alongs that have the cloud background so you can see me apply it directly to a picture, I don’t talk through the process though but it is basically the same as the card stock. Because I burnish my pictures I usually just go straight over the image with the ink… but I don’t recommend that in case you haven’t fully burnished. I will do a video using the masking fluid prior to applying a distress ink background as well.
So that was a long response to basically say yes lol I can do some mini ‘how to’ tutorials 😁
